I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED. :rolls out a long list: 

It might have stemmed from how I didn’t like the idea of Coco///Nozo in season 1 so I was still pretty open to ships. NGL I shipped Nutts/Coco from the get go, just because they’re the only two male in the series and they were friends and the attitude of Coco towards Nutts in the beginning gets me. (The cheerful one and the tsun one) but Nutts calmed down relatively and Coco is just Coco. But you didn’t ask about NuttsCoco so lets continue.

Anyway, I gained a huge interested in Syrup because he was voiced by Paku Romi. But the way that he and Nozomi interacted from episode one totally captured my heart. Again, another cheerful one and the grump, and you can tell Syrup isn’t amused by some of her actions but he still sticks around and help her. (I know it’s because he’s not a bad person and wouldn’t watch a girl’s precious letter drop or let her get involved with bad guys.) 

Also Syrup is “closer in age” to Nozomi. Its in quote because I don’t know how Palmiers age and Syrup isn’t even a true Palmier citizen. 

It’s mostly because I’m fond of the grump/cheery one, and you can see a lot of that when they interact, where Nozomi is constantly “bothering” him about things he doesn’t care about because he’s never had friends before. Also Nozomi’s trust for him had little basis other than she knew he was a good guy because he saved her letter. Chalk it up to her being naive but her trust in him was probably the only thing holding him back. The whole season is really about how Syrup becomes friends with all the girls and reconcile his relationship with Coco and his past, but Nozomi as protag gets special treatment so shhhhhhhh. 

Episode 45 was what actually solidified my love for these two and made them OTP tier? Because in the beginning of the series, Syrup would get these cute moments with Nozomi but it was just here and there and Coco would always be standing in the back, reminding me constantly that nothing more will ever come from it. The bond they showed in the ep was definitely something that could be read deeper. I honestly believe that if season one and Coco///Nozo were not established, they would have pushed harder for ShiroNozo. I think I saw a few people saying it should have been Lemonade standing next to him, but no, it was Dream, because she was the one that placed her trust in him and she was the one that decided that they’ll go to Cure Rose Garden together.

I really just get giddy over him saving her and her defending him okay. Because as a Cure, you usually don’t need help from other unless its like Milky Rose or the Miracle Lights and they get power ups. You don’t see a lot of people throwing themselves to save them because they’re strong enough. But no, Syrup has jumped in front of Dream. (Also protected Nozomi but she was being very careless woops) It’s also a plus when my ship is a good duo in battle/are equals on the field. I admit Syrup isn’t that strong but he took a few hits in his bigger form, which is a little more than what the Palmier Princes can take.

Okay, another confession, I skipped a lot of the episodes in the first Yes because I was mainly only interested in Rin and Komachi episodes so I didn’t see a lot how Coco and Nozomi’s relationship developed.(The episodes I did see, I did not like.) I won’t try to argue against Coco////Nozo but in a way, ShiroNozo is kind of similar, in that she was helping him in his dream and he also taught her something important. 

As for Shiro///Ura, I don’t mind them as much, but I never saw it as anything romantic? Because of the first season of Yes, the romance was blatant and in your face, so if they were going to establish Shiro///Ura as canon, it didn’t occur to me at all? They had a few good episodes and moments here and there but I wasn’t paying attention because I was looking for Shiro/Nozo lol.
