Sakusa is a stoic dude, but one who has a ton of [ missed? ] potential. idk if Furudate had other plans for his high school team at nationals [ i mean, the entirety of Haikyuu!! is pretty much perfect as is - what with the themes of innate talent vs. perseverance, the importance of self care, love for your family, friends & teammates, and that all of us, no matter who we are, will experience defeat & thatâs never the end of our story ] but they would have been such an interesting matchup for Karasuno!Â
Itachiyama, to me, represents a culmination of what Karasuno has battled against in pieces throughout the entire series. most of the teams represented raw or unpredictable offensive power [ see: Shiratorizawa & Inarizaki ] or defensive prowess [ see: Nekoma, Date Tech & Kamomedai ] *side note: the only exception to this is Aoba Johsai, who, IMO, come close to what Itachiyama represents in terms of an all around power-house team- their loss to Karasuno was a mixture of pure bad luck & stress. Â
but Itachiyama, from the glimpses weâve seen, is a team that puts all of those pieces together. they have one of the top 3 aces in the nation [ Sakusa ] & the best high school libero, according to Volleyball Monthly [ Motoya ] on their team & theyâre known for their attention to detail [ as we see with Sakusa & team captain Iizuna - who both demonstrate their commitment to followthrough & âdoing things properlyâ ] as well as their powerful use of both offense and defense. *side note: like, seriously, i donât think any of their recorded games have gone into the 30 point mark, these guys SHUT IT DOWN around 25 points.Â
while many teams in Haikyuu!! have players who can act as an assist on their shortcomings [ see: Tsukishima for Karasuno, Hoshiumi for Kamomedai, or Suna for Inarizaki ] they often focus on the opposite (weaker) points, i.e. Karasuno is known for their quick attack & rogue playing style, not their defense, so Tsukishima (grumpily) fills in that all important void.Â
with Itachiyama & the way they were built up as the âshoe-inâ champion for the 2013 nationals, it feels like they might have been able to successfully stopgap Karasunoâs erratic attacks & overwhelm them with their cautious, but decisive playing style. essentially, they look like theyâd be a mix of Nekomaâs steady defense combined with the raw offensive power of Shiratorizawa - in other words, a wretched line up for Karasuno & a team that they would have undoubtedly struggled against.Â
ahem. SO.
i am sorry this wandered into a strange realm, but long story short - i think that Sakusa was a major player who happened to be sidelined due to focus on other themes/plot-lines & i want to try and flesh out what i see/interpret in his character & bring that forward with Latibule.Â
right now things are going smoothly, but that wonât always be the case [ i can only imagine the stress that both being & dating a professional athlete must come with ]Â and i hope i can keep his voice consistent &Â âtrueâ as i continue on with this mini adventure.Â
