Shezilla can always be differentiated from Godzilla even in images that arenāt colored.
She is shorter and her dorsal spines are noticeably smaller and rounder.
When theyāre colored in, she is always lighter gray. Godzilla is charcoal gray, Shezilla is granite gray.
If you wanna see how differently Godzilla and Shezilla react to a new situation, imagine them both being tiny.
As in shrunk down to action figure size. Theyāre together in an animal carrier of some sort and you get them home and into your bedroom.
You open the carrier and dump them as gently as you can onto the floor.
Shezilla will immediately scramble under your dresser because she sees the room, sees how huge you are compared to her, thinks DANGER and hides. Everything is a threat to her life as far as sheās concerned. She is a āneurotypicalā godzillasaur and she sees the forest before she sees the individual trees.
Godzilla will be roaring at you and squaring up to fight because he sees you, assumes youāre challenging him, thinks FIGHT and gets ready for one. You are a threat to his dominance as far as heās concerned. He wonāt even notice the room unless you leave and let him get a good look around. Thatās how he processes info. He sees the individual trees before he sees the forest.

Humans, on average, have a hearing range between 20 hertz and 20,000 hertz, and this tends to shrink a little as we age. Some can hear a little above or below, but thatās not typical.
Sounds below what we can hear are infrasounds, and sounds above what we can hear are ultrasounds.
Godzillasaurs have both a syrinx where their trachea splits into bronchi, and a larynx higher up near the back of their throat. The syrinx is where all vocal sounds come from. The larynx has no true vocal cords and will close off to keep water and ionized gas out of the lungs when they dive or use their atomic beam. The larynx can narrow their airway a little to change the intensity of their roars just like putting your thumb over the tip of a hose makes the water squirt harder.
To purr, godzillasaurs close the larynx about halfway and āhumā from their syrinx, which causes air turbulence in the trachea. They can only make the sound on exhale, so they donāt purr exactly like a cat. It sounds more like a chesty, low growl.
Purring is how they say they like somebody, it shows theyāre content and some purr to express happiness.
The roars of male and female mutated godzillasaurs can be told apart by instrumentation that senses ultrasounds and infrasounds.
Shezillaās roar has a screaming overtone to it because it contains more ultrasounds than infrasounds. She can generate infrasounds in her roar if she wants, but itās like a human making their voice go lower in pitch.
Godzillaās roar has a rumbling undertone to it because it contains more infrasounds than ultrasounds. He can generate ultrasounds if he wants, but itās like using falsetto or screaming.
Godzillasaurs would think humans are deaf because weāre so unresponsive to all but a tiny part of their vocal range.
Their roars have harmonics that we canāt hear, so weāre not hearing what their roars actually sound like to them. They often grunt and growl at frequencies too high or low pitched for us to hear, so we may see them making faces at each other and not hear the āspeechā noises theyāre exchanging. Someone close by might feel weirdly unsettled by the vibrations, though.
Singers, prepare to be jealousā godzillasaurs are really loud and it only requires as much effort as it takes a human to talk. Their roars reach 174 decibels easily, so they can be heard by humans from about 6 or 7 miles away if there isnāt a lot of interfering terrain and noise.
Godzillasaurs roaring on an African plain will be heard further away than if theyāre roaring inside a city with a lot of noise.
In the real world, if you were standing a mere 330 feet from Godzilla or Shezilla when they roar, vibrations from the sound will shatter glass around you, rupture your eardrums and possibly kill you. Further away, you will probably be stunned by the vibrations and infrasounds.
(For contrast, a male lionās roar is 114 decibels from 3 feet away and on flat African plains it can supposedly be heard by humans up to 5 miles away.)
Godzilla and Shezilla can hear each other from up to 50 miles away, double that underwater where sound vibrations travel even faster.
Godzillaās roar can reverberate, vibrate and penetrate obstacles because of its infrasounds. Shezillaās roar often bounces back to her because of its ultrasounds, which she can use like sonar to guess at terrain she canāt see yet, but the few infrasounds it still contains will allow it to travel just as far as Godzillaās.
