In early 2021, I had just started writing smut and just started falling for the one and only Pedro Pascal. We were still a year away from me joining tumblr. Also, I was in my second year as treasurer for my kid’s elementary school PTA (don’t worry, we weren’t *that* kind of PTA)

One day, I’m just minding my business when I get an email from another PTA board member. The email says “Katie, what’s this?” followed by a couple of sentences from something I was writing.

I’m sure you can all imagine the full body panic that took over me. I immediately wrote her back explaining that I had taken up “creative writing” over the pandemic and it was from something I wrote (the sentences weren’t explicit but it was pretty clear what type of thing they were from). I apologized profusely and said how I had no idea how I could have emailed that to her.

She responded back that it was ok and not to worry, but that I hadn’t emailed it her… I had put those sentences in a shared google doc she had sent out the night before

Cue hyperventilating.

Here’s what happened— she was getting everyone in a leadership role with the PTA to fill out our job descriptions in a Google sheet so that we could start recruiting volunteers for the next school year. I had quickly filled in my responsibilities and remember doing some cut/pasting and the doc being weird about it. Turns out I had cut those sentences from my fic earlier in the day and had accidentally pasted them in the doc.

I was MORTIFIED. She had deleted it from the doc but I was able to see who had been in the document during the time it was there… and it wasn’t just me. No one ever said anything, but I was panicked for a while. She ended up moving out of our district that summer and I haven’t seen her since, which is a shame, I really liked her. She did say that she would like to read more, so I sent her Reunion later that year when I finished it and she enjoyed it.

I was able to laugh about the whole incident pretty quickly and knew it would make a great story one day. Fast forward to spring of 2022– I am finishing my time on the PTA board, we have resumed in-person meetings, and I have been on tumblr for a few months. Four of us go out for drinks after a PTA meeting and start talking pandemic hobbies. I revealed mine. They all wanted to read my stuff but I wasn’t sure they were ready for it. (I didn’t tell the shared document story until I was officially done with the PTA and then only to a few people. It definitely got a good laugh and some dropped jaws when I did)

My writing is an open secret now among my extended friend group. My closest friends (2 of which were at that table when I shared my pandemic hobby. That night was in many ways the start of our friendship) have read some of my stuff and so have some who weren’t there that night.

The third at the table wanted to read but he is a dad and I told him I wouldn’t send smut to another woman’s husband lol, but if he had his wife ask me, I would send it to her and she could decide. That hasn’t happened yet lol. She and I are getting to be friends now and I can’t imagine him admitting to her that he knew about my hobby years ago and wanted to read it. He told me he tried to find my tumblr, but as you all know finding anything on tumblr is a fools errand. He’s never going to find and I don’t think he’s tried since right after that night.

I wanted to use the story as the base of a fic but really struggled with how to do it until one day I had the idea that became Shared Document! The story is a funny one for me, but reader gets a much more satisfying ending 😏

With that, you slip out of the room, yawning as you pass through the doorway. Akaashi watches your figure disappear into the shadows before letting himself slowly drop back to bed.

Carefully push the nursery door open wider, you peek your head inside with a warm smile. “Hello, sweetie.”

At the sound of your voice, your daughter lets out a long, piercing wail. Her limbs kick around, the blanket once covering her now by her feet. Snot and tears stream down her wrinkly bunched up face. You quietly walk over and pick her up from the crib. Her bawling quiets for a few seconds, then starts up again a little louder.

“You’re alright now, Mommy’s here. Mommy’s got you, sweetie.” You gently swing your bodies side to side in an attempt to calm her as you look around for something to wipe her nose. “Where did Mommy leave those tissues, hm?”

She responds back with a bubbly gurgled sob. You let out an airy chuckle at the sound. As if to answer your question, you spin in a circle to see your husband standing in the doorway, a box of tissues in his hand.

“I know you said you didn’t need help, but I can’t sleep knowing something is wrong.” The bags under his eyes are apparent of that fact. Despite this, he raises the box towards you.

You mouth a thank you as you take a tissue. Lightly pinching your daughter’s nose, you squeeze out some of the snot. Her small hand hits your own in protest. After a few swipes, you ball up the dirty tissue and toss it into the trash can situated in the corner.

“There, that has to feel a lot better, right?”

Her whines slowly fade as she sniffs to herself more clearly. The tears once streaming down her chubby cheeks have dried in lines. Her head snuggles comfortably into your chest, warm cheek pressing on your shoulder. You drag the palm of your hand up and down her back soothingly.

“We can sleep now, huh, sweetie.” Your lips press against the top of her head.

Akaashi watches for a few moments longer before pushing off from the doorframe. His socked feet pad across the room to you. You feel his presence behind you, the squeeze of his hand on your hip cementing him there.

Inhaling deeply, you blow out a drawn out sigh. You swivel your body slightly so you can fit closely against his shoulder. “Isn’t she precious?”

He strokes the edge of his index finger across her cheek. “She really is.”

