Re: gender bias against the King in T:BEA - I don't know if I agree that it's gender bias, to be honest. And I'm not sure that I've seen anyone deny that he's been through a traumatic experience. The main problem with the King's behavior is that he's using his reaction to trauma to treat his daughter poorly-- his reaction to it is now affecting another person's quality of life. Regardless of how one responds to trauma, it should never be an excuse for cruelty or harm to another.
As Iāve said repeatedly, Iām calling it āgender biasā because of other commentary. Iāve seen people go to great lengths to defend Rapunzelās rights as a woman or as a daughter.
While I agree with the idea that trauma should not be an excuse, Iām going to counter that by pointing out referring to it as āusing his reactionā. That implies intention. Thatās really the whole idea of trauma is that youāre not intentionally doing something in deference to the trauma. Sometimes you canāt help it. He probably doesnāt even fully realize when heās closing the windows around Rapunzel.
Watch his behavior again: heās not trying to hurt her with his restrictions. He doesnāt think heās treating her poorly, so you canāt say heās using his trauma as an excuse to do it. He thinks what heās doing is trying to keep her safe, but because of his trauma of losing her as a baby, he doesnāt understand why his actions are fruitless.
People are going out of their way to talk about Rapunzel having trauma when sheās not really even showing signs of it, and yet the King showing obvious scenes of trauma is getting brushed off like āWell he should just choose to act differently.ā Explain how thatās not whack, and Iāll be happy to consider the point.

What's a really weird head canon you have?
I LOVE THIS SO HARD
But it makes sense, right?! The lantern festival was basically praying to her, and now that sheās home, everyone adores and reveres her! Itās such goddess behavior!