Male godzillasaurs go through a bit of a voice change at puberty similar to AMAB humans because their trachea and syrinx grow thicker than a femaleās. They temporarily lose their voice because the syrinx becomes inflexible during the maturation growth spurt. They can only make a hoarse squawking noise that sounds vaguely like a godzillasaur roar. Then one day they wake up and let out a fearsome roar that tells the world they are growing up.
Godzillasaurs roar for some of the same reasons lions doā to indicate territory, to communicate with each other over long distances and to warn enemies away.
Other reasons to roar include:
Announcing an approach (males do this more than females). It basically means āsquare up, because Iām coming to fight you for this territory!ā
Announcing they killed an opponent. It basically means āI just wiped this loser off the map and Iāll wipe you off too if you challenge me!ā
Announcing themselves to an unfamiliar presence coming into their territory. It basically means āCome at me, bro, Iām ready to pulverize you for coming here uninvited.ā
To warn other pod members of danger. It basically means āDonāt come this way, itās bad here! / Iām sick and will make you sick, stay away!ā
To call the rest of the pod together to eat / feed. āHey, I got dinner for us! / Hey, I found a reactor, come take a drag!ā
To express emotions. Unlike humans, they state how they feel. Basically, itās them calling out, āIām angry!ā āIām sad!ā āIām happy!ā āIām scared!ā āI find this funny!ā āThat surprised me!ā āI am so confused right now!ā
Because thatās their personality, so they ātalkā more.
Humans may detect differences in the volume and intensities of roars indicating emotion, but they have to look with their eyes at a godzillasaurās expression and body language to assess moods. Godzillasaurs can hear those indicators and read them like tones of voice without having to see each other.
Kaijuologist studies indicate godzillasaurs have a sarcasm equivalent, where they roar at frequencies opposite to how they would normally feel in a situation, but their body language indicates their true feelings.
So a godzillasaur will display angry body language and let out a happy roar. Itās as if one is saying to another, āOh, Iām just so happy that you ate the whale I was saving for later! Thanks, you jerk!ā
When Godzilla is announcing his approach to a location, he listens for any loud response that indicates another creature is present and whether or not itās familiar or unfamiliar. A loud noise like a clock tower bell, a fog horn, a train horn or even a loud rock concert sounds like a challenger to him and heāll go find the source.
Shezilla isnāt as likely to announce her approach. She roars less often in dense city areas because she gets a lot of echo returns. If she is fighting an opponent in a downtown or a mountainous area, she will roar to confuse them, because if she is out of sight itās hard to tell exactly where the sound is coming from. This can make it hard to tell which way sheās entering a city from, too, so a spotter has to confirm her location.
Godzilla and Shezilla will often call to each other if theyāre not together when foraging for reactors in a city.
The harmonics for each godzillasaurās roar is distinct to instruments capable of detecting ultrasounds and infrasounds. Roar profiles can be used to identify individuals.
Interestingly, the same is also true for their purrs! Some godzillasaurs have a higher, faster purr than others. Humans may find the sound unnerving if they donāt know what it means.
Godzillasaurs distinguish each otherās vocalizations the same way humans distinguish between other human voices.
Certain frequencies irritate godzillasaurs. This happens to be exactly the frequencies baby godzillasaurs having a tantrum will screech at, but they also screech at this frequency when in distress, too.
Roars are just a portion of godzillasaur communication. Old Tongue utilizes much more than that! Old Tongue is a combination of sounds, facial expressions and body language that may go unnoticed by all but the closest pattern-recognizing observers.
In closing: Godzillasaur roars are awesome.
Godzillaās brain! (Headcanon infodump)
If you want to get technical about it, Godzilla has an ABI (acquired brain injury) caused by hypoxia.
In humans ABIs are brain injuries that happen after birth. A TBI(traumatic brain injury) is considered an ABI too, but not all ABIs are TBIs.Ā If you hit your head and it damaged your brain, thatās a TBI, which is an ABI. If you didnāt breathe properly after you were born and it damaged your brain, thatās just an ABI.Ā Cerebral palsy is an ABI. A blow to the head that causes bleeding in the brain is an ABI thatās also a TBI. See how it works?
