I freaking missed Yuri day yesterday, will you forgive me for that blunder?

she’s  lost  count  of  how  many  times  she’s  told  herself  that  before.  every  time  adora  did  well  in  training  ;  every  time  adora  laughed  ;  every  time  adora  defended  catra  to  shadow  weaver.  THESE  ARE  JUST  FEELINGS.  THEY’LL  GO  AWAY.  but  that  had  never  quite  managed  to  settle  her  stomach,  or  quell  the  butterflies,  or  stop  her  heart  jackhammering.  not  that  catra  had  ever  admitted  it.  she’d  instead  been  a  little  too  boisterous,  a  little  too  reckless  &  rowdy  :  talking  too  loud  because  she  can’t  hear  herself  properly  over  the  blood  pumping  in  her  ears.

&  then  adora  had  just  .  .  .  left.  abandoned  hordak,  shadow  weaver  (  lonnie,  rogelio,  kyle  )  ----------------  ABANDONED  CATRA.  left  her  there  with  no  one,  replacing  her  with  shiny  new  friends  &  that  fucking  sword.  adora  had  still  made  her  stomach  flip,  but  there  was  a  raw,  vicious  anger  in  it,  an  anger  catra  was  never  really  able  to  place  (  OR  WAS  IT  THAT  SHE  WAS  NEVER  REALLY  ABLE  TO  ADMIT  IT  ?  ).  she’d  tried  to  cover  it  up  with  nonchalance  &  insouciance,  but  everything  had  always  been  able  getting  adora’s  attention.  yes,  distracting  her  helped  hordak  with  his  plans,  but  it  still  came  from  a  place  of  inherent  selfishness.  PRINCESS  PROM  HAD  BEEN  LITTLE  MORE  THAN  AN  EXCUSE  TO  PROVE  TO  HERSELF  ADORA  STILL  CARED  ABOUT  HER  ---  AT  LEAST  A  LITTLE,  HADN’T  IT  ?  

          but  then  shadow  weaver  had  defected  to  adora,  too.

it  had  always  seemed  to  be  adora  &  catra  against  shadow  weaver,  &  all  of  a  sudden  it  was  adora  &  shadow  weaver  against  catra.  &  catra  had  realized  there  was  the  barrel  of  emotional  hurt  was  deeper  than  she’d  thought.  she  hurt  &  she  hurt  &  she  hurt,  &  she  lashed  out  at  everyone.  NO  ONE  CAN  LEAVE  YOU  IF  YOU’VE  ALREADY  LEFT  THEM.  feelings  had  been  all  catra  had  known,  for  so  long  ---  bright  scarlet,  blazing  hot  feelings  :  anger,  betrayal,  abandonment,  vengeance.  &  beneath  it  all,  the  deep,  incessant  crimson  undercurrent  of  what  she  knows  is  LOVE.  (  &  with  it,  the  dark  midnight  black  tinge  of  fear,  &  the  acrid  yellow-green  of  guilt  ).  feelings  ---  catra’s  felt  so  many  of  them  for  so  long,  she’s  not  quite  sure  she’ll  ever  be  the  same.  some  creatures  are  destined  only  for  destruction.

mind  control.  if  catra  was  asked,  right  now,  what  she  was  most  afraid  of,  it  would  be  that.  i’m  happy  here.  you  could  be  happy,  too.  if  it  hadn’t  been  for  adora  damaging  her  chip  -----------  catra  realizes  she  hasn’t  responded  ;  hasn’t  acknowledged  adora’s  words.  THESE  ARE  JUST  FEELINGS.  THEY’LL  GO  AWAY.  it’s  okay,  catra.  i’ve  got  you.  was  that  last  part  real,  or  wishful  thinking  ?  catra  doesn’t  know  anymore.  she’s  so  tired.  after  all  she’s  done  --  did  adora  really  come  back  for  her  ?  did  adora  really  save  her  ?  SOME  CREATURES  ARE  BEYOND  SAVING.  catra’s  not  entirely  sure  she  was  ever  worth  it  in  the  first  place,  even  before  she-ra  had  happened.  

she’s  aware  of  hair  being  moved  from  her  face  (  NOT  THAT  THERE’S  MUCH  OF  IT  LEFT,  ANYWAY  )  &  a  blanket  being  pulled  up  over  her  (  when  was  she  put  to  bed  ?  )  but  still  she  does  not  respond.  to  do  so  would  admit  defeat,  weakness  .  .  .  failure.  has  she  ever  succeeded  in  anything  ?  it’s  getting  harder  to  spots  her  wins  in  amongst  all  her  losses.  eyes  open,  &  she  takes  in  her  former  best  friend  blearily,  sluggishly.  hey,  adora.  her  body  aches,  every  muscle  screaming  under  the  weight  of  catra’s  emotional  baggage.  she  nods,  a  quiet  acknowledgement  of  adora’s  words.  THESE  ARE  JUST  FEELINGS.  THEY’LL  GO  AWAY.  of  course  they  will  -------------  she’s  catra.  everything  always  abandons  her  in  the  end.
