The female body’s hiddenness applies to all aspects of men’s dealings with women. What does it look like in there? Did she have an orgasm? Is it really my child? Who was my real father? Mystery shrouds women’s sexuality.

did you even go to catholic school if you didn’t grow into an adult with a repressed sense of sexuality, misplaced guilt, and a weird attraction to religious imagery???
“Magnus forced Alec to come out sooner than he was ready”
Are we even watching the same show?
Alec didn’t come out because of Magnus. He even admits it on S2 (I can’t remember the episode) in which he says something along the lines “You’re right, I did it for me” when referring to the wedding kiss.
Maybe Magnus inspired Alec to assume his sexuality at that time instead of keep on pretending for the sake of his family and homophobic clave society, but this was something that Alec decided by himself at his own pace.
When I say that Magnus might have inspired Alec to come out, I say it because as Alec said “I never thought I could get what I wanted, until you came along”. So when Magnus appeared Alec realised that real love could indeed be possible for him. That he could in fact get what he wanted because just like Alec unlocked something in Magnus, Magnus also unlocked something in Alec. Something he had kept closed all his life. We can also confirm that Alec was doing all of that by his own will and decision with Magnus or no Magnus through other clues throughout episode 1x12, but we get it even more when Alec says to Maryse that he was always like that and now it was on the open. It wasn’t Magnus who made him to anything, it was who Alec was all along.
Some people support this argument saying that Magnus was predatory in his advances. I disagree. Magnus was very flirty yes. At first because it’s probably how he naturally is and then also because he could feel Alec’s interest but he wasn’t fully aware of Alec’s internal struggle at first or that Alec had never had such experience. We see Magnus toning down a lot on season 2 and giving Alec the space and the control of the pace of the relationship. He backed of because he knew that this was all very new and difficult for Alec and so he wanted to respect Alec’s timing. Where is that predatory?
But lets talk about season 1. Many people use that scene on episode 1x12 where Magnus is trying to convince Alec that he’s lying to himself by marrying Lydia to say that Magnus was predatory and was trying to force Alec to come out.
But think... Magnus is a freewheling bissexual, a man who is comfortable with that part of himself. But he lived through centuries of homophobia and repression. He fought to accept himself... we don’t know how was his story with his sexuality but we know that Magnus fought a lot to accept himself as a warlock after everything he went through with his stepfather and his mother’s suicide. We can see that Magnus feels tremendous empathy for Alec and sadness because Alec is fighting to accept himself. Magnus understands Alec. He knows that Alec is marrying Lydia to please his family and that Alec is on his way to live a loveless marriage and build a fake mask for the world. Magnus witnessed that throughout his long life and himself has probably wished many times not to be who he really is.
It comes a point that if we pay attention we realize that Magnus wasn’t trying to seduce Alec on that scene. He was using his magic to show Alec what a person feels when they are actually in love with someone and to make him think and compare it with he (doesn’t) have with Lydia and to tell him that he’s willing to live his whole life without feeling that... without feeling his heart beating faster for someone. It wasn’t about seducing Alec to make him want Magnus. It wasn’t even to make Alec publicly come out. It was for Alec to think about the type of life he was willing to live and what he’s willing to sacrifice and how he is repressing himself and killing part of him to live a lie.
Then Magnus shows up at the wedding. But he didn’t do it so that Alec would come out... no. Firstly, he showed up because Izzy invited him... Izzy knew what was happening and wanted to “save” Alec from this life changing decision. When Magnus showed up he says to Maryse “I’ll leave if Alec asks me to”. He’s not revealing anything, he’s not saying anything that reveals Alec’s sexuality or Magnus’ feelings for Alec... he’s just there and Alec is the one who has to decide what he wants to do. Alec could have kept going with the wedding. Alec could have kicked Magnus out. Alec could have called out the wedding AND kick out Magnus. Alec could have called out the wedding AND never kiss Magnus or reveal his sexuality. You can see how Magnus is surprised when Alec walks toward him and kisses him. That wasn’t the plan.
The show is very good with not guiding you through the hand when ti comes to this whole issue. We have to connect the dots and the pieces through out the episodes and really watch both character’s actions and development.
Tonight at the Brooklyn Artists Ball we honor Robert Gober and Donald Moffett and recognize their art and their commitment to each other and to social good. Their individual artistic explorations of sexuality, politics, nature, religion, and justice are profound and immensely influential, and the power of their poetic artistic practices grows as we face so many urgencies in the world. Both artists have been committed to supporting many causes, from Bob’s involvement in ACT UP to Don’s role as a founder of Gran Fury, as well as their philanthropic efforts in support of reproductive rights and social justice.Â
We hope you can join us tonight as we celebrate these artists.
Honest question, why do people think that Simon is not straight?
I’m not saying he is or he isn’t, but I always thought that Saphael was more like a joke and not people actually thinking that Simon feels attracted by Raphael (or any other male character). Same with Jimon (as a couple).
