Albert Awol

Albert Awol is a skipper on the world famous Jungle Cruise. He is also considered to be ‘the voice of the jungle’ as he presents a radio show, Awol Airwaves, from his office broadcasting across the DBC. On his show, he plays music from the depression era, (Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington etc.), gives news, weather updates and general reminders, passes messages along between fellow skippers and hosts quizzes. He has written a book, Illustrated Guide to Radio Broadcasting, which appears in the Skipper Canteen at Disney World in the secret room for members of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, implying he has membership in the club, though this is not confirmed yet. A photo in his office suggests that he has a wife and daughter and him speaking in Swahili and translating it during his radio broadcast suggests fluency or, at the very least, proficiency in the language.

Awol appears in the Tales from Adventureland series in which he is a member of the Jungle Explorers Society and owns a talking cockatiel named Hoku. He is the childhood friend of Ned Lostmore, AKA Shrunken Ned, and was married with a daughter named Abigail until his wife, Lucy, was killed in an accident. This caused Abigail to turn against her father and become an antagonist. After his friend Ned was turned into a talking shrunken head, he befriends Ned’s grandson Andy in order to help the Jungle Explorers Society get hold of the Tiki Key and the Kapu Key to stop their enemy society The Collective from unleashing vengeful Polynesian gods on the world, which they and the rest of the Jungle Explorers Society do succeed in, and Awol reconciles with his daughter. He later becomes the Vice President of the Jungle Explorers Society. These events belong to an alternate universe and are not canon to his story in the theme parks.
