It was sad to say goodbye, but I had to give Dusya to good people. I hope she’s happy.

Dusya got sick. There was blood on her nostrils and around her mouth. She had incontinence. I took her to the clinic. They ran tests and said it was panleukopenia. I bought the medicine. Treated her for a week. Fed her with a dropper and gave her water the same way. Two weeks later we were already going for walks again.

Kirby, my Kirby-irby-irbs, my bunny thumpers, my Fumps, is under the weather. She twice tested negative for Panleukopenia, she isn't running a fever, and there is no vomiting or diarrhea - though there is definitely nausea and fatigue. We're providing supportive care (antibiotics, anti-nausea meds, b-12 vitamins, and subcutaneous fluids and tube-feeding liquid purees), but it's a horrible game of Wait and See while we track symptoms and look for the slightest change in either direction. She began showing symptoms yesterday morning. We're 36 hours into care with no change, though, perhaps heartbreakingly, this week is the first time we've been able to feel her purr; and when we stroke her, she happy-flexes her toe beans. Did I mention Tails just crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday? Oh, and he was her brother. But while he had a full tail, Kirby has just a nub - she is a Rumpy Riser Manx. One of our foster kittens, five week old Hampter, has an eye that has to be removed URGENTLY. Cross your everythings she can hang in there until her 4pm appt today. She is on 3x daily antibiotics, both oral and ointment, and pain medication. My husband slept on the couch with her so she wouldn't be alone. 😭 No idea what this will cost, but it isn't going to be pretty, not for her nor our budget. But we'll take care of her and Inferno (he also has an infected eye, though his chances of keeping the eye are much higher - about 70%) - and their poor eyes. They are removing the catheter from his urethra at 5. If all goes well, he be coming home tonight at around 8. Benny gave us a heart stopping scare last night. He had been sleeping in his back in this bed and woke up with a start, rolling to get upright. Except something happened and he kept rolling, rolling, fell off the couch and it was like he was paralyzed trying to roll again. I ran over, got down on the floor and put my arms around him, letting him know it was OK and relax! It took a moment for his body to calm down. I kept stroking him to bring him back to reality. He got up and had a few wobbly steps and sat down. I pulled him on my lap and within a few minutes he was normal again. We don't know if he could have had a nightmare and startled awake (it happens), a quick seizure (it's been years since his last), or possibly pulled a muscle in his back (Angie pulled a muscle in her leg once and had a stroke-like reaction). Whatever happened was absolutely terrifying and needless to say, hugging him super close right now and it was a sleepless night on seizure watch. Sometimes our love is what keeps our animals going through their hardest moments.
