Summary: Just having discovered your abilities as a warlock, you’re still not at ease in the world of magic, Downworlders and Shadowhunters. With Magnus as guidance, you quickly bond with Isabelle Lightwood, who makes it her mission to show you the ‘fun side’ of New York. At one of your night outs, you meet a handsome stranger, who isn’t what he seems.
*I’ve posted this one before, but for some reason my tags didn’t work, so I hope they will this time, because I think it’s the sixth time I’ve tried already.
A/N: Hello there. No, I did not slip into a coma, nor did I move somewhere without wifi (the thought alone makes me shudder). I just couldn’t seem to write this one, and I didn’t feel comfortable posting something I don’t like myself. I had the general idea stuck in my head, but the right words didn’t seem to come out, if that makes sense? Anyways, I’ll stop rambling now, and as always, I hope you’ll like it.
Prompts: “It was a mistake coming here.” – “You know, if you wanted my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.” – “You see what I have to deal with every day?”

“I can’t go out wearing this! I have underwear showing less skin!” You almost shrieked when you saw what Izzy had brought you as an outfit to wear on a night out to Pandemonium.
She frowned at you. “Oh, come on. You look amazing.”
You tugged self-consciously at the skirt of the thing Izzy called a dress while looking at yourself in the mirror, and pouted your lips a bit in doubt. You let out a sigh. “I guess I’m ready to go then.” You pursed your lips.
“Can you try to surpass my brother on the enthusiasm scale?” She raised her perfectly done eyebrow.
“I heard that!” You could hear Alec from the room next to yours.
You rolled your eyes and let out a sigh, before putting on a fake smile. “Let’s go party, so you can find some irresistible cute guy and I can go home alone. Yay.” you raised one fist in the air.
She let out a sigh herself. “Good enough for me.”
You walked out of your room into Magnus’ living room, when Magnus noticed what you were wearing.
“You look fabulous.” You tried not to blush, and failed miserably. “You know what would make it better?” he asked as a rhetorical question, and swirled a bit with one hand, making some jewelry appear on you.
“Now you’re ready to go.” he smiled warmly at you.
You looked down in awe to admire the necklace you were now wearing. “You’ve got to teach me how to do that.”
But Izzy quickly took your hand in hers. “Okay, but tonight, we’re going out first.” She dragged you towards the door, not giving you the chance to bail on her before the night out even started.
➳
It was Saturday, and Pandemonium was filled with people. The music was vibrating through your body, the sound muted in your ears thanks to some earplugs as you tried to find a way back to where you had agreed to meet up again with Izzy, in between all the dancing and sweaty bodies, carrying a drink in your hand. The different colored lights were flickering through the dark room, making it even more difficult for you to find your way.
You weren’t really keen on coming at first, much rather preferring to be at home, where it was possible to have conversations without having to yell.
But since you’ve walked through the door of the club, you actually had to admit you were having fun. Izzy always knew how to make you smile, and the alcohol was doing a good job with your mood as well.
“Whoops!” you exclaimed, when you bumped into someone, making you spill some of the liquid out of the cup you were holding, watching it fall on the ground.
“Damn.” you murmured, silently cursing to yourself. But what did you expect when you walked through a club filled with people, carrying a full cup of alcohol?
“I’m so sorry, are you all right?” you looked up to see who that voice belonged to, only to become speechless when you locked eyes with him. He seemed to be mesmerized as well, until you suddenly realized you had been staring at him, so you quickly shook your head to gather your thoughts.
“Oh, uhm, yeah, I’m fine.” you managed to stammer.
He seemed to be way more comfortable in this sort of situation as you, as a smirk appeared on his lips. “Are you perhaps a magician? Because when I look at you, everyone else seems to disappear.” He looked satisfied with himself for that masterpiece, but you still weren’t thinking straight and swallowed hard at his question. Maybe you had had a bit too much of alcohol already. You arched your eyebrows in confusion, before you moved a bit closer towards the stranger, trying not to attract too many people’s attention.
“How did you know?” you hissed, confused how he knew about you, especially since you barely knew about it yourself.
Now it was his time to look confused. “Wait, what?”
As if on cue, just in time to get you out of this mess, Izzy appeared from behind him. “There you are, I thought you—,” she paused when she saw you weren’t alone, “oh,” she added when she recognized him, “Raphael.”
“Isabelle.” He said, in the same bored tone as her.
You quietly sipped from the remaining alcohol in your cup while watching the interaction between the two of them. “So I guess you two know each other then.”
