Requested By Anon: Could you do a Kelly x SquadFF!Sister. Kellyâs new girlfriend doesnât like his sister. Kelly doesnât notice this and wants them to be friends. His sister tryâs for Kelly but when heâs not around or not looking the girlfriend is a b****. When the sister mentions it to Kelly, he brushes her off basically saying sheâs imagining things. One day Kelly is with his gf and he gets a call something has happened to the sister (minor emergency, nothing crazy unless thatâs what youâre feeling) and when he tells his gf heâs gotta go she gets mad and basically gives him the âits me or herâ speech and he breaks up with her on the spot.
I know itâs kinda long and specific but feel free to change anything you want! All I ask is that if you do write this, can you please make the reader (sister) very not dramatic. Like she tries not make a big deal out of it even though it bothers her. Also big fan of badass women⊠just saying. đ

The past 24 hours had been one of the most taxing shifts in a good while, Squad had been called to back-to-back long, complicated, rescues which had left you feeling pretty zonked and somewhat deflated, in need of a recharge. However, other than a deeply satisfying and long sleep, you had personal matters that required your attention. One such matter was that you would be meeting Kelly, your big brother and Squad Lieutenant, for drinks at Mollyâs. This wasnât just a hang-out that you could call off, however, as tonight youâd be meeting his new girlfriend, Olivia.
You tried your best to be supportive of Kelly and his romantic endeavours, you knew that your brother had a heart of gold and always went in with the best intentions. Yet, you also knew he had emotional baggage that he was yet to face full on, and although you and he would talk about anything and everything, it was still down to him to make decisions for himself. So here you were, willing to give Olivia your most polite, undivided attention and see what she was all about, whether Kelly had made a good choice or not remained to be seen. He had seemed really happy of late, and who were you to put a question mark over that?
Arriving at Mollyâs your bladder instantly decided that before drinks it would need a visit to the bathroom, so giving your brother a quick wave and Herrmann a salute you headed straight to the restroom. You noted on your walk through that Kelly was alone at the bar, you just figured Olivia hadnât arrived yet and thought nothing of it. In your brief cloud of thoughts, you didnât notice someone exiting the bathroom, walking straight into them and snapping yourself out of your musing.
âOh shit, Iâm so sorry, I was totally somewhere else! My badâŠâ You spoke quickly, apologising profusely as a small embarrassed expression came across your face, smiling to diffuse the annoyance the stranger might feel.Â
However, the stranger scoffs, shoving past you as she comments, âFor christâs, just pay attention! Whatâs wrong with you, are you stupid, bitch?â
Leaving you standing there dumbfounded as it was clearly an accident and you had apologised, there was no need for that kind of venom. Before you can even respond the door to the main bar area swings shut and the stranger is back out into the foray.Â
You head to the bathroom for the pee youâd gone for, feeling irritated that you hadnât had the chance to call that woman out on her nastiness. You were used to stressed out and sometimes volatile people whilst working on Squad, but experiencing that kind of behaviour in a bar really got under your skin.
Washing up and making sure you were presentable for Olivia and Kelly, you head back out into the main area of Mollyâs, laughing quietly as Herrmann gives you an encouraging thumbs up on your way back to where Kelly was sitting, now with a woman with long, straight, almost midnight black hairâŠ
You recognised that hair. You had just seen it swishing past you outside the bathrooms.Â
âOf course, it would be wouldnât it.â You exhale in irritation, muttering to yourself as you take the last steps toward Kelly and his companion. Plastering the best smile on your face.
âKelly.â You wrap a friendly arm around your brotherâs shoulder, waiting for him to introduce his new demonic girlfriend.
âHey! Iâm so glad youâre here. Y/N this is Olivia, Olivia this is Y/N.â The lieutenant gestures to the woman beside him, and itâs like looking at a completely different person from minutes ago. Her eyes are softer, less hardened, and a sickly sweet smile greets you - itâs almost shy. She even reaches in to give you a half-hug complete with a pat on the shoulder. You want to laugh in her face, but you donât show any other emotion other than polite joviality and return the gesture.
âItâs SO amazing to finally meet you, Y/N. Kelly has told me so much about his amazing little sister.â Your eyes do light up a little, not because of Olivia but because Kelly had been talking about you - he had always been so supportive and encouraging of you, he was the reason you fought so hard to get a place on Squad 3 with him. Working with your brother was the dream, and he had let you cut no corners. You were sure that youâd had one of the more gruelling application processes for Squad.
