You Never Should Have Trusted Those Adventurers. Now You’re Being Held Prisoner Atop An Ancient Iron Tower.
Every commoner should know that adventurers always bring trouble. They’re well-meaning trouble-makers at best, but most likely to be greedy mercenaries, only marginally less monstrous than the underworld creatures they prattle about slaying. But when some strangers came to your home, promising sums of gold to anyone who would guide them to a nearby dungeon, you didn’t pass on their offer.
You took their gold, gave them your trust, and now you’re one of a dozen villagers at their mercy. No one is coming to save you. It is up to you to escape your cell, brave the dungeon, and escape from the clutches of the mercenaries.
Hello! I’m a professional GM who hosts tabletop games on commission. I’ve been looking to run Shadowdark for a little while now, so I’ve got a new campaign put together in case anyone wants to send a few dollars my way. As a professional, I make sure to provide everything I can! Voice channels, virtual tabletops, online resources, cool art, safety tools, communication, and a consistent schedule. But most importantly, I make sure that our table is a place for fun and relaxation, your comfort and safety as a player at my table is of my utmost concern. Transphobia, racism, ableism, sexism, or homophobia will not be tolerated. Players expressing bigotry will be removed from the game and reported to my administrators at StartPlaying.
Speaking of safety, I have to give you some potential content warnings. The system I’ll be using is Shadowdark by Kelsey Dionne. As a deadly dungeon-crawling system, there’s going to be some moments featuring blood, body horror, cannibalism, character death, demons, insects, snakes, and spiders. Do not join this game if these themes are unpalatable to you. A week before the adventure can begin, we will have a session zero for introductions, character creation, and any further safety information.
But just what is Shadowdark? Well it’s a dungeon crawler with an “old-school” vibe and “modern sensibilities.” Compared to something like D&D 5e, the rules are light and simple. Characters can be rolled up in a few minutes, time and distance are measured abstractly, and spellcasting is a simple d20 check! But on top of that, in my campaign, you start off as a level-0 commoner, who needs to escape the dungeon alive in order to graduate into a level-1 dungeon crawler.
But don’t be fooled! Even the most virtuous folk can be corrupted by that which glitters. In Shadowdark, people are fragile, combat is deadly, treasure is xp, and the darkness is hungry. Did I mention that no one has dark-vision? Better light up those torches.