“We know each other,” he affirmed, still in a lightly indifferent tone, “but I still haven’t had the pleasure of learning your beautiful name.” He added in a warmer tone, using his most charming smile.
“Y/N.” you answered warily, his words not really getting through to you.
Unaware Izzy was staring at you, fixating her gaze alternatively between you and Raphael with a smug look on her face, she decided it was time to interrupt. “Well, as beautiful as that name is, I’m really sorry to have to say this but we have to go.”
“What? Why?” You raised your eyebrows because you were actually having fun for once.
“Alec called, something’s wrong and I have to be there.” She saw your questioning look. “And I promised to get you home safely.”
You let out a sigh, disappointed, and turned back your gaze at Raphael. “Guess that’s my cue to go. It was nice meeting you, Raphael.”
He gave you a warm smile. “The pleasure was all mine. Until we meet again.”
➳
Izzy had managed to not bring it up while walking you home, but when you almost reached your destination, she couldn’t resist it anymore. “So… What was going on there?”
You looked at her, confusion written all over your face. “What? Where?”
“Oh, come on, Y/N. Raphael was all over you.” She said it like it was a known fact, which it wasn’t. At least not for you.
“No he wasn’t.” You said incredulous.
She gave you a stern look. “How can you be so oblivious?”
“He was just being polite.” You stated. “I accidentally bumped into him.”
She raised her eyebrows and gave you a smug look. “Trust me, I know that vamp. And he was totally flirting with you.”
And even though you still wouldn’t admit it, you couldn’t help but smile at the thought of it.
➳
“That was my blanket, but thank you for drooling all over it.” You talked to the cat like he would talk back to you, as you came back from the kitchen with a cup of tea, seeing Chairman Meow doing his thing on the blanket you were previously calling yours.
He laid himself comfortably on the blanket, leaving just enough room for you to squeeze yourself next to the cat.
When you sat down, he stretched his paw onto your lap. You looked at him, but he just looked back at you with the most indifferent look he could give you.
You decided to just turn on the television, so you could finally start watching that one episode you missed by going out the day before, but thankfully recorded it to watch later.
After only five minutes of getting to watch the show, you heard the doorbell.
You paused the show, and got off the couch with a sigh.
When you opened the door, you let out a small gasp when you saw a figure laying barely conscious right in front of the door.
Your eyes went wide when you recognized the person. “Raphael?” You quietly asked, even though you had a bad feeling it really was him.
All you get as response was a groan, and you crouched down to inspect further what was going on with him, just as he opened his eyes with hesitation, having trouble with the movement.
“Y/N?” Your name came out of his mouth as a groan as well. You quickly looked around to see if anyone was around to see you, but luckily, there was no one paying attention to you.
Putting your arm as support under his, you were gladly he seemed to regain consciousness, and got the hint to work with you as you tried to get him inside.
“I thought I was at Magnus’ place.” He manages to get out, as you shoo the cat off of the couch to make room for him. It’s only when you finally get him on the couch you see how severe his wounds are.
“What happened?” You almost yell in shock. You didn’t understand how he wasn’t knocked out, unconscious.
“Some — agh, stupid werewolves.” He let out a hiss of pain when he moved to lay on his back. “Apparently, being the leader of the New York vampire clan makes you very wanted on their ‘to kill’-list.”
You notice his teared shirt and winced. “I’m sorry, but if you want my help, you’ll need to remove your shirt so I can examine the wounds.”
He slowly reaches to pull his shirt over his head. “At least buy me dinner first.” He groans, his body aching from the movement.
“Glad you’re still feeling well enough for some banter.” You inspect his many wounds, and decide the large one accross his chest and abs was the urgent one, but started to panic when you realized you had actually no idea what you were doing.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing here, since I’ve never actually done this and—.”
He cut off your rambling and muttered some encouraging words. “I trust you. Besides, you’re my best chance right now.”
You needed a moment to focus again after hearing those words, but after taking a deep breath, you closed your eyes and hovered your hands above the wound, willing the magic to flow out of your hands, healing him with power you didn’t even knew you had.
Apparently, it took more out of you then you expected. When the wound was as good as healed, you felt yourself weaken, stumbling forward. Lucky for you, Raphael caught you just in time to spare you from an awkward position. Your eyes widen when you find yourself mere inches from his now perfect abs.
Sadly for you, you’ve always had the tendency to make jokes when things got awkward. Which, most of the time, made things even more awkward.