For Godzilla,Ā ābirthā is a muddy subject. He hatched from an egg, so the rules are a tiny bit different. Godzilla (as a typical pre-mutation godzillasaur) formed normally in the yolk of his egg with the exception of the ventricular septal defect in his heart.Ā
If you managed to get a drone into Godzillaās body and passed it into his heart, you would find the septum stops about 2/3 of the way down. The hole looks almost like a nostril, and right smack in the middle are the two nerves of his heartās conduction system-- much like the bundle of His in humans. The same genetic quirk gave him a quadricuspid aortic valve (he has 2 aortas and a foramen of panizza like a croc), but that doesnāt affect him at all, it just looks cool.Ā
The VSD didnāt pose much problem in the beginning when he was just a little blob. Issues arose asĀ body finished developing and the fine tuning began. He needed more and more oxygen, which his heart couldnāt supply properly, and both his cranial and spinal brains were damaged as a result.
The motor areas in his spinal brain took the hit first, which affected his legs and tail. Then it happened in his cranial brain, which affected his upper body. Someone ācandlingā his egg wouldāve noticed he moved less and less as his muscles tightened up.
Certain areas in his cranial brain failed to mature and migrate properly. The areas responsible for cognition got hit the hardest by that, which would lead to him having an unnatural fear response cycle (not enough emotional area connections to his tiny amygdala-equivalent), trouble with perception / spacial awareness and difficulty processing information. The areas of his brain that didnāt form properly linked up in a new way, and that led to his unusual hyperthymestic memory. It literally looks like a bridge of neurons across the bottom of his brain and functions like a human hippocampus.Ā
Guess whatās parked on top of that? His dinky bundle of amygdala-equivalent neurons. Thereās only 1 bundle, whereas humans have 2. Those neurons arenāt connected with the rest of his brain, but they do connect to his brain stem, so they work a bit like 2 cords side by side that plug into the same wall outlet. The outlet is his brain stem. Itās why stimuli trigger physiological changes associated with fear, but not the emotion itself. So young Godzilla lacked the instinct to flee any danger, but felt his heart speed up, felt his breathing get faster and became more alert. Then he got angry because he was annoyed by the sudden bump of alertness.
Godzillasaurs donāt have a cerebral cortex as we know it. Still, their brains are arranged with bundles of neurons that function with similar complexity to more evolved animals. Maybe, if they had survived to evolve like the apes did, they might have come close to or matched humans in terms of intelligence.Ā
Post-mutation, Godzillaās cranial brain seems small and simple at a glance (Itās about the size of a classic Volkswagen van), but someone weighing it would be surprised by its mass.Ā He developed a neocortex with shallow gyri and sulci that function similarly to human frontal, temporal, occipital and parietal lobes. Itās because of this that heās capable of āhigher thoughtā beyond what he could do as an unmutated godzillasaur, such as thinking about the future and being able to "questionā things. (His equivalent of goingĀ āwait, is it a good idea to do that?ā Usually he does whatever *that* is anyway...but the ability to wonder if he should is one he didn'tĀ have before! So when he looks back in his memory he asks himself questions he wouldāve asked at those times if he could.)Ā
Now, remember his dinky bundle of amygdala-equivalent neurons? They branched out to connect with his hippocampus-equivalent and itās why trauma triggers an emotional fear response instead of just the physiological part, but other stimuli only set off the physiological response.Ā
Godzilla grew a very primitive limbic system. Itās because of this that he connects more deeply to an emotional range he wasnāt wholly capable of pre-mutation. Part of that was his ABI, so the mutation helped connect areas in his brain that werenāt connected before.
These brain changes happened rapidly over a span of days, hence the temporary deafness and blindness Godzilla struggled through as his body changed. The tonic-clonic and myoclonic seizures he endured came from the already-damaged areas of his brain migrating (which irritated surrounding tissues) and new neurons growing so fast they sheared themselves apart.Ā
The seizures both intensified his hyperthymestic memory and exacerbated the ABI-related cognitive issues he already has.Ā His āhippocampusā bridge was encoded with all this trauma between seizures, which allowed it to connect with the emotional areas of his brain to create the circuit where trauma leads to a proper fear response. He hasnāt had a seizure since his mutation completed, but his bouts of clonus (shaking / twitching) and full body spasms (random tensing up) can look like one. He has more all-over spasms when heās fatigued, the clonus just happens randomly.
