SHEARING
Beautiful reel that crossed my dash today. Credit to @applecreekmerinos on instagram.
Lovely caption. I wonder what the community note is?
Well! They sure are!
Click go the shears, boys - click, click, click!
Wide is his blow and his hands move quick,
The ringer looks around and is beaten by a blow,
And curses the old snagger with the bare-bellied yoe!
The Wairarapa, the home of TeePee Cider, hosted the 2026 World Golden Shears at Masterton. This is an amazing competitive sport based on real farm life. Well worth attending. Ten countries competing NZ, England, Wales Scotland, Ireland, USA, Norway Switzerland Germany & South Africa. Every room in the hotels and B+Bs were bookd out. Great to hear all the different languages and banter. Should have brought our Shropshire sheep up from the orchard for a haircut! #sheep #shearing

Somebody in the background of this fantasy anime is shearing a sheep, and what you don't know you don't know and I guess animating the background sheep guy is low on the research priorities, but the guy is using two handed garden shears on this poor sheep, how are you manipulating/controlling the sheep without a free hand? The animal is going to get hurt.
He should be using something like this,
Spring shears like this date back to ancient Egypt and were in continuous use until the invention of modern mechanical shears, and still are in use in some regions and from personal preference.
^modern mechanical shears in use
Being in my first pregnancy and tied to the home feels somewhat isolating. I can't shake thinking about doing more with my life. Don't get me wrong, being a mother holds top priority in my heart and I can't wait for the memories we are about to make as a family. But I've always been one to work. I hate being out of work for to long. I've been dairy farming for the past five years along side my husband, but now that he's moved into the sheep and beef industry it's got me thinking about who I really want to be. My heart definitely lays in the comfort of a rural lifestyle. My grandfather (Poppa) ran his own shearing gang and competed in The Golden Shears. Even in his old age. He had multiple awards, from shearing competitions and also from boxing. He road bulls and competed in the bronc riding events at the rodeo. He was definitly a thrill seeker, giving anything a go that would provide him with his fix of adrenaline.
So I think it runs in my blood to find excitement in life, never settling for a dull moment. My husband I think watered the seed that my grandfather originally planted. He has a love for anything in the outdoors and it was going hunting and fishing with him that really lit that fire inside of me. Some may think it's funny that my only pregnancy craving I've had so far, is to go pig hunting! So whether it be, shearing, barrel racing, or drovering over in the outback of Australia, I'm determined to make something of my life and to set myself as an example for our children. Only it's goint to be a while before I get there. For now it's time to buckle down and focus on being a mother to my first little future cowboy ( or cowgirl ) ;)
Our Shropshire sheep had their once a year shear yesterday and it's good to get the heavy coat off before the summer heat and humidity in the orchard cause fly strike. Flystrike in NZ sheep is caused mainly by the Australian green blowfly- Lucilia cuprina. Peter Vallance of Che Baa Ber the maestro at work. #sheep #Shearing
