He was shocked enough catching her scent all the way out here. Travelling by foot back home wasn’t usually this eventful. And as much as he was thinking he wanted to see his friends as soon as possible, this was far from what he had in mind.
He tried to support her weight as she stood on her own, but the second she fell back to her knees he cursed under his breath again and immediately shouldered his travel bag and stooped down to scooped her up into his arms. He made sure her head was cradled comfortably against his chest before pulling his cloak closed over the both of them, leaving only a bit of her face exposed so he can keep an eye on her condition.
He had a lot of questions, what was she doing out here, how long had she been alone in the cold, who was the bastard that covered her in bruises? The last question had him seething in anger, and also in self imposed guilt for not having been there for her when she obviously needed help. But, these thoughts could wait for now, Levy was too weak to talk right now and getting her someplace warm, and tending to her wounds came first.
“Hold on, Lev. I’ll get you home as fast as i damn well can.” and with his cloak clutched tightly closed in his hand to keep the wind from hitting her, Gajeel hot footed it back to town. He didn’t stop even for a second, occasionally mumbling reassuring words against the dozing girl’s temple the whole way there. His feet didn’t cease in their quick pace until they were both safe in the warm entrance of the guild.
He all but ignored the concerned fluttering of the few guildmates that were there at this hour, his focus too dead set on marching her straight to the infirmary.
“You’re gonna be alright. We’re home now. You’re ok.” even now his gruff voice was unusually gentle and soft as he carried her further into the guild.
He set her gently on one of the beds there and pulled the covers up over her form before he set to work fetching anything he thought she might need right at this moment.