Godzillaās intelligenceĀ is average for his species, but the issues caused by his ABI post-mutation mask it. He would have a pretty serious case of dyscalculia, no sense of direction and a complete inability to read maps or numbers if he was human. The only reason he has any sense of direction is because he uses his hyperthymestic memory, the horizons and Earthās magnetic fields to navigate his old migration routes by feel. A strong magnetic pull can throw him way off course. He can recall sequences of actions perfectly because his autobiographical memory is always recording things, and the right stimuli make him recall it.
And those weird extraordinary abilities mask his struggles. If he was human he would get misdiagnosed as intellectually disabled due to presenting in such an unusual way. Heās cognitively disabled.Ā
Kaijuologists miss the cognitive issues because Godzilla doesnāt live in a world where his cognitive struggles interfere as much. He doesnāt speak our words or think like us, so itās hard to tell a species thing, apart from his personality, instincts and a cognition issue.Ā Testing him and Shezilla together would make his issues and their personalities glaringly obvious. (Godzilla tends to be abrupt and brusque, Shezilla is inquisitive and analytical.)
Godzilla gets stuck mentally, but to an observing human it looks like he is suddenly angry for no reasonĀ because he gets a specific expression on his face when it happens. Itās a sneer coupled with a frowning, wide-eyed thousand yard stare that could peel the paint right off a car.
This āstuckā condition has to do with how he processes information, his spacial awareness, the environment not matching up to what he thinks should be there and his inability to suss out whatās different or why itās different.Ā
Example 1: (With family)
Thereās a boulder formation on the island he, Shezilla and Filia call home. He looks at it a lot. One day he leaves to feed on something radioactive.
Filia starts playing around on the boulders and accidentally knocks one of them behind a bigger one, so itās no longer visible. She runs off to do something else.
Godzilla comes back, looks at the boulder formation and sees something is different. But he canāt figure out what that difference is, even as he stares at the gap where the missing boulder should be. He remembers it was there, but his mind doesnāt click in with what happened. Thatās a spacial awareness issue tangling up with his memory.
He gets really mad because I know something is wrong and I canāt figure out what it is!Ā
Shezilla goes up to Godzilla and tells him whatās wrong because she knows that frown with wide open eyes means the gears in his head are stuck. Telling him whatās wrong gets him unstuck before he flies into a rage. The temper tantrum is disarmed.Ā
Nobody has to put the rock back because thatās not the problem. Godzillaās brain is a bit like HTML text page where the missing boulder is somebody forgot to close a <b> tag in the title, so the whole page ends up with bold text. All Shezilla does by telling him it was moved is give him the </b> tag. Now he can understand whatās different and why.Ā
Putting the boulder back will also get him unstuck since itĀ āfixesā theĀ ābroken pictureā heās stuck trying to process. It doesnāt matter if itās upside down or facing a different directly entirely, it just has to be there.
He wouldnāt have had the problem if all the boulders got moved, because then the whole picture is changed instead of just a small part. Big changes make him goĀ āwow, wtf?ā, but smaller ones cause him to get stuck.Ā
-
Example 2: (Alone)
Being hyperthymestic causes Godzilla to get lost in his memory a lot. Itās not quite maladaptive daydreaming because heās mentally going over another part of his life.
He goes foraging in Tokyo, but his mind is traveling millions of years ago to when he walked among trees many times taller than him. He loses track of whatās real and whatās recollection. His mindās eye sees trees, not buildings.
Then a maser cannon zaps him in the chest, abruptly yanking him to the present. He sees the buildings instead of the trees. He doesnāt know where the trees went, so he knocks a building down thinking the forest is right behind it. And it isnāt.
Now thereās a bunch of maser tanks, missiles, artillery, etc slamming into Godzilla. Itās a bombardment of bright lights, smoke / gunpowder smells and loud noise while heās already confused about where he is in time, so on top of being confused heās now in sensory overload too.
He gets pissed off because he canāt find the forest he remembers and he canāt think his way through what is past and what is now with all the chaos being thrown at him. The tantrum* kicks in. He smashes everything in sight, screams at the JSDF that heās lost and destroys more of the city out of spite because nobody is there to tell him the forest heās looking for is long gone. He thinks itās hidden in or behind the big buildings, and no it doesnāt occur to him that a whole forest canāt fit inside / behind a building thatās as tall as he is. Thatās a hint of the spacial awareness issue.
