Iris Film Collective are pleased to community partner with Cineworks for SUPER 8: Shoot-to-Screen!  Join artist Nisha Platzer for a full weekend workshop where participants will learn a brief history of Super 8, shoot their very own black and white films, process by hand, and have the final works shown in a screening with live music.
Day 1: Learn about the format of Super 8 and see some examples before going out and shooting your own films. Day 2: Using photochemistry, process the films and splice them together before the screening! Elements covered will include: - Principles of exposing film - Shooting options - Operating Super 8 camera - Film processing in photo-chemicals Limited Tickets available via Eventbrite HERE. Nisha is a filmmaker and photographer from Vancouver, working in analogue and handmade formats. She studied at the International School of Cinema in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba and at Concordia University in Montreal. Nisha’s short films have screened at festivals in North America, South America and Europe. She likes to combine artistic mediums to explore themes of identity and the intersections therein. Nisha was an artist in residence at the James Black Gallery from 2015-2016 and is a member of Iris Film Collective. She has given experimental film workshops in Canada, Colombia, Uruguay and Cuba. She loves to work with creative people of all ages, so get in touch to share your artistic ideas!

Presented by James Black Gallery and Iris Film Collective, this hands-on workshop facilitated by Nisha Platzer invites participants to explore the world of Super 8 film, creating a short black and white film which they will hand process in photochemistry. A brief introduction to the format on Friday evening will be followed by shooting films on Saturday and processing on Sunday.
Arrive with an idea, or experiment with form and visuals to create an original Super 8 piece. One roll of black & white reversal film per team.
Materials will be provided and no experience is necessary.
Public screening on Sunday night open to all!
