-Meri would receive, or rather have placed into her pool, a collapsible spyglass, with a looping strap that could be slung over the shoulder or hung on an arm. No doubt almost immediately it would be noticed by her that it was the exact same density as water, meaning that it would neither sink nor float, staying exactly where it was put, barring any currents. The spyglass itself would seem to be very effective, with mechanical switches on the side that allowed the power to be increased to a remarkably high level, greater than most high-powered, full sized telescopes, or to one near the same level as her regular vision.