“You know, if you wanted my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.”
He didn’t seem to take it as a joke. “Maybe you’re worth the extremes.” His gaze never let go of your eyes, in what seemed like forever. You weren’t sure it had been hours, or maybe just a couple of seconds, because you got lost in his as well.
“It was a mistake coming here.” He whispered gently.
“What? Why?”
“Because now I don’t want to leave anymore.”
You gave him a shy smile, not really sure how to process his words, but he certainly didn’t seem to have a problem with that, as he moved closer towards you, pushing some hair out of your face behind your ear. Your breath hitched in your throat as his hand made contact with your face. He patiently waited for you to make the next move, to let him know this was something you wanted as well.
You slowly moved closer, your gaze wandering from his beautiful dark eyes to his lips, and back, until you were close enough to close your eyes, feeling his proximity as your lips almost touched.
But right before they did, you heard some noise in the hallway, and you quickly pulled back.
“Raphael? What the hell happened to you? You look terrible.” Magnus asked the vampire, who, truth be told, didn’t seem like his normal, poised self.
“Woah, thanks a lot.” Raphael retorted sarcastically.
“And you.” He turned his attention towards you. “I leave you alone for a couple of hours and you managed to find a vampire that’s bleeding. All over my loft, may I add.”
“I guess I’ll leave you to discuss that.” Raphael gave you a sad smile as he stood up from the couch, making his way towards the door. “Thanks for,” he hesitates for a moment, trying to find the right word, “everything.” You just smile as you watch him leave.

You weren’t sure what you were doing here, standing in front of Hotel Dumort. For this reason, you were dreading walking in, as you couldn’t explain why you felt the need to come here.
“Hey, you must be Y/N.” You almost jumped when you suddenly heard a voice from behind you.
When you turned around, you saw a teenage boy staring at you. You frowned, as you didn’t seem to know him. “How did you knew that?”
He smirked. “Raphael can’t stop talking about Y/N, the amazingly beautiful girl he met and saved his life.” You blushed at his words. “Well, and I saw you once with Izzy.” He added.
Suddenly you realized who he was. “Oh, you’re Simon, right?”
He gave you a smile. “That’s me. So, if you don’t mind asking me, what are you doing here?”
You pouted your lips a bit. “Can you believe I’m not sure?”
“Well, if you want, I can take you to Raphael.” You just nod, and he lets you into the hotel. He leads you down the hall, and after taking some turns, you arrive at what seems like a living room. Or, well, whatever it’s called when it’s the living room of the actual living dead.
Raphael’s head popped up when he heard you enter. “Y/N? What are you doing here?” He asked, furrowing his brows in confusion, obviously not expecting you here.
“Uhm…” You hadn’t thought this far ahead, still not sure why you came.
Luckily for you, Simon interrupted you with a little lie. “She came here to check if there weren’t any side affects of her magic.”
“Yeah.” You quickly nodded. “Yep, that’s what I’m here for.”
“Well, I don’t think there’s any side effects.” He answered, still confused.
“If you don’t count the way he has been talking about you.” Simon teased, looking sideways at you, making you blush again.
“Simon!” Raphael sneered.
“Seriously though, you’ve definitely put him under your spell.” This time, he even winked at you, making you laugh a bit at his awful pun.
“Get out Simon!” Raphael quickly yelled before the boy embarrassed him even more. He lightly shook his head when Simon left. “You see what I have to deal with every day?”
You shrugged. “I think it’s kind of cute.”
“Well, I really did enjoyed yesterday though.” He gave you a sincere smile.
You raised one eyebrow at him. “You almost died yesterday.”
“Hmm, I did?” He slowly made his way towards you. “Something else must have happened which made me forget about that part.” He said smugly.
You couldn’t help but smile either. “Something else, huh?”
“Something we perhaps could continue today…” He was still slowly coming towards you, moving closer, inch by inch, until he stood right in front of you.
“Well, where were we last time?” You asked, feeling a sudden boost of confidence.
“Somewhere,” he gently placed his hand under your chin, “right about,” moving closer towards your lips, making you close your eyes in anticipation, “here.” He whispered, as his lips finally touched yours.

A/N: I’m about to leave on a trip to Amsterdam. I’m hoping to get some writing done, but I can’t promise anything. I hope you’ll like this one.

“Ugh.” You let out a deep sigh and let yourself fall onto the sofa, leaning your head backwards. You stared at the ceiling for a couple of seconds, before closing your eyes.