So he smashes buildings and there is no forest. It takes a lot of smashing and stomping for him to realize there isnāt a forest hidden in the city.
The tantrum cools his rage enough to think clearly again, but itās mentally and emotionally exhausting. Giving up isnāt something Godzilla likes to do. In this case, he has to, because all the activity has his heartrate up and his chest hurts. Thatās always his warning sign to chill out.
Godzilla takes out a nuclear reactor, feeds and leaves. Heās irritable and sore as he swims away. He gets home to his island, which has a beautiful forest. The environment matches his memory again, so he calms down and goes to sleep.
* Itās not like an autistic meltdown at all. Godzilla doesnāt have control of whether or not he has a tantrum once his temper explodes, but he can choose how he responds to it. He chooses to yell, smash stuff and make a mess. Sensory overload is painful, confusing and annoying to him, but sensory overload alone wonāt make him lose control of himself. He just smashes everything around him until he stops whateverās causing it.Ā
If Shezilla is in the city with Godzilla, she can calm him down and lead him away without as much destruction. No matter how mad he gets Godzilla will never purposely try to injure his own family members, and Shezilla knows this. She knows how to talk to him and help him get in line with the present. (And byĀ ātalkā I mean communicating in Old Tongue. :P)
-
Example 3: (Alone)Ā
Iām gonna borrow from my Shrinking Project fanfic to say itās possible to make Godzilla shut down mentally and emotionally by taking him through a lot of rapid changes in a short period of time. This is the worst way he gets stuck mentally and itās the hardest for him to deal with.
So tiny!Godzilla is plucked up out of the ocean after being hit by the shrink ray. He wakes up on a lab table to giant humans staring down at him. Goro, the aggressive one, throws his arms up in an attempt to intimidate. Godzilla reacts to that by getting pissed off and asking the guy what he thinks heās doing.
Goro keeps escalating Godzilla, and then Reiko suddenly comes over with a tank of gas that knocks him out. Godzilla wakes up in an enclosure thatās all plain surfaces. Itās unfamiliar and strange.
A lot of things happen between that enclosure and the main laboratory. Then Reiko smuggles Godzilla out, so he ends up in a dark shoebox. Dark is scary to him, so he scrapes holes in the box to get some light. He goes from the shoebox to Reikoās bathtub.
The environment never stays stable. Heās always finding himself somewhere completely new with new information to process. Itās stressful. He gets exhausted.
So Godzilla lays down wherever he is and turns inward. No matter where he is, he will slip into a deep sleep because he no longer has the capacity to deal with whatās going on.
If heās allowed to sleep it off, heāll be fine when he wakes up because sleep is how he rests his brain. If heās awakened and disturbed, he is sluggish and depressed due to his ability to think / process information being greatly diminished.
Now, Godzilla wonāt be processing much if heās chasing an enemy through various environments or seeking sustenance. Giving him a goal gives him something concrete to focus on. But if thereās no goal and several rapid changes happen quickly, itās like ripping apart a puzzle heās trying to finish and making him start over. Eventually, heāll flip the table and refuse to start over again, and that is his brain shutting down.
The best thing anyone can do, whether itās humans or Shezilla, is to leave him alone when he curls up on the ground. He needs that shutdown sleep. If something like that happened around Shezilla in an inopportune place, she would tell Godzilla this isnāt the best place to sleep and take him somewhere better. If itās humans handling a tiny!Godzilla, putting him somewhere quiet and dark and not disturbing him at allĀ is the best way to help him recover.Ā
This situation is the kind of stuck where only time will get him unstuck.
-
Godzilla can eventually solve most problems on his own. If itās not a life or death situation heāll let it go once heās done being pissed off about being stuck on it.
In Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II he gets mad because he canāt find Baby. He throws a tantrum and trashes part of the city before he leaves. Later, he decides that if he smashes MechaGodzilla, heāll be able to get to Baby. And thatās what happened. Humans would say thatās not correct, that MechaGodzilla wasnāt holding Baby prisoner, but Godzilla saw MechaGodzilla as a metal abomination getting between him and another of his kind. He removed the obstacle and Miki Saegusa led him to Baby.