âThe same for you, Olivia. Itâs really nice to meet you.â You smile as best you can, slotting yourself next to Kelly at the table theyâd moved to.
The night was going somewhat successfully, trading work stories, interests and future hopes for trips, experiences and so on, you could feel your irritation from before thawing out⊠That was until Kelly decided he needed to pee. Something you couldnât be mad at him for, but desperately wanted to given what happened as a result.
Kelly had left you and Olivia to make small talk, and you had decided that perhaps you had caught her in a bad spot outside the bathroom earlier, choosing to hope that the person youâd been talking to all night was genuinely the kind and the interested person she seemed to be.
âIâve really enjoyed this tonight, Olivia. Itâs so good to see Kelly happy and excited about things other than work.â You smile, sipping at your drink, waiting for some kind of response.
Olivia simply stares at you, an arrogant smirk on her face, she raises an eyebrow.
âYou think this is for you? To enjoy tonight? Iâm here because your brother wanted me to be, donât get it twisted. Weâre not going to become best friends or fun sisters-in-law or whatever. Kellyâs got a right to have a life away from his little sister hanging off of him at every moment, donât you think?âÂ
The words cut into you and you feel your body turn cold, sheâs still got a smile on her face for anybody that might look over to the table and see whether Kellyâs sister and his new girlfriend are getting along. You feel the rage bubbling up in your chest, jaw clenched, you really didnât understand what this womanâs problem was.
âI didnât⊠Iâm sorry, what have I done to offend you? What happened earlier was an accident, and I know Kelly has his own life, I would never-â The sound of her grating laughter cuts through the air, and you have no idea whatâs going on until you feel Kelly return beside you.
âKel, Y/N was just telling me stories from when you were kids.â She grins, giving him the doe eyes as you sit dumbfounded.Â
âIs that so, huh? Nothing too embarrassing, I hope.â Kelly turns to you, and you realise youâre frozen in incredulity. Seconds pass by, and your brain kicks back in, shoving out your best half-hearted laugh and smile. âNothing too embarrassing, just the highlightsâ You jest, but really you just want to throw the rest of your drink in Oliviaâs face. Your enthusiasm doesnât quite land, Kelly gives you a weird look, but he figures youâre tired just like he is from the previous shift.Â
âSorry, it's my turn to pee.â You mumble, as you get up and make a beeline for the bathroom, your emotions surging through your body, ready to spill out in either tears or a temper.
You shove your way into the restroom, immediately turning on the cold tap to splash some water onto your face, blinking back the angry drops that push their way past your eyelashes. Fist clenched against the counter by the sinks. Breathing hard as you try to corral your anger. Being too much of a nuisance, interference or burden on Kelly has long since been your no.1 fear, and you have always tried to let him lead an independent life without relying on him too much as a younger sibling. You thought youâd been doing a good job, in fact, you were certain that you and your big brother had a wonderful dynamic, and yet Oliviaâs words had rattled your cage so thoroughly.Â
The minutes pass and youâre finding it hard to get yourself back out there, messaging Sylvie to ask if she could make up some sort of excuse about your shared apartment with her, something that would require you to go back and help sort it out.
Just as you think youâve rallied yourself back together the bathroom door opens, and the last person you want to stand there is watching you with cold eyes.Â
âYouâre not sulking in here, are you? I was just giving you some adult advice.â Olivia snips, and you want nothing more than to strike your hand across her face.Â
You were in your mid-20s, and you had one of the most serious and taxing jobs around, you knew what it meant to be an adult and you were already sick of this witch making you feel small. If Kelly could hear her nowâŠÂ
âIâm all good thanks, not looking for any extra unsolicited advice.â You bite, this time side-stepping around her to leave the bathroom.
âYouâre not running off are you?â She calls out, just as you reach the door back towards the main area again.Â
You take long, quick, strides towards Kelly whoâs now got Matt for company. You greet the Captain briefly before giving your excuse to leave to Kelly.Â
âHey, Matt⊠Listen Kelâ, Iâm so sorry but I gotta dash. Sylvie called and said the showerhead wonât stop running, itâs making a weird sound. I gotta go help her and get hold of the landlord. Iâm so sorry for rushing off.âÂ
Even to your ears, the excuse sounds weak, but Kelly doesnât show any signs of disbelief,Â
âOh, no sweat. You do what you need to, we can do this again soon, yeah?â Kelly smiles, squeezing your arm.Â
âOf course, see you tomorrow. And nice to meet you, Olivia. Bye Matt.â You hurry your goodbyes, only glancing at Olivia who gets to the table as you start to depart, seeking the fresh air and distance from that situation as quickly as possible. Not noticing the curious look Matt gives you as you leave, grateful that he hadnât offered to go help Sylvie, seeing as fixing things was his forte.