“That bad huh?” You opened your eyes to see Raphael staring in your eyes from above you, trying not to smile.
“Can you remind me once more why I thought this would be a good idea?” You asked, still leaning your head backwards, looking up at him.
He moved to come sit besides you on the couch, making you turn your head so you were laying on your ear, still not lifting your head up.
“For the record, I never said taking evening classes was a good idea.” He leaned his arm against the couch, and rested his head against his hand.
You closed your eyes and let out another sigh. “I know, it’s just,” you paused, searching for the right words, but Raphael finished your thoughts for you. “You never got the chance while you were human, I know.” He looked at you with sorrow in his eyes. “I get it, I died at fifteen. I missed out on a lot of things as well.”
You looked away from his eyes, not wanting to show the pity you felt for him, as it would only make the situation even worse.
You lifted your head up just a bit. “Raphael,” you silently started, but you got interrupted when the new guy walked in.
“Wow, who died in here?” Simon said when he felt the vibe in the room, making Raphael glare at him, while you just looked at him out of the corner of your eyes.
“Wrong crowd.” He muttered when he saw your expressions.
You lifted your head when you thought about something. “You’re smart, right?” You asked suddenly, making both of the guys look at you.
“Uhm, I guess?” He said, sounding insecure.
“Is there a chance you could help me with my statistics class?” You asked hopeful.
“Sure.” He grinned.
“Actually,” Raphael added from beside you, “could you help him as well? You know, some training and vamp 101 stuff.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Vamp 101 stuff?”
Raphael rolled his eyes. “You know what I mean.”
“Sure.” You gave Simon a small smile, and turned your gaze back at Raphael. “By the time we’ll be done with each other, I’ll be a mathematical genius, and he’ll be the best vampire you’ve ever seen.”
Raphael let out a small snort. “Sure.” He nodded while being sarcastic. “Be sure to be back by five.”

Simon scrunched his nose while the corners of his lips pointed down, eyeing the packet you were offering him.
“No thank you, I’m not hungry.” he politely declined your offer.
“Simon, you don’t take this when you’re hungry, you do it before you’re hungry, so you don’t have the urge to kill innocent people.”
He cautiously took the bag of blood from you, and slowly smelled it. “Can’t we drink animal blood?”
You raised your eyebrow. “Do I look like Kristen Stewart to you?” He shook his head. “This is the real world, where we drink human blood.”
He still eyed the bag with a slightly disgusted look on his face. “You can’t tell me this wasn’t weird the first time you had to learn this.”
“Of course it was weird. I was a vegetarian before I turned into this.” You moved your hand in circular motions to emphasize what you meant by ‘this’.
“Then how did you manage to get past it?” He asked with genuine interest.
You just shrugged. “I convinced myself it was better than going berserk and actually killing someone.”
He still looked at the bag with disgust. “Can I at least have a straw?”
“Simon, it’s not a fucking capri sun. Drink it.”
He frowned. “But I guess if you think it will be easier with a straw, I’ll find you a straw.” You said, making his expression lighten up immediately.
➳
After some more time with Simon, teaching him more about his physical abilities, and him explaining the basics of statistics in a way your professor never could, you finally made your way back towards the hotel when you saw it was almost 5.
“Hey, can I ask you something?” Simon suddenly asked from beside you. You just hummed in confirmation.
“How come you’re such good friends with Raphael?” You turned your head to look at Simon, only to see he was already looking at you.
“Hasn’t anyone told you how I became a vampire?” Even vampires liked to gossip about each other from time to time, but he just shook his head.
“Well, it’s not exactly a pretty story.” You waited a couple of seconds, and since he didn’t respond, you started telling your story.
“I had just graduated from high school, when I moved here. I got accepted to Columbia, and I wanted to get to know the city I was about to call my new home.” You smiled at the thought of calling the big city your home.
“I met a friend who was really sweet to me, and offered to show me around. After about two weeks, he started to change his behavior, but I was just glad I had found a friend, so I told myself nothing was going on. Until one night, I went out, going to the place we were supposed to meet, when I got attacked from behind. Turns out, my new friend didn’t like the fact I had a boyfriend, and felt like I was stringing him on, so he stabbed me, and tried to—” You coughed, not wanting to finish that sentence.
“By the time Raphael had found me, I was unconscious, as good as dead. When I ask him about his side of the story, he always tells me about how he couldn’t let me die that day, because it wasn’t my time yet. That it wasn’t up to some asshole to decide it was my day to die.” Simon was looking at you with big eyes. You could see the pity in his eyes, but you didn’t need it, because you were happy with what you had now.
