Heck, we have seen Rowena pull the same flirty flirty with Gabriel, you know? No emotional attachment at all. I think they were doubling down on that, because that’s been Rowena’s sole source of emotional comfort from men (and women, if we remember the subtext of 12.11) for like... ever.

But something is SUPER DIFFERENT about her relationship with Sam. And I think they really wanted to hammer that home before 15.03.

The man fated to kill her, ready to let the world die to save her? I mean COME ON that sounds like the tagline for the Lifetime Movie Of The Week.

Insert Rowena choosing to sacrifice herself FOR SAM and FOR THE WHOLE WORLD, and either *insert author choice depending on how long they wanna drag this out* living DESPITE it but seriously broken as a result, or else dying tragically and Sam watching over her hoping her resurrection spell will bring her back... until it does...

Shortly after facing what they thought to be the end of the world, Sam, Dean and Castiel are surprised when Amara, Chuck and Lucifer vanish without a trace. With no leads in sight and the end of the world temporarily on hold,Castiel branches off on his own, to investigate an leads elsewhere. 

When Dean calls him with a hunt that Castiel has knowledge with, a biblical case in a small town in Wyoming. Castiel agrees to tag along in an attempt to be useful. What they both don’t realize is how much more complex the case will be and how they finally be given the chance to truly talk to one another.

I mean, personally I still head canon a separation due to the Destiel storyline but I don't know how they will do it if so. Death is easy and means pining!Dean and a reconciliation which will be ace. But eh, I dunno, it’s a bit old hat now right?

I thought we were aiming for a “new, better way...” let’s see...

I love when shit heads talk trash and then block people. It makes them feel big and bad for getting in the last word.  BUT these are the same idiots that get pissy when we block THEM because THEY don’t know when to shut up.

I’M SO GLAD SAM IS FINALLY FREE OF THAT WOUND.

I’ve felt like he hasn’t truly been free of Chuck’s... I wouldn’t call it control, because obviously Sam was defiant directly to Chuck’s face, and much to Chuck’s consternation (bless him, Sam is wonderful like that :’D). But nothing about that connection was in any way good for Sam, either. It was like... Mark of Cain Junior. MoC Lite. Diet MoC. And nothing good was coming from it.

Yes, that connection helped Sam piece together Chuck’s process, and it did keep Chuck weakened for a while. But it also was actively hurting Sam. And another reason I’m glad Sam stopped that spell from being cast was because if Sam’s soul had remained connected to Chuck if Chuck had been locked away by a mark, what would’ve happened to Sam as a result?

So yeah, I feel like for the first time since 14.20, Sam is actually free, with his agency restored. And poor Eileen, used from start to finish by Chuck-- from being sent to Hell to serve Chuck’s s12 narrative with the Men of Letters (since Chuck claimed that one for himself, I’m giving him the credit he thought he deserved for that), to being pulled out of Hell and sent to the bunker specifically to seduce Sam for Chuck’s entertainment (just like Lilith was supposed to seduce Dean in the episode before Eileen returned. Lilith failed for obvious reasons, but in retrospect she now feels like Chuck’s “practice run” for Eileen’s success in 15.06). And that’s not even mentioning her literal puppeting in 15.09 to directly, physically hurt Sam. Because OWWWWW.

She had the full experience of complete loss of her own agency, and now it’s been restored, and she still doesn’t know what, if anything, she’s been through is actually real. So Sam gave her a kiss, while both of them were free, while they both had their agency restored, and she still left. But Sam offered her something real in that moment. The only thing he could.

Will Eileen return? Possibly. But if she does, it will be because she CHOSE to (hopefully!). It would also be to explore the possibility of making their relationship real in the future, of finally building a real foundation for a post-series relationship, out of their own free will, and not because Chuck wanted to see them smooch before ripping them both apart for the manpain. Because that’s Chuck’s story.

I KNOW, RIGHT?!

CHUCK, THE AUTHOR-INSERT CHARACTER, DELIBERATELY KEPT THEM SEPARATED THEM UNTIL AFTER HE UNDID THE TRUTH THING. The author is FULLY AWARE of their nonsense, and knows that if they’re gonna fanfic these guys into a truth serum situation, it’ll literally take five minutes for them to resolve all their conflicts and then they’d spend the rest of the episode locked in a broom closet making up for lost time...

As far as I know they still have the gun, unless Chuck decided it was too dangerous for them to keep and poofed it away.

But you’re right. The gun doesn’t HAVE to kill. It could theoretically do whatever the “shooter” wanted.

A weapon that uses a concept isn’t just for killing. It’s a game changer, and could theoretically give them whatever they want, if only they realize that…

I mean, you see a gun– especially guys like Sam and Dean who’ve been using guns their entire lives– and KNOW that guns typically have one purpose, to shoot and kill. It’s like Dean figuring out that nobody could lie anymore at the beginning of the episode, and testing the theory by asking Sam about his favorite singer. Way to prove his theory AND learn something harmless about Sam. But the point is, Dean found the loophole, gained self-awareness, and that helped him navigate his way out of that situation before everything went to heck like it did in the other people at that office. People who weren’t aware of what was actually happening to them and were therefore powerless to save themselves from it.

Kind of a nice metaphor for why they don’t tell the general public about the monsters, you know? The general public is just not equipped to handle the truth. :’D

But back to that gun… my guess is that because it’s basically a Creation Machine, even though it looks like an implement of destruction, that Chuck pulled it off the playing field when he booped out.

I think the whole point of the exercise is that in the end, it’s never going to come down to a self-sacrifice to save the world. That was Swan Song, and that was never an acceptable ending. But Dabb putting the Swan Song gun on the playing field and giving them a chance to “kill the devil but also killing themselves in the process” and then having them REJECT that story? Yeah, he just undid 5.22, also.

(I mean, not that he made it as if it never happened, but that he said NAH, THIS ISN’T WHAT THE END OF THE ROAD SHOULD LOOK LIKE. THIS ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH. And isn’t that BEAUTIFUL?!)

Heck I need a tag for the gun, and I don’t like Chuck’s suggestions: The Equalizer, and the Hammurabi. They’re accurate– it equalizes the shooter and the shoot-ee, and it delivers “eye for an eye” justice– but they lack a sort of meta flair…
