The Strangeloves - Cara-Lin
Have I mentioned how much I love the internet lately? This song came up in my random listening last week. The loads of percussion really caught my attention so I made sure to take note of it and look into it more later. I looked up the Strangeloves to get more information on them, and their story is sorta strange. Well not textbook strange, just fictionalized.Â
The Strangeloves were a fictional band created in 1964 by a New York-based American songwriting production team who pretended to be from Australia. Consisting of Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein, and Richard Gottehrer
According to the press releases, The Strangeloves were three brothers named Giles, Miles, and Niles Strange who were raised on an Australian sheep farm. The brothers' fictional backstory involved getting rich with the invention of a new form of sheep crossbreeding (the long-haired "Gottehrer" sheep allegedly registered with the Feldman-Goldstein Company of Australia) which allowed them the time and financial freedom to form a band. The story did not exactly capture the public's imagination, but The Strangeloves' singles still performed respectably well especially in the United States.Â
Ok, it is strange. That's maybe one of the more ridiculous things I've heard about a band. So outlandish maybe that after only a few hits, they became complete strangers, only to be known later through Bow Wow Wow's cover of their hit I Want Candy. After a little digging (heh) that's how I found them. Thank you, the internet, for teaching me something new today. -a
I found a neat trick when breeding sheep. If you want to get a lot of colored wool without having to use a lot of dye, dye your two parent sheep the color you want. Breed them and the baby will be the same color as the parents. Then you wait for the child to grow up and you can shear the child and breed the parents again.