“Funny thing,” you added, letting out a humorless laugh, “I didn’t even have a boyfriend, just an older brother at home I called regularly.” You gave him a sad smile, thinking about the family you could never face again.
“So I’m probably the only person that looks at him and doesn’t see the ruthless, killing vampire everyone else sees. I see the broken teenage boy who risked breaking the rules to give a lost teenage girl a second chance at life.” And you were happy to call Raphael your first true friend in New York.
He seemed to think about your words. “I never even thought about it like that.”
“Glad I could help giving you a new perspective.” You smiled warmly at him. “I’ve got to say, I was having a really bad night tonight, but you’ve helped me through it.”
He gave you a smile. “Glad my death brought something good after all.”
You and Simon had been bonding during the night, and you were glad you made a new friend.
You both walked past an alleyway, when you heard a sound. “Hey fanger!” A werewolf appeared out of the dark.
“Get lost, mutt.” You grunted at him, giving him a warning to not mess with you.
Suddenly, a second one came out of nowhere. “Didn’t think so, bloodsuckers.”
You narrowed your eyes, ready to fight them. “Wrong day to piss me off.”
➳
“You have any idea how worried I was? It’s way past 5 and—” Raphael stopped talking when he saw you walking in. Your arm rested on Simon’s, who was supporting you. “Y/N? What happened? You look awful.” He said, sounding very concerned.
You raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Are you hitting on me? Because, if you are, I must say you’re flirting technique sucks.” You let yourself fall on the couch for the second time that night.
“There were some rogue werewolves, none from here.” Simon answered when you didn’t.
“Some werewolves did this? And where were you?” he asked Simon.
“I called Clary!” He said in his defense.
Raphael narrowed his eyes at him, angry he ran in stead of stay with you. “And you just left her on her own?”
“Well, I’m sorry, Raphael. My weekend plans did not involve dying.” He seemed to realize something, before adding “Again.”
“You are unbelievable!” He yelled at him.
“Hey, hey, sick vampire here, some blood would be welcome.” You reminded them.
“I’ll get it.” Simon said, a bit pissed off Raphael was so mad at him, glad to be able to leave the room for a while.
You weren’t as glad, since Raphael’s anger was not directed towards you.“What were you thinking?”
“Clearly, I wasn’t thinking.” You let out a sigh. “You know today isn’t the best day for me.”
That didn’t seem to lessen his anger.“You could’ve died.”
“But I didn’t.”
“This isn’t a joke, Y/N.” He threw his hands in the air.
“Raphael, I know you once saved me from my death, and I’ll be forever gratefull for that second chance, but—”
He narrowed his eyes at you again. “But what? You can’t do this”
You had no idea why he was acting like this. “Relax Raphael, I’m all right. Why are you making such drama about this?” You furrowed your brows in confusion, since you’ve never known him to act this way when someone else got hurt, or even worse.
“Because of this.” He leaned down to where you were sitting, gently placing his palm under your chin, while his fingertips touched your cheek. You could tell his mind was fighting a war, as his gaze wandered between your eyes and your lips, before deciding your lips were his destination.
You felt his lips lightly brush against yours, and you closed your eyes. Your lips parted the tiniest bit in reflex, giving Raphael the chance to kiss you. You could feel the sensation running through your body for the briefest couple of seconds, before he moved his head back slowly, carefully, afraid it would ruin the moment.
“Wow.” You whispered, barely audible.
“I know.” He said just as silent as you.
Suddely, the moment got ruined when you heard a cough, so you turned towards the door, only to see Simon holding up a bag of blood.
“So, I found the blood.” He grimaced.
“I uhm, I have to go.” Raphael suddenly said, not leaving you the chance to say anything at all in response.
It went silent in the room as you took the bag out of Simon’s hands, and started drinking. You could feel yourself heal immediately, and when you had almost downed the whole bag, Simon started talking.
“So I thought you guys were just friends.”
“We are. We were. I don’t know.” You furrowed your brows, slightly in anger with Raphael for leaving so abbruptly. “I thought so too.”
He gave you a small smile. “If it helps, I actually think you’d be great together.”
“You do?” You asked with a hint of surprise, and even hope in your voice.
“I can’t believe you’ve never noticed the way he is around you. He seems actually happy when you’re around.” He gave you a genuine smile now. “And I know how you think the world of him.” He reminded you of your words from earlier. “You should really talk.”