-
When you get home to Sylvie sheâs waiting with some drinks of her own and some snacks, music and a listening ear. You had tried to not let it get to you so much, but in the safety of privacy with one of your dearest friends you felt the angry tears fall.Â
âShe is so condescending, Sylvie. Jesus Christ⊠I donât even know her and yet sheâs got under my skin. I have always tried to let Kelly be Kelly and not interfere. And-â
âAnd whatâs changed?â Sylvie queries, eyebrows raised in that big sister, no-bullshit, way.
âWhat? Nothingâs changedâŠâÂ
âExactly, Y/N. You havenât changed, you havenât done anything wrong. You and Kelly are a sibling fortress, and this woman needs to back the hell up if she thinks she can come between you.â
Youâre stunned into silence for a moment, this was something you already knew but had let your mind run away from in an evening. You hadnât done anything wrong, you were there for Kelly always and you hadnât let your misgivings from tonight get in his way. You had done everything you could to keep the peace for your brotherâs sake.
Your eyes filled with âOh shitâ meet Sylvieâs âUh-huh, Iâm rightâ expression.Â
âWhat do I do, Sylv? I canât just let her walk all over me, but I donât want to make a fuss in front of Kelly.â
Sylvie links her arm with yours, âY/N, listen to me very carefully. If Kelly found out you had let this all happen and kept going, well how do you think heâd feel, hm? What are the chances of him ditching you for a woman heâs known for a minute compared to your lifetime?âÂ
âSlim.â You murmur. Yet, something about the happy glint in Kellyâs eye told you it may not be as straightforward as telling him and then it all being over. A part of you was still hesitant to shatter the illusion that his new girl was as sweet as pie.Â
âSlim to not happening at all, there's no way.â Sylvie corrected.Â
âSo I tell him?â You ask, needing confirmation that you werenât crazy and that you had every right to go to your big brother about this.Â
âYou tell him, you let him know exactly how it all happened, heâs not stupid and he is generally good at seeing people for who they are.â
You nod, resting your head on Sylvieâs shoulder. âYouâre the best, Brett.âÂ
âOnly because I am friends with the best kind of person, Severide. Now, what are we getting drunk with, and are we ordering takeout?â You laugh at that, in total agreement with the new plan, squeezing her in a hug as you pick up the remote to find something for you and her to enjoy whilst forgetting about bitchy people snooping around in your life.

The next shift with Kelly is a challenge, to say the least. Rather unexpectedly your brother is particularly hard on you, through maintenance, through drills and, rather frustratingly, on calls. For some reason, you couldnât do anything right in your brotherâs eyes and it was starting to piss you off. Things you did that would have been perfectly acceptable or up to standard for him were suddenly done too quickly, or not taken seriously enough on your behalf; it meant that, despite your best efforts to appreciate that you would be treated like any other firefighter, you were starting to get short with your Lieutenant. It hadnât gone unnoticed by your crewmates either, with Joe, Capp and Tony all giving each other a look as if to say âWhat the hell is happening?â
The most recent call had been the last straw, on the return journey you had sat next to Joe in the back simmering with rage. Kelly had undermined you and called you out on something in front of the entire scene of responders, for something you were sure had been the appropriate course of action during the call. Kellyâs tirade had been such that even the Chief had to tell him âEnoughâ and sent 81 and 51 back to the firehouse, making Squad 3 clean up alone. You hadnât answered back, or protested, accepting your Lieutenantâs words as something to take on board, yet inside it felt like a fire was ripping through you.
You had swept and hauled debris in silence, opting to work next to Capp and away from your brother who was discussing something with Joe. You couldnât even look at him as you passed him to get into the truck, you were close to ripping into him personally and unprofessionally - even though you considered his behaviour to not have been appropriate.Â
By the time youâd got back you were nothing short of having a breakdown, yet you held your head high and chose to simply pack away your gear ready for the next call, electing to find Matt Casey as soon as possible.