Tranquil silence settles in the nursery as the two of you admire your daughter. Her eyes are closed and her wet lips are puckered out. One hand tightly grips your top, the other cradled between your chest and her own.

You're the first to break the silence, your voice a faint whisper. “I still can’t believe all of this.”

His attention turns towards you. His brows are knit slightly together in question. “What do you mean?”

A smile graces your lips as you crane your head back to meet his eyes. “Our marriage. Our family. This was something we dreamed of, that we fantasized and envisioned for years.” Your eyes drop back down to your little girl. “And we made it come true.”

Akaashi pauses for a few seconds. “We did, didn’t we.”

There’s another moment of silence, this time shorter than the last as you speak up once more.

“Do you remember our three year anniversary?”

“That was the night that changed our lives.”

“I think about it a lot, especially when we're laying together in bed. You had taken me to that one really nice restaurant that we talked endlessly about going to. The night was wrapping up when you reached over and took my hand.”

Your free hand instinctively finds his, your fingers slipping between one another’s. “You gave me this sweet speech about how much you love me and have been so happy that you’ve been able to experience all that we had.”

The memory surfaces and unfolds behind Akaashi’s eyes, like he’s there all over again with you. “You had tears welling in your eyes when I finished.”

“I was crying by the time you were down on one knee. You pulled out the small blue velvet box and showed me the most beautiful ring I have ever seen.” You pause for a moment like you’re trying to remember all the details. “Do you remember what I said when you asked me?”

“How could I forget?” The tip of his fingers runs along the band adorning your ring finger. “It was one of the happiest days of my life.”

You tip your head back and stare up at him. Your eyes are glossy with unshed tears and the corners of your mouth are curled up in a lovesick grin. “Thank you, Keiji, for giving me the best five years of my life. I don’t know of anyone else I’d rather spend forever with.”

His expression mirrors your own as he stares at you. He tips forward and presses a firm kiss to your lips. The two of you hold it for as long as your lungs can allow before breaking apart.

“Thank you, love, for saying yes.”

Suna steps through the front door with an exhausted sigh. Right before he can drop his bag or take his shoes off, he catches sight of you staring at him with a smug smirk.

“Told you I could beat you.”

“Shut up, brat.”

You laugh to yourself as you saunter over to him. Your arms slip around his torso, his own resting just above your rear. You lean in and peck his lips with a smile. “Hey, handsome.”

“Hey, beautiful.” He captures your lips in another kiss, his mouth moving slowly against yours.

The sound of fast heavy footsteps thumping towards the two of you. The two of you pull apart and look to see Suna’s little sister racing towards you, arms outstretched and a large grin on her face. “Y/N!”

“Girly!”

Letting go of your boyfriend, you squat down and scoop her up into your arms. She giggles happily as she holds onto your neck.

“Are you ready to do our spa day?” she asks.

“I sure am. Just give me a few minutes.” You kneel down onto one knee and set her back down onto the ground. She beams up at you, then twirls around and races off. You push yourself back up to standing, a soft smile on your lips.

“Are you really gonna hang out with my little sister?”

Your head snaps around to give him a stern look, eyebrow raised. He loops his arms around your waist from behind as his chin digs lightly into the curve of your shoulder. “You could just hang out with your boyfriend.”

“Rin. I can’t break your little sister’s heart, you saw how happy she was. Plus, it'll be really fun and a good chance to bond.”

“She already likes you, how much more do you need to bond?”

You fail to bite back the smile fighting its way onto your lips once more. Shaking your head, you undo his arms from around your middle and walk towards his little sister’s bedroom. He watches your figure disappear with a small frown.

Silence settles around him as he stands unmoving in his spot, his eyes still trained where he last saw you. He considers letting the two of you be to yourselves, after all, you had planned this without his inclusion. That being said, Suna didn’t care and. With how long practice had been, he was in serious need of your cuddles, whether his little sister liked it or not.

He peeks his head inside the door to her bedroom to find the two of you sitting criss-cross on the floor across from one another. There’s an array of nail polish, face masks, and other beauty products littered in the space between you. You’re giggling amongst yourselves, large grins spread from cheek to cheek.

One of your hands was held in her smaller one. The wand from one of the many nail polish bottles is pinched between her fingers as she messily spreads the brightly colored goop on your nails.

“What the hell are you two even doing?” Suna questions from the doorway.

Your head spins around to look back at him. “A little spa day, obviously. I told you this at the front door, remember?” you tease with a cheeky grin.

Stepping inside, Suna drops himself down behind you. His arms encircle your waist as he nuzzles your neck. “And I said why don’t you hang out with me, your boyfriend, instead?”

His little sister is quick to pout. “No! Me and Y/N are playing together, you can’t steal her from me.” As if to keep you from leaving, she wraps her arms above Suna’s and squeezes you tightly. The siblings glare angrily at one another.