➳
From the moment you had woken up the next night, the first thing you did was try to find Raphael. You looked for him in the most obvious places first, and when you didn’t find him there, you even went looking outside of the hotel. When you came back an hour later, no luck in finding him, you went straight to your room, where you finally found Raphael, who you must’ve missed when you went out searching for him.
“We need to talk.”
Your eyes never left his. “How long have you been feeling this way?”
He let out a deep sigh. “Since the night we met.”
“Yeah, I bet I seduced you with all that blood that was gushing out of me while I lay there, dying.” You remembered he was a vampire, so maybe it actually had. “Wait, did it?”
He smiled at your question. “As delicious your blood smelled that night, it wasn’t the first time we met.” He saw your brows furrowing, so he continued as an explanation. “The night we met for the first time, you bumped into me. I barely felt it, but I knew you were special when you started apologizing, insisting it was your fault, that you weren’t paying attention. This is New York City, no one apologizes and takes the blame for something that trivial. So it wasn’t exactly a coincidence I was there the night you died.”
You raised an eyebrow. “So you were stalking me.”
“I wasn’t stalking you. I was keeping an eye on you without you knowing it.” He explained.
“Sounds like the definition of stalking to me.” You smirked. “Thank you.” You genuinly ment it.
He just gave you a quick smile in response. “So what do we do now?”
“Well, now,” you said, inching closer towards where he was standing, “I would really like to do this.” You came to a halt right in front of him, making it possible to kiss him. You could feel his lips turning upwards when he started smiling, and you couldn’t help but smile too. You pushed him backwards, until his legs hit your couch and he fell on it, so you could take advantage of the moment and make out with him on your couch. After a minute or so, when your hand travelled over his chest under his shirt, you tried to pull his shirt up to take it off, but his hand rested on yours, trying to stop you.
“What’s wrong?”
“As much as I really want to keep doing this,—” you cut him of. “I can tell.” You smirked and waggled your eyebrows. “Can you blame me? But I actually did have a surprise for you.”
“Well, last time someone surprised me, I died, so the bar is set relatively low.” You joked. He pointed towards something behind you, making you turn your head.
“You got me a computer?” You asked, confused.
He just smiled. “Turn it on.”
You turned it on, and saw the contacts where opened. You saw a bunch of familiar numbers, until your eyes found the name. You turned around to look at Raphael. “What—”
“I thought, since its still 10 pm, and technically still your brother’s birthday today, you could call him.” He gave you a reassuring smile. You returned it with an unsure one.
You placed the cursor on the right button to call, letting the mouse go, hand hovering, having an inner debate if you would call or not, before deciding to click anyway.
“I’ll, uhm,—” Raphael started, pointing towards your door, wanting to give you some privacy.
“Stay.” You took hold of his wrist. “Please.”
Your gaze turned towards the screen again when you heard a very familiar voice say your name.“Y/N?”
You smiled. “Happy birthday! Surprise!” You grimaced a bit, feeling caught off guard.
Your brother’s face lit up. “Thanks. I’ve got to get mom, don’t go anywhere!” You looked at Raphael out of your peripheral vision, giving him a small smile.
“Honey, is that really you?” Your mom’s voice echoed through the speakers.
“Mom. I’m so sorry I didn’t come home for a while.”
“I’m so glad to see you. Who’s that with you?”
You turned your gaze at Raphael, smiling. “Guys, this is Raphael. My boyfriend.”
And all you could hear the next 15 seconds was your mom’s excited squeal.
Summary: Since you’ve gotten hurt on your last mission, Alec’s behavior changed towards you. Preventing you from being a Shadowhunter and doing what you love, you slowly start to feel lost.
A/N: I know this has been long overdue, but this week has been crazy. There was the Stydia kiss we had been waiting for for years, I went to a Bastille concert, got Ed Sheeran tickets, and finally, after 3 years of trying, I managed to get tickets for Tomorrowland. So clearly, I needed time to process all of this, and I can only hope your week has been as amazing as mine was.
Prompts: “I fall for the worst ones.” – “Stop blaming me for all the stupid things you do.” – “I am here to grace you with my presence.”

“What do you mean, I can’t come along on the mission?” You crossed you arms and frowned.
“Well, I can’t really make it any clearer, can I? You’re not going on the mission.” He emphasized.
“That’s not fair!” You scowled at him. “What did I do?”
He sighted, knowing you weren’t going to let this go. “You got hurt last time, remember?”