Making a beeline to the Captainâs office you knocked, barely waiting for the âCome inâ before opening Caseyâs door and pushing it firmly shut behind you. Sinking down onto the floor between the wall and his bed.Â
âWhatâs up, kiddo?â
âIf you donât help me figure out how to keep my cool, I am going to strangle my Lieutenant, your best friend.â You muffle a yell into your palms, looking up at Matt with imploring eyes.
âSo heâs not your big brother anymore, just my best friend?â Caseyâs face carries a hint of a smile, but he senses youâre not in the teasing mood.
âCase, you heard him out there today, heâs been up my ass all day. Did that bitch break up with him or something, because I-â
âWoah, hold up. You donât know?â Mattâs eyebrows raised in confusion.Â
âKnow what?â Youâre focused on Matt now, your heart hammering in anticipation of what you didnât know.
âOlivia told him that you tried to start a fight, and called her some pretty uh, nasty things. He came to me asking if youâd said anything, and I said I hadnât seen you since Mollyâs the other night. I figured this whole mess from today was the fallout of thatâŠâ
You stared at Casey with what felt like your entire stomach about to fall out of your ass.Â
âShe, what?â You murmured, your head was pounding and your mouth had gone dry.
He rose from his chair, coming to sit on the floor with you, a hand on your shin in reassurance. âI know, I told him I didnât think it sounded like you, but he was pretty mad, Y/N. I couldnât calm him down all that much.â
Your face fell into the palm of your hand, you were so full of adrenaline you didnât know what would happen to it next.Â
âThat bitch. That honest-to-god bitch⊠All I did was accidentally walk into her at Mollyâs, Matt. Thatâs it! I apologised and she in return told me how useless I was, then accused me of leeching off my brother, then she tried to make me feel like a fucking child⊠All the while Iâm doing my best to keep the peace and not upset Kelly. Iâm gonna⊠hoo, boy, I am gonna lose my goddamn mind.â You exhaled sharply, suddenly springing to your feet which caused Matt to scramble back and do the same, not sure where this was all going.Â
âY/N, donât do anything you canât take backâŠâ Casey warned, eyeing you with concern.Â
You canât speak, shaking your head, patting his arm as you leave his office without another word.Â
Matt cautiously follows in your quick footsteps, watching as you head towards Squad 3âs table. He swallows, scratching the back of his head, waiting for the implosion.Â
You come to stand by Kellyâs feet, he doesnât look up from his newspaper as you stand patiently. âLieutenant? You got a second?âÂ
âCan this wait?â He replies, not even looking up at you. You bite your lip, willing your anger and upset to go away. You didnât want to do this in front of the firehouse.Â
âUnfortunately not, sir. Itâs an urgent matter.â You bite your tongue, keeping it amicable, waiting for your brotherâs response.Â
âAlright, my office.â He replies emotionlessly, getting up from his armchair as he wordlessly heads back in the direction youâd come from.Â
Matt eyes you sympathetically, and you smile weakly, steeling yourself for the conversation you were about to have. Joe, Capp and Tony eye the captain, looking for extra gossip. Matt shakes his head, âBack to work, orâŠwhatever it is you guys do out here.â ignoring their noises of disappointment as he heads after you and your brother, wanting to be some kind of mediator if it got too heated.Â
Kelly stands by the entrance to his office, waiting for you to get inside the space before closing the door and shutting the blinds.
Next door you hear Casey's door shut, and you know he's on standby if anything gets out of hand.
You stand in front of your big brother with arms folded, a defiant expression on your face. You werenât going to take any of this bullshit, and you werenât going to let Kelly have the wool pulled over his eyes.Â
Kellyâs jaw is clenched, he speaks in a deadly serious tone.
âExplain yourself.â
You swallow a scoff, shaking your head as you look at him. âExplain myself? You really think I am nasty enough to make your new girlfriend feel unwelcome? To get physical with her? To jeopardise your contentment for my own selfishness?â You stare him out, daring him to actually say yes to any of those. You can see the faltering in his eyes, he knew you, he knew how kind you were, how strong and loving you were. Yet, Olivia had put on a good show and for some reason, he couldnât see past it.
âShe was crying that night after Mollyâs, Y/N. She was really upset at the way you treated her,â
You shake your head in disbelief, eyes closing for a second, searching for composure.