SpaceGodzilla imprisoned LittleGodzilla, so Godzilla smashes through a city in a rage to reach SpaceGodzilla. He figured out that SpaceGodzilla was using a tower as an energy source like he uses radiation, so he destroyed the tower. Killing SpaceGodzilla nullified his crystals, which set LittleGodzilla free.
Godzillaās problem solving is slow and depends on the situation, but 99% of the time he eventually gets his brain unstuck. Sometimes he thinks fast and comes up with a solution right away, sometimes he doesnāt.Ā
That doesnāt mean heās totally unable to get himself unstuck or solve a problem, itās just easier if someone is there to help him get unstuck. It saves him the grief of being confused for however long it takes before he figures the issue out or lets a minor thing go.

Headcanon: How to scare Godzilla.
Itās possible to scare Godzilla, but it requires a roundabout way due to his cognitive disability.Ā
GodzillaĀ feels the physiological reactions one gets when theyāre scared. He gets that weird itchy feeling in his stomach, feels his heart beating fast, notices his breathing gets quicker and all he experiences is restlessness. There is no cringing away or turning to flee. His body is responding as if heās fearful, but it doesnāt light up the emotional areas of his brain that tell him ādude, youāre scared, get out of there.ā That connection is missing in his brain, it never formed.
The emotion that comes up instead is angry defiance. He processes the situation and thinks he has to stand up to challenge whatever is causing a problem and crush it. HeĀ thinks of himself as being very brave because of this.
Godzilla got in trouble all the time as a baby for not running away when he saw predatory animals coming at him. He stood there and stared at the huge teeth / claws, or he screeched and squared up to fight. His dad was always darting out to snatch him up and run away to safety. That was something his dad didnāt grasp-- he scolded Godzilla all the time for putting himself in danger, and he had to tell him constantly to GET AWAY if he saw a bigger animal come at him or he was going to die. Young Godzilla eventually got this and started ducking into the underbrush.
The only real way to scare Godzilla is to remind him of trauma.Ā Trauma is different because it hurts really bad, or it leads to an unknown. Exposure to something that triggers memories of That Traumatic Thing will light up the emotional center of his brain first. He doesnāt want to feel That Traumatic Thing again, so that sets off the physiological fight or flight response. Then he feels actual fear as we know it. He can still get mad, he can still fight, but heās running more on the instinct to GTFO than worrying about winning.
Scared Godzilla is a really sad sight. He screams. Heāll hurt himself trying to destroy or get away from whatās scaring him. He loses control of his bowels. Sometimes he throws up. He cries, tears and all. If there is no escape he will take a protective posture by hunching down with his hands up near his face to guard his eyes and viciously decimate anything that comes close to him. He will never take a submissive belly-up posture voluntarily no matter how scared he gets.
Fortunately, not much can trigger fear in Godzilla like that. The things that do seem irrational until you understand the trauma behind them. All of his fears ultimately tie back to one thing.
-
Sudden darkness that he didnāt go into by choice.Ā
The most painful parts of his mutation were spent in nothingness because he went temporarily deaf-blind. This was when he was scrabbling around on the seafloor, eating sand and puking it up with blood. He didnāt know when it would end or if it would end. Mutating was not a kind or peaceful process for him.
Sudden darkness is Godzillaās literal worst fear. He wonāt be afraid if he swims or goes somewhere dark on his own because heās choosing to. But throw a black bag over his head thatās thick enough to not let any light through the fabric and he will absolutely panic.
-
Bright white flashes close to his eyesĀ
Mostly at night because it destroys his night vision and temporarily blinds him. It reminds him of the bright flashes he saw when he landed on the nuclear waste in the Bering Sea.
This one isnāt too bad because it passes quickly and he can see again after his eyes readjust to the dark.Ā
But one of the quickest ways to make Godzilla mad enough to chase you andĀ end you is scaring him with a bright white flash at close range.
-
Long fallsĀ
Heights donāt bother Godzilla until he falls off them. A drop of one full body length isnāt a long fall to him, it has to be at least a thousand feet or more (either literally or by scale related to his size). He has to see the ground heās falling towards to trigger this fear. It comes from his plunge into Mt. Mihara in 1984. The high-pitched sound he makes as he falls is a scream. Itās different from his chesty deep roars.