“Oh come on, that was weeks ago.” You were fuming with anger at how unreasonable he was being. “I was barely bleeding!”
“Broken bones don’t bleed, Y/N.” Alec reasoned with you. “You are not coming with us.”
You narrowed your eyes at him before giving up. “Fine!” you grunted, storming towards your room.
➳
You watched the flickering light above the door and let out a breath before knocking on the door, only to be greeted with the pair of brown eyes you were hoping to see.
“Y/N,” Simon smiled at you, “what are you doing here?”
“I am here to grace you with my presence.” You smirked.
“You were banned from going on the mission, didn’t you?” He smirked as well, making yours drop.
“Yeah.” You grumbled.
He held the door open for you.
“Come on in.”
➳
You had been staying with the vampires for a couple of hours, spending some time with Simon, who had become a friend of yours over the couple of months. Needing to rant about how unreasonable Alec was being lately, you had almost been talking the whole time.
“And last week, he wouldn’t even let me go on a recon mission. I feel like he just wants me to sit in my room, doing absolutely nothing and I hate it.” You were sitting on the opposite side of Simon,
“Finally! Your friend stopped talking!” Raphael cheered from the other side of the room, laying on the couch. “What are you even doing here?”
You narrowed your eyes at him. “I could ask you the same question.” you said, wanting some time alone with your friend, which he wasn’t.
“I live here.” he retorted.
“Touché.” You looked back at Simon, suddenly feeling hungry. “Hey, you’ve got something to eat?”
He pursed his lips. “Sorry, all we’ve got is a 19-year-old virgin, and a 27-year-old musician.”
“Sorry I asked.” You scrunched your nose, not wanting to know more.
Suddenly, you heard a loud knock on the door. “I guess I’ll get it then.” Simon mumbled when Raphael didn’t move.
“Where is Y/N?” You heard an all too familiar voice yell, making you sigh and roll your eyes. You were so not in the mood for a lecture from him.
“Well, if it isn’t the 19-year-old virgin.” Raphael muttered from his corner, making you smile just a little bit.
“Hey Y/N,” Simon grimaced, “look who’s here.”
“Y/N. I’ve been looking everywhere for you, and this is where you’re at?” Alec was staring at you with fire in his eyes.
“Welcome at the shelter for runaway Shadowhunters.” Raphael exclaimed, still not having moved from his position.
You rolled your eyes at Raphael’s statement. “Well, not for long anymore, because we were just heading out.” You forced a smile at Alec, taking Simon by his arm.
“We were?” Simon asked, looking at you. You just glared back. “I mean, yeah, we are.” He tried to fix his mistake by smiling, making Alec narrow his eyes at him.
“Uhm, on second thought, I might stay here instead. Wouldn’t want Raphael to feel left out.” Simon grimaced.
“He can come with us? Could be fun.” You tried, desperately not to go home yet.
“You know what else sounds fun?” Raphael answered. “Walking around in the sun to work on my tan… I think I would really rock the ‘slightly crisp’ look.” He said sarcastically.
“Ugh, see you later Simon.” You grumbled, disappointed you didn’t have an excuse not to go home.
“Later.” Simon smiled at you before you made your way to the door, Alec following right behind you.
You felt a cool breeze hit you in the face when you opened the door, along with some small drops of rain, making you even moodier than you already were.

After minutes of just following you, Alec had enough of the silence between the two of you.
“So you’re friends with the vamps now?” He asked like it was a bad thing, which in his eyes probably was.
“I’m sorry I don’t see them like walking bulls eyes you can practice your archery on.” You spat back, feeling offended for Simon, and actually even Raphael, who wasn’t really that bad.
“It’s not safe with them Y/N.” He tried to reason with you.
“Are you seriously starting with that bullshit again?” You stopped walking to look him in the eyes.
“Do I have to remind you of what happened last time I walked into that place?” He raised one of his perfect eyebrows.
You sighed, perfectly remembering what had happened last time. “Yeah, who would’ve thought they didn’t like the way you threatened them, pointing an arrow at their faces and all.” You said sarcastically.
“I did it to protect you!” As if wanting to make his statement more dramatic, heavy rain started pouring out of the sky, replacing the small drizzle that had already been falling down on you.
“Stop blaming me for all the stupid things you do!” You huffed out, seriously getting tired of his behavior. “I don’t need you to protect me, I’m a Shadowhunter, I’ll manage on my own.”
“What’s so wrong with me wanting to protect you?” He furrowed his brows, clearly not pleased at the way this argument was going.