âI accidentally bumped into her on the way to the bathroom, Kel. When I arrived that night, you remember? Thatâs all that happened, I bumped into her and she called me a âstupid bitchâ, and then for the rest of the night proceeded to accuse me of selfishly taking up your time, of being needy, of being a child.â
Thereâs silence between you, Kelly shifts awkwardly on his feet, he knows when youâre lying and he canât see a hint of it in front of him. Still, he canât understand why Olivia would have been in hysterical tears over nothing. You can see the wavering in his decision, you can see that heâs not going to fully commit to seeing your side of the story and your heart sinks.Â
âKelly, I donât want you to say another word without you really considering what comes out of your mouth next. Just know that if we lose this great family between us because of something she made up⊠I canât take that, Kel. Youâre my no.1, the one I trustâŠI thought I was the same to you.âÂ
Your brotherâs eyes are full of emotion, and you swallow, you just want to break down and beg him to believe you. You wanted to be strong though, to be believed because it was the truth and not because youâd made a fuss. And just like that, the cruel hand of fate sounds the alarm, and the voice asks that all units from the firehouse attend. You donât say another word to your brother as you both leave in a hurry to get to the truck.
-
Sitting in the truck waiting to arrive on the scene gives you enough time to get your head together, as always you had a job to do and there was no room for the racing thoughts in your mind.Â
Pulling up outside a three-story home a blaze taking hold comes into view on the west side, you pile out of Squad 3 and head towards Chief Boden, masking up as you go, checking each otherâs SCBAs as you listen to who is going where.Â
Your Squad is sent to the upper floor and youâre behind Kelly as you march up the stairs, announcing yourselves as you go, looking for any potential victims. Room by room you search, under beds and in closets, the neighbour next door had told you as you were going in that a large family lived there, with two parents and 5 kids. She wasnât sure if they were home or not, but she knew that sometimes the kids would stay home alone if the parents had to work.
At the same time outside was the eldest child talking to the Chief, they had been found in the basement, crying hysterically as they explained that their 6-year-old brother and 10-year-old sister were still in the house. They had been playing hide and seek.Â
As you shut one door and go to open another, you hear what you think is a wail coming from above your head. You look up to see the hatch is partially open,Â
âSquad 3, come in.â Your radio comes to life.
âCopy you, Chief.â You answer Boden, still eyeing the gap in the hatch.
âThere's a 6-year-old and a 10-year-old still in there somewhere, you have five minutes, Severide.â
âI think I see one or both of âem chief, the attic hatch is partially open, I think Iâve got movement.â
âIâm sending you Truck 81 on the East side to assist, can you get to that window?â
âCopy, Chief, Iâll get us to the East window.â You let go of your radio, picking up your halligan as you jump to reach the handle to the pull-out steps. Calling out.Â
âFire department! Iâm coming up!â
Over the radio you can hear that Capp and Tony were coming back out to assist below, whereas Kelly was relaying the fact that heâd found the older kid in a bedroom, he was bringing them out too. So that left you with just the six-year-old.Â
With a quick climb, you were able to shine your helmet into the smoky confined space, revealing a terrified-looking boy coughing and crying, huddled in on himself by the hatch.Â
âHey, buddy. My nameâs Y/N, Iâm here to help you, alright? Youâre just gonna hold on to me, and then weâre gonna climb back down. Easy peasy, huh?âÂ
The boy whimpers, shying away as the fire roars down below.
âListen, sweetheart. I know it sounds scary, but itâll be scarier if you stay up here, alright? Weâve just gotta get to a window upstairs, and my friends are gonna have a fancy ladder waiting for us, theyâre gonna help us too, okay?â
You lean further in, painfully aware of the groaning of the houseâs structure beneath you, you beckon the child with your hand-clad gloves.
