It took some time in this world before Jade fully understood its construct and the rules applied to the inhabitants that found themselves calling it āhomeā. Once he caught on, however, it was easy to determine the seraphim and other spirits from the humans. Even if, with his glasses, he could see them both as equally-tangible beings, the separation in habits and behavior is strong enough that picking a spirit out of a crowd ( quite literally, sometimes ) became a fast and old game of his whenever he would arrive in a new town or meet a stranger on the road.
This town really has nothing going for it, in his opinion. Small; out of the way; filled with villagers either sick, elderly, or just anxious enough to consider it an equally debilitating disease. Still, heās been asked to help by a passerby. As soon as the young boy had learned Jade had some medical experience ( he saved the innocent mind those details of what kind ), he was immediately beckoned to the youthās hometown. Heās not in the business of volunteering his time to help complete strangers when he has problems of his own, but it wasnāt too far out of his way and the kidā¦
The kid, heavens above help him, reminded him of a younger Dist just a little too much to turn away.
He just hopes there isnāt some sort of deranged doppleganger of his younger self awaiting him there, as well. That would be enough to burn the town on arrival, but thereās no mention in conversation about a strange little boy that just happens to show up when beloved pets disappear, so he considers it safe.
āThe hospital is this way--! Hey, dad! I found a doctor!ā
Both āhospitalā and ādoctorā would need to be taken with a grain of salt. The building he was led to, among excited chatter from the more alert residents, was falling apart nearly as much as the inhabitants within. He knows the cause of all this illness ( although they donāt seem to realize the air is heavy with malicious intent ) and itās not something that can be treated with typical medicine.
Still, heāll do his best to treat the symptoms and then be on his way.
Heās surprised, then, to see another body inside already hard at work on just that task. They already have one provider, and yet this boy brings him, too? But the way heās being greetedā
āOh, youāre really a doctor?ā
āWe havenāt had any luck finding anyone that would come help usā¦ā
He ignores one line after another, instead fixated on the person ( or, perhaps being is a better term ) moving around between the beds of the sick. Thereās no doubt in his mind, then.
āOf course. If you all would, I prefer to work in silence. May I have the room?ā
And just like that, with just an implication of a promise, they heed his every word. Humans really are so vulnerable. And in moments, with cheer and optimism, they leave him alone. Or, as alone as he will be. He doesnāt waste any time.
āI wonder⦠are you here to help or to harm?ā
