We are pleased to have YUL20A by Iris Film Collective member Alex MacKenzie having its World Premiere on opening night Oct 20 at 8pm, and member Nisha Platzer’s BACK HOME also featured the afternoon of Saturday the 21st at 3pm. Iris Film Collective's Nisha Platzer is touring her feature documentary back home, with shows at Chicago Underground FF (Sept 15 & 17), Whammy! Analog in LA (Sept 18), Shapeshifters in Oakland (Sept 20) and Local Sightings FF Seattle (Sept 24), with more to come in October!
back home follows the filmmaker’s pursuit to get to know her older brother, Josh, twenty years after he took his own life. Over a five-year period, she connects with the friends who knew him best as a teenager. Her exchanges with Josh’s found family express the importance and transformative power of grieving in community.
Through intimate recollections re-imagined on 16mm and Super8 film, and lyrical, celluloid visuals hand-processed in plants, seaweed, soil and ashes, back home floats between memory and the present – a fragmented meditation on identity, loss, and healing.

Beautiful work on display last night and this morning by Iris member Nisha Platzer who has been occupying the Fieldhouse these last weeks exploring a vast array of alternative film techniques to render ideas to celluloid for her feature film BACK HOME.
Thanks to all who came out in person and for observing proper protocols, and to all who showed up virtually, a nice crowd all around!

For this WORK IN PROGRESS residency, Iris Film Collective member Nisha Platzer will be continuing work on her feature film BACK HOME, a kaleidoscopic piece reflecting on the life and loss of her older brother Josh, who took his own life in 1999. Parts of the film are shot on Super 8mm and 16mm and then manually altered to create an expressive and disturbing visual quality. During the month of May Nisha will be trying out different techniques with the aim of finding the right aesthetic for these more abstract sections of the film.
On Saturday May 29th at 9pm, Nisha will screen some of her recent creations in the Fieldhouse window. The event will also be livestreamed on Instagram Live @theirisfilmers

On Sunday May 30th at 10:30am Nisha will host a Virtual Open House where the public is welcome to have a look at the work she has been doing at the Fieldhouse this month. This will be held on Instagram Live @theirisfilmers
Nisha Platzer is an artist and filmmaker based in Vancouver. Her work involves handmade celluloid processes, documentary and still photography. Her films and photographs have been exhibited at festivals and galleries worldwide. melodiousimage.com