âCome on, kiddo. You got this, I wonât let you go, and weâll be okay.âÂ
The boy wails again but this time shimmies forward,Â
âOkay, thatâs it, youâre doing great, sweetheart. Just wrap yourself as tightly as you can around my neck, and then Iâm gonna climb down with you, yeah?â
He nods frantically, instantly getting a death grip around your neck, it makes you almost want to laugh. âThatâs a good job, okay weâre going down now, just stay close to me and donât look.â
With careful steps you push your body out to allow for the boyâs frame, steadily moving down until you feel the solid floor beneath your boots. Though solid, with each additional bit of your weight you can hear it protesting, prompting you to move a little bit quicker to the rendezvous, the staircase now engulfed in flames.Â
âChief, I have the kid, weâre coming to the East window now.âÂ
You move quickly, arriving at the window where you can see that Casey had broken the glass to get you and the kid out. You hand off your precious bundle to Matt, waiting for them to descend enough so as not to add too much weight to the top of the aerial.Â
Behind you you can hear the fire spewing and latching onto the upper floor, grabbing at the doorframe to the room youâre in. You watch in anticipation as the glow grows stronger behind the door youâd shut. Glancing out of the window you can see that Casey is nearly at the bottom to Mouch, so you start to turn yourself around and climb out onto the aerial too, as you do so you hear the telling sound of the impending flashover, trying to correct your feet fast enough to beat the powerful force of the heat and flames blowing out the windows, but itâs too late.Â
With a bang the force of the flames pushes you from the ladder, you try and reach out for one of the rungs as you fall but your gloves slip from the speed and force of your falling body, and your helmet collides with the side of the aerial, your mind going blank as you fall helplessly onto the grass below, ignorant of the calls of your name and the sounds of rushing footsteps as you lose consciousness.Â
-
The next thing you hear is an annoying beep, at first you think itâs your PASS alarm but itâs not that annoying. You groan, your head clouded in fog with your body feeling heavy, sore.
Thereâs a movement by your side, and you decide to blink open weary eyes to find out what it is. Your eyes meet your big brotherâs worried ones, and you smile weakly, still feeling weird from the sedation youâd been under. You were very much aware of the fact you had ended up at Med. Again.Â
âMnh, hey.â You murmur. You realise now the weight on your other side was your arm in a sling, your knee was strapped up pretty good and you were sure you could feel stitches on your neck going down into your shoulder.Â
âHey, kiddo,â Kelly murmurs, stroking your hair, mindful of the stitches just under your hairline.Â
âGuess I should have taken the aerial rather than just the air, huh?â You quip, a dopey smile from your own joke.
Kelly half-smiles, still looking so morose and only partially relieved. âI would have preferred that yeah. Instead of being scared that my sister had just broken everything in her body. You got so lucky, Y/N.âÂ
âFeels it, I expected worseâŠâ You sigh. âIâm sorry, Kel.â
Your brother shakes his head, âNo, no more apologising from you. Youâve done nothing wrong, and all Iâve done is be an asshole to you.â
His lip quivers, grasping at your hand gently as he feels the tears fall silently.Â
âHey, Iâm here. Why are you crying?â You rub your thumb across his knuckles, worried at what had him so upset.Â
âBecause youâve done nothing but support me, and I let practically a stranger almost ruin all of that, take my sister away and have her maybe never know how much I love her.â
Your eyes well up now, all that restrained emotion coming to the surface, and your lip trembles too. Relieved that he had seemingly come to his senses in believing you.
âKel, itâs alright, youâre here and-â
Kellyâs phone rings. He ignores it and you nudge him. âHey, answer, it could be work or something. I canât exactly run away.â You grin, he shakes his head with a sad smile.Â
As his eyes clock the name on the ID, his face darkens and you frown, you think you can guess whoâs on the other end.
He answers, putting the phone on speaker. âSeveride.â Voice clipped, in no mood for politeness.
âKel, are you on your way, the reservationâs at 8pm, you know how many strings I had to pull to get us a spot?â Olivia thinks sheâs good at putting on an innocent enquiring tone, but all Kelly can hear now is the controlling and demanding woman that was in front of him all along.
âIâm not on my way, Iâm at the hospital with Y/N, she had an accident at work today. Iâm gonna be with her overnight and then Iâll be taking her home tomorrow as well.âÂ
Thereâs silence on the line, you can feel Oliviaâs irritation through the phone and it makes you roll your eyes. Kellyâs jaw is set tight.Â
âKel, really? She canât be in the hospital for one fucking night on her own? This restaurant doesnât take kindly to cancellations, not when I called in favours. You have to stop babying-â
Your eyebrows go up at the unmasking of her feelings, and you watch in pure satisfaction as Kelly cuts her off.
âOlivia, Iâm going to say this once. Weâre done. Take your restaurant and shove it, we wonât be seeing each other again. Lose my number.â With that, Kelly disconnects the call, flicking around in the phone app to block the number. Letting out the biggest of sighs as he looks at you, you try not to smile because you still understand itâs hard to lose what you thought was a good connection, but at the same time, youâre elated that you have your brother alert and seeing that youâd never get in the way of what he wanted.