“You don’t protect me, Alec. You treat me like a porcelain doll that can break at any given moment. I’m a Shadowhunter, and you’re preventing me from being one, and you know what that makes me?” You let out a sigh and wiped some rain drops from your forehead. “If I can’t be a Shadowhunter, I’m nothing.” You had trouble not to break down at that moment, so you decided it would be easier to make your way towards the institute on your own, leaving Alec too baffled at your statement to follow behind you.
“You’re not nothing to me.” He murmured while you were almost completely out of his sight, and out of hearing distance. He let out a sigh. “You’re everything.”

Turning off the warm water, your hand reached out of the glass door, searching for the towel you had left there somewhere. You walked out of the shower and started drying your hair with the towel when you heard someone knocking on your door.
“Just a minute!” You yelled from your bathroom, hoping that whoever was at your door had heard it, and had the patience to actually wait until you had at least dried yourself off and put some clothes on.
Not really looking what clothes you took out of your closet, you quickly went to open the door, revealing the one person you hadn’t expected to see.
“Oh, it’s you.” You spoke without much enthusiasm.
Alec’s eyes dropped, and quickly looked back up at you, only to divert his gaze yet again, anywhere besides you. “You, uhm, didn’t button your shirt.” He said, blushing.
You furrowed your brows and looked down at yourself, only to see you were revealing some skin of your upper half.
“What’s the problem? I’ve trained with you wearing less.” You inspected his movements, trying to figure out why he had a problem with it.
“Uhm, no problem.” He smiled, fixated on looking no where else but your face. “I, uhm, I came here to apologize.”
You raised your eyebrows, caught off guard by his words.
“I brought you a gift.” His hands suddenly appeared right in front of your view, revealing the small faux plant. You couldn’t help but smile when you recognized the familiar shiny silver flower pot.
“That’s so cute.” You gushed when you took it from him. “I actually bought the exact same one for your sister, but she accidently dropped it, and now it’s chipped on one side, but you can barely —,“ you felt a small piece of the pot missing under your fingertips, just as you wanted to place it on your desk, and turned it around so you could actually see the missing piece, “see it.” You silently finished your sentence.
You quickly turned around to look him in the eyes. “Alexander Lightwood, did you steal your sister’s plant, just so you could give it to me?”
He looked like he was caught stealing cookies out of a cookie jar. Or, well, stealing faux house plants out of his sister’s room.
“Well, I didn’t really know what to get you, and it’s not like there’s much choice in stores at this hour at night, but it’s the thought that counts, right?” he tried.
You raised an eyebrow. “I still haven’t heard an apology.”
He let out a sigh and closed his eyes for a moment, before blurting out his apology.
“I shouldn’t have banned you from going on that mission, and I shouldn’t have come to hotel Dumort to come and get you. I know what being a Shadowhunter means to you.” He confessed, making your mouth fall open, because in all of the years you had known Alec, you’ve almost never heard him apologize.
“And lastly, I should’ve told you I liked you from the moment I knew I did.” He gave you a small smile, not knowing how you would react to his confession. “I only did those things because I was really scared last time we went on a mission, and I didn’t want to see that pain on your face ever again.”
You were shocked at his confession, but not too shocked to not say anything. You crossed your arms and walked a bit closer towards him. “So, let me get this straight: you did stupid things, which almost cost us our friendship, just because you like me?”
He just nodded.
You pursed your lips. “And you never thought it would be easier to just say you liked me?” You let out a sigh yourself and closed your eyes before mumbling something.
“I fall for the worst ones.”
His eyes grew wide when he heard you murmur those words. “Wait, so you like me too?” he sounded hopeful.
“Yeah, I do.” You smiled. “Well, don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the Alec that banned me from going on missions and all that, but I do like the Alec that’s standing right in front of me, apologizing, and even bringing a gift, even if it’s something he stole from his sister.” You narrowed your eyes, thinking about what you’ve just said. “Well, maybe don’t steal anything again, okay?”
He couldn’t help but smile. “Okay.”
“You know which Alec I also like? The one I’m going on a date with, later this night, just to watch some Netflix or something.” You smirked.
“I like that one too.” He smiled widely, not believing his luck with you.
“Okay, but now I really need to kick you out of my room.”
His smile fell. “What? Why?” he asked, furrowing his brows in confusion while you pushed him out of the door.
“Because I have a date to get ready for.” You said, right before you slammed the door shut in his face.