You breathe an airy laugh and pat the top of the little girl’s head. “I’m not gonna leave you, girly.” You look to the side the best you can. “How does this sound? You take a shower then afterwards we can all chill together.”

The two continue the stare down. Suna is the first to break, not having the energy to fight much longer with his younger sibling. Muttering a gruff “Whatever” under his breath, he stands to leave. You toss him a thankful smile before redirecting your attention back to his sister. “Come on, let’s keep painting our nails while we wait.”

An hour or so passes when your boyfriend finally returns, freshly showered and dressed in comfier clothes. The bags under his eyes look darker than you remember. Furthermore, his eyes seem to sag lower than usual.

His little sister is currently attempting to braid your hair, even going so far as to decorate it with colorful hair clips. You do your best to crane your head to face him. “Feeling better?”

He grumbles back something you can’t make out. Wordlessly dragging his feet across the floor, he drops limp beside you. The weight of his head rests on your thighs. He blows out a content sigh as your free hand threads through his hair, nails lightly scratching his scalp.

With his last bit of energy, he mumbles out, “Wake me when you guys are done or whatever. And don’t even think about drawing on me.”

His hands cup your cheeks and bring your mouth to his. His lips press firmly onto yours, nearly pushing you back against the door from sheer impact. You're hardly given much time to kiss him back before he’s pulling away.

“I love you so much, angel.”

“I love you, too.” The smile gracing your features quickly slides off as your eyes take in his nervous expression. “Bubs, is everything alright? What happened?”

“N-Nothing. Um, how was your day, angel?”

You cautiously play along. “It had its moments, but it wasn’t the worst. How was your day?”

He racks his brain for the right words. “It was, uh...it was...good.”

Slipping your hands from his shoulder, you gingerly cup his cheeks. “Kou, talk to me.”

His eyes refuse to meet yours as your gaze chases after his. His chews on his bottom lip as his hands fidget by his sides. The silence between the two of you felt deafening, but he didn’t have the words to fill it. As the stillness drags on, you drop your hands to take a hold of his.

“Why don’t we take a seat, yeah?”

He lets you guide him to the couch and sits down close to you, your knees brushing one another’s. Too afraid to lose your touch, he keeps his hands tightly interlaced with yours. His teeth continue to dig into his bottom lip with enough force to nearly draw blood.

“Can you please tell me what’s eating you up, Kotaro? Whatever it is, I promise to not get mad at you.” You give your intertwined hands an affirming squeeze.

It takes him a moment to find his voice. “I’m really sorry if I’ve scared you, I just…. I have some big news that I’m really nervous to tell you.”

“Alright.” You scoot a little closer to him. “What is the big news, bubs?”

Another pause as he thinks about how to speak his thoughts. “You know how me and the team have been practicing a lot lately, like more than usual.” He waits for you to nod, then continues. “Well, after we finished today, our manager said he had to tell us something.”

This part sat heavily on his tongue. Sucking in a deep breath, he forced the words out of his mouth in a rush. “The Jackals are going to the Japan Olympics.”

Your jaw slacks open in shock, your breath hitching in your throat. “That is...absolutely amazing Kou, I am so beyond happy and proud of you guys!”

Leaping forward from your spot, you throw your arms around his shoulders and hug him tightly against you. He returns the gesture with a stronger grip, his beaming face hidden in the curve of your shoulder.

“Thank you so much, angel,” he mumbles against your skin.

You draw back enough to face him. “Is this why you were so worried?”

He brings a hand up to rub the back of his neck. “I know you’d probably be happy for me, but it’s more than that. I hate the idea of you being in the stands cheering instead of down there playing with your team.”

“Well, you won’t have to.”

His head tilts to the side in visible confusion, brows scrunching together. “What do you mean?”

You bite down on your bottom lip to keep the smile from growing across your lips. “The girls and I made it to the Japan Olympics, too!”

A shocked expression washes over his puzzled features, his mouth slacking open. “Really?”

You shake your head wildly. The grin you were fighting now shines full and bright. “I wanted to tell you sooner, but we both were super busy with practice and were always too tired.”

It’s Bokuto’s turn to bring you flush to his body as he jolts upright from the couch. You squeal, surprised, and quickly grip his shoulders as he spins you around. A matching smile curves up the corners of his mouth.

Your feet find the floor as he carefully sets you back down, his arms still wrapped around you to keep you close to him. He taps his forehead to yours, his shimmering gold eyes staring into yours. A one note laugh escapes past your lips, your own eyes filling with tears.

“We made it, bubs,” you whisper softly into the space between you. “We really made it.”

Bokuto pecks your lips, then brings you gently close to him again, like he’s afraid he might break you if he squeezes you too hard. His hands sweep up and down your back comfortingly. Your fingers trace the curve of his spine. The two of you stand there in the quiet, soaking everything in.

As the two of you stand there in the quiet, one thing is for certain.

No matter how things play out, whether it be winning or losing or somewhere in between, you will be there together.