âRemind me to never lose my mind and believe some witch over my own sister again.â
âOh donât you worry, Kel, weâre not doing this again, if thereâs a next time the gloves come off and I kick either your or your new loverâs ass.âÂ

SEVERIDE!SISTER MASTERLIST
The doorbell rang and you looked up from where you were setting the table. Lily swung her head back up at you and you smiled. âThat must be Uncle Kelly and Aunt Stella. You want to get the door?â You asked your daughter.
The grin on Lilyâs face said it all. âCan I?â
You usually didnât let her answer the door alone even though your five year old had already huffed more than once that she was able to do âbig girl stuffâ but since you were expecting Kelly and Stella for family dinner you figured there was no harm.
You nodded with a smile and you heard her feet patter out towards the main door, interspersed with her excited yells of âUncle Kelly!â
You smiled as you heard her reach the door and the click of the door opening. Until it was quiet. Too quiet.
âLil?â You called, heading out of the kitchen and sticking your head out to check on her.
It wasnât Kelly.
Instead, it was the last person you expected or wanted to see.
Was it anger you felt first? Surprise? Or disbelief? You didnât know, and you didnât care. You headed straight for your daughter, picking her up into your arms.
âKris, what are you doing here?â Your voice was cold and Lily seemed to have picked that up as she turned to look at you.
âSorry, Mom. I donât talk to strangers.â Lily sounded genuinely upset because she thought you were angry with her.
You flashed her a small smile. âItâs okay, baby. Why donât you go get your stuff ready? Remember, the stuff you wanted to show Aunt Stella?â
Lily shook her head, seeming to sense something wrong and instead rested her chin on your shoulder, turning her back to the stranger at the door.
You glanced back at Kris. He wasnât just your ex, he was Lilyâs biological father. Biological. That was where you drew the line, seeing as how Kris had walked out on you after finding out you were pregnant. Lily didnât have any memories of him since heâd walked out before youâd even started showing. Youâd been devastated but on hindsight, it might have been the best thing that Kris had ever done for you.
âWe need to talk.â
Youâd almost forgotten the sound of his voice, the gravelly quality of it hitting your ears and triggering a bunch of memories that made your body stiffen despite the effort you were making to not let it.
You stepped backwards, reaching out for the door so you could close it. âWe have nothing to talk about.â
There was a dangerous glint in his eyes that youâd seen before. âI think youâve forgottenâŠâ
âForgotten what?â
You breathed a sigh of relief before youâd even looked up at your brother who was now striding towards you, pushing you gently into the house as he slid between you and Kris.
âLily, didnât you say you wanted to show me something?â Lily raised her head now to give Stella a smile. Stella nodded at you and you smiled back gratefully, allowing her to pick Lily from your arms and bring her inside.
Kris hadnât said anything, but Kelly wasnât waiting around for it. âDonât you come around here again. You stay away from them.â
Kelly turned towards you, pushing you gently further into the house, closing the door right in Krisâ face.
âYou okay?â Kelly turned to you.
You nodded and smiled. âAlways great to have my older brother around.â
Kelly smiled back, pulling a comforting arm around your shoulders and pressing a kiss to the top of your head, only interrupted with Lilyâs excited squeal of âUncle Kelly!â as she actually spotted him now.
You spent the rest of the night without sparing Kris another thought, surrounded by Kelly, Stella and your daughter. Lily didnât seem to have been fazed by the encounter, so you were thankful that she didnât know him. You didnât know if or even how you would handle a heartbroken five year old if sheâd been old enough to understand her father not wanting anything to do with her.
Stella slid a glass over to you as she sat next to you. âEverything okay?â
You glanced up at her before looking over at Kelly who was giving Lily the ride of her life on his back in the middle of the living room now and you smiled. âThanks to the both of you.â
Stella smiled, leaning over to give you a hug.
You glanced at your watch. It had been a long shift and not exactly a good one so you were dying to just go get Lily who, on the contrary, was probably having the time of her life at the Herrmann household.
Herrmann and Cindy had been a godsend. It didn't help that you and Kelly were on the same shift but despite the hours you held as a firefighter on Truck 81, you tried not to put them out too much. When Herrmann had caught whiff of your thoughts, however, Cindy had marched right on over and stomped that nonsense out of you, assuring you that the kids loved having little Lily around and that family was family.