Godzilla has a very wonky sense of balance, and standing on the edge of cliffs triggers his vertigo. Falling forward is extremely disorienting to him, the same disorientation he felt when he couldnāt see or hear while his body mutated.
The fear stops immediately when he hits the ground. Itās not the impact or heights heās afraid of, itās the disorientation of falling. This is a fear he forgets he has because itās so rare for him to fall off anything high.
He runs into it in my Shrinking Project fanfic when he gets startled awake and leaps out of somebodyās hands. He ends up howling, hitting the floor and getting up totally fine.
-
NeedlesĀ
This one is from the Shrinking Project fanfic Iām working on, and itās a very conditional fear that sort of gets nipped in the bud before it turns into an all-out phobia.
Goro (villain of story) tricks tiny!Godzilla into using his beam and stabs him in the stomach with a needle to see what happens. Godzillaās beam takes a path itās not supposed to and literally cooks his internal organs. Heās kinda like an armored egg in that regard-- hard exterior of bones, muscles and flesh wrapped around a fragile interior. The uncontrolled radioactivity almost causes him to explode, but his body saves itself by venting the heat into his largest dorsal plate until it explodes instead. His innards still get cooked enough that heĀ ādiesā (cardiac arrest, agonal / guppy breathing), and his mutated healing abilities restart his heart and normalize his breathing again.
The pain was same pain he felt while mutating, so the needle created a new trauma memory. He actually doesnāt use his beam for awhile thanks to this.
Later, the heroes of the story have to take a blood sample to check on his health. He tries to escape the needle, freezes during the poke in his tail (caudal vein) and realizes heās okay after itās over. Reiko and Kenpachiro are really gentle about it and give him lots of pets and comfort to show him they arenāt out to be mean.Ā
Godzilla recognizes / remembers every face he sees, so he learns needles are only scary if Goro is holding them and doesnāt panic the next time Reiko and Kenpachiro have to poke him.
-
But yeah, the unusual fear response is why Godzilla flattens anything that provokes him instead of turning and leaving. This issue doesnāt pose much danger to him when heās full size because he can crush pretty much anything; being tiny is a totally different situation. The rushes of adrenaline arenāt good for his heart while heās tiny, and heāll do damage to or destroy whatever he sees as a challenge or threat even if it means he gets hurt in the process.Ā
Basically, he wonāt move out of the way of a moving car, heāll yell at it until it runs him over. His spines will puncture a tire, heāll get up and blast the car with his beam because it knocked him down. Something will melt or catch on fire and now itās a huge mess.
Godzilla does not submit to anyone or anything. Itās never a smart move to subjugate him.
Heāll accept Junior (or Shezilla and Filia, depending on the headcanon) knocking him onto his back during play-fights because thatās not a serious battle for dominance, but he gets offended if an opponent does that to him. Then he gets pissed off and everybodyās day gets wrecked.
He doesnāt get scared if he sees his family (Junior, Shezilla or Filia, again depends on the AU) being threatened or hurt, he just gets murderously enraged and will trash everything in his path to protect them. Thatās when Godzillaās physiological adrenaline rush gets dangerous...
...for his opponent.
So anyway, thatās how Godzilla responds to fear. He doesnāt until something triggers trauma memories.
Ya know, if Shezilla understood the concept of human fashion and beauty stuff, she would totally go for a mani and a pedi and paint her claws pretty colors with nail art. The glitzier, the better.
Heck, she would probably be a trendsetter by getting the bony parts of her dorsal spines painted and done up with art too!
This was something I drew for Valentineās day a long long long time ago. Itās theĀ sappiest cute thing of Godzilla and Shezilla cuddling in the surf while watching the sunset. Note that Venus (the Wishing Star to them) is up in the sky.Ā
I could not resist the tail heart thing.
Shezilla is the perfect height for Godzilla to put his arm around her shoulders. Sheās holding his hand so he doesnāt accidentally choke-hold her, but the angle hides that mostly (their backs are to us). She accommodates his issues like itās no big deal.
Iām aware that itās a really human looking gesture. They do a lot of things that mimic human movements, like holding hands and snuggling up to each other. They would be just as shocked to know humans do those things.
Here is the song the lyrics are from. Itās Valentine by Martina McBride. :)
