Let’s get this @sheoga_hardwood_flooring project going. If you missed my last post about it, check it out. We’re going to be making some F3s out of their gorgeous domestic hardwood 💪🏼 They sent me Birdseye maple, walnut and flamed cherry. First step is roughing out maple for fingerboards and quartersawn walnut for necks. Bodies will likely be walnut and we’ll do a mix of tops (maple, walnut and cherry). Hey, @sheoga_hardwood_flooring. 👋🏼 Morning chores. Tidy nut slot. The walls are cut using a Japanese saw and @stewmac_guitar fret slotting mitre box. Then the stuff in the middle is extracted with the vintage @stanleytools router plane. You gotta put the light really close so you can see what’s happening. I am honored to announce that for my next project I will be working with Sheoga Hardwood Flooring (@sheoga_hardwood_flooring) to make an instrument using wood harvested from the Appalachian region, USA. Sheoga sources a majority of their lumber from Amish sawmills, both stationary and portable, and some still use draft horses to pull out the logs. They are one of only six companies in the US that are RPP-certified, (Responsible Procurement Program), which means that they can trace the source of the lumber back to the original county in which it was grown and harvested. Once harvested, it is graded and put on sticks and air-dried from 2-6 months. They sent me walnut, cherry and Birdseye maple. 🔥 I’m super excited to get started! We will raffle the guitar(s) at the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) Orlando Expo in July. I’ll likely be posting every step of the build here on my Instagram page.
