Treasurer Gown from "The Dark Crystal Collection" Clothing Line
Sold on Julien's Auctions, for $2,240, on Nov 25, 2025, for The Jim Henson Company 70th Anniversary Auction.
"An ornate, black evening dress, known as the "Treasurer Gown," from the 1982 retail clothing line, "The Dark Crystal Collection," inspired by the Treasurer Skeksis, skekShod.
The dress is a princess-style gown made of synthetic taffeta. It features off-the-shoulder puff sleeves comprised of synthetic chiffon, a fitted bodice with a tightly gathered, natural waistline, an open skirt with applique bows sewn at the waistline that tie to the hem (similar to a garter-style) in order to create a draped hemline skirt. The interior skirt is fully-lined, internal Petersham, that is sewn at the waistline to support the weight of the skirt. It contains its original tags for "The Dark Crystal Collection," Henri Bendel's department store in New York City, UK size 6, and a single-fold tag with additional details attached to the back zipper.
Designed and developed in conjunction with the production of the film, "The Dark Crystal Collection" utilized the Brian Froud's designs for the film and re-imagined them for the world of haute-couture fashion. Each piece was built at The Hampstead Workshop in London by an all-female team of designers - Shirley Denney, Ellis Flyte, Val Jones, Lesja Lieber, Diana Moseley, and Cas Willing. The original press release for the clothing line included photos of models wearing the garments, including some modeled by Jim Henson's daughter, Cheryl Henson. At the time, the clothing line was not a hot seller, but because of that (as well as its limited-run quantity to begin with) any pieces from "The Dark Crystal Collection" are exceptionally rare.
