Somewhere off the Parkway in Gatlinburg over Honey and Sis' mobile surprise shortwave worldcaster
SIS, with some exuberance: And you'll never guess what ensueth today here in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where we are worldcasting from this evening! HONEY: I do have to admit, Sis, that things got a little on the interesting side, what with the Cattanooga Cats leading a rather impromptu Easter Parade down Gatlinburg's main drag, The Parkway, of us fellow Funtastics ... and you'll never guess the curiosity factor inherent! SIS: What with so many in Gatlinburg for the Easter weekend, to begin with, what else could they be attracted to besides the park and Dollywood? HONEY: Oh yes, and Ripley's. SIS: And don't you forget about Cattanooga Klatsche as well....
Meanwhile, from somewhere in Indiana, Honey and Sis are pulling off another of their surprise shortwave worldcasts ...
[The station's opening theme, Queen's "Radio Ga-Ga," fades out over its irradiated shortwaves so that--] HONEY and SIS, together: HELLLLLOOOOOO, SAILORS!! HONEY: I'm Honey-- SIS: I'm Sis--and we are on the shortwave ether again, ready to reach you with our 50 watts of Effective Irradiated Power wherever your shortwave receiving set may be situated! HONEY: And in case you ask, we're heading down to Gatlinburg where, on Easter Sunday, we'll be joining in an impromptu Easter Parade--of sorts--which the Cattanooga Cats "themselves" will be leading! SIS, somewhat incredulous: You mean THE Cattanooga Cats, the ones that have that coffee place in Gatlinburg, Cattanooga Klatsche? HONEY: However did YOU know about it? SIS: I assume we were there incognito at least a couple of times in the past....
Overheard during an underwater worldcast over Honey and Sis' popup shortwave worldcasting station:
SIS, with considerable excitement: Now I admit this is rather unusual for shortwave radio, but thanks to the improvements in diving technology, Honey and I are actually able to be broadcasting underwater while wearing full-on SCUBA gear!!
HONEY, somehow losing her pragmatism: I just have to say that we are having an unbelievable worldcasting experience, what with many of you shortwave listeners likely having ideas about shortwave radio somehow being stuffy and predictably boring--
SIS, rejoindering: But it's certainly in the past. And besides, where we're worldcasting from--underneath one of Minnesota's Ten Thousand Lakes, to be specific about it--it's unbelievably clear, you can sense some sunlight filtering through the water, and it just feels so cooling and inviting to be broadcasting from underwater like this!
[The ringer on the mobile phone sounds from inside Sis' dive helmet, and she answers.]
Uh, who am I speaking with, please?
PETER POTAMUS, on ameche: None other than Peter Potamus "himself," something of a diver extraordinaire himself!
SIS: Well, if it isn't Peter Potamus ... glad we could be talking, and then some!
PETER POTAMUS: Make no mistake about it, Sis ... and I understand you're worldcasting from beneath one of the Ten Thousand Lakes of Minnesota?!
SIS: That is correct!
PETER POTAMUS: And who wouldn't enjoy listening in?
HONEY, taking stock of what's happening: Who otherwise wouldn't?