âY/N!â The voice was coarse, like someone who was coming to pick a fight.
You frowned as you saw Kris striding up towards the firehouse, heading straight for you.
You glanced behind you, where Gallo and Ritter were walking out, their bags slung over their shoulders. Gallo frowned and you gave him a look, which he knew all too well after working with you for some time.
Ritter nodded at him, staying outside but hanging a little behind as Gallo turned back to the firehouse once again.
You took a breath and headed further out to meet him, muttering to yourself that you were going to kill Kelly for delaying you. âWhat the hell, Kris?â
âWe didnât finish the talk.â
You rolled your eyes. âAnd I told you thereâs nothing to talk about.â
Kris reached out to grab your arm. âAnd I told you there is.â The words slid out from his lips and you could hear him gritting his teeth, which was not a good sign.
You narrowed your eyes at him. âWhat do you want?â
âI need some money to tide me over.â
Your jaw fell open before you snapped it shut again. âYouâre kidding.â
âNever been so goddamned serious in my life, Y/N. I know you do that stupid reserve fund shit, so just get me some and Iâll be on my way.â
âOr what?â You challenged.
âYou know I could make your life a living hell.â Kris growled.
It was like he flipped a switch, as you felt anger fill your belly once again. âYou should just be glad I didnât ask you for child support. Walk away.â
âIâm not going anywhere until I get what I came from. Do not test me, Y/N.â He lowered his voice again.
âIâm not afraid of you, Kris. Not anymore.â You snapped.
It was a snap second, youâd stepped backwards to put more distance between the two of you, before you felt the impact of his palm striking your cheek. You stumbled backwards with the force as the old emotions roared to the surface again.
You didnât have much time to react though as Mattâs voice rang out from behind you. âHey!â
âYou son of a bitch!â Kelly was here, too.
You spun around, throwing yourself at your brother to stop him from literally pouncing on Kris and probably beating him to death.
âI warned you about showing your face anywhere around us again.â Kelly yelled, the anger pulsating in his voice with each word.
Anyone who hadnât left the firehouse was now being brought out by the commotion and soon Kris was facing a wall of firefighters. Your family.
âAnd what are you going to do about it?â Kris growled at Kelly, and you knew full well he was goading Kelly into delivering the first punch.
âKelly, donât.â You whispered, just as another voice interrupted the commotion.
âFor starters, we can arrest your sorry ass.â
You glanced up just as Adam flashed his badge.
âAdam?â
Adam just gave you a discreet nod, continuing to direct his words at Kris. âWhatâs it going to be, big guy?â
You didnât like how well you could see through the changing expressions on Krisâ face. The only good thing about it was knowing the moment that Kris knew he was cornered and didnât have much of a choice.
Kris gave you one last look but Adam took another step forward. âContinue down this line of harassment, Iâll arrest you myself.â
As Kris turned and left, you marveled at how this was probably the first time in his life that Kris looked like he was leaving with his tail between his legs.
You glanced back at Adam now that you knew you didn't need to physically hold Kelly back any longer.
Adam smiled. âYou okay?â
You nodded as Adam explained that heâd been in Chief Bodenâs office with Kelly talking about a suspected arson case when Gallo had interrupted them to tell them youâd been approached by some guy in the front and it looked urgent.
âIf he bothers you again, or even if you see him hanging around, you call me. Anything, anytime, Y/N.â Adam said, tapping your shoulder gently and reassuringly.
âOr I could kill him and solve everyoneâs problems.â Kelly growled through his gritted teeth.
You smiled, turning towards him. âSettle down. I was holding you back for you, in case you missed the point. Lily doesnât need the only male positive influence in her life to be thrown in jail for assault.â
âOuch.â You glanced at Matt, who was looking at you with a smile teasing the corner of his lips.
You let out a chuckle. âI take it back. I take it back. You know she loves her Uncle Matt too." You paused, glancing around at your family again. "Thanks guys.â
You looked back around, smiling at the people that had yours and your brotherâs back, as Kelly leaned forward to peer at your cheek where heâd struck you. âAre you sureâŠâ
You rolled your eyes at your brother. âIâve had worse. Come on, you promised Lily ice cream after shift. And we need to make sure she hasnât torn Herrmannâs house apart.â
Herrmann let out a small laugh. âNext to Anabelle at that age? Lilyâs a model kid.â
You laughed, falling into step next to Kelly and Stella as you headed towards Kellyâs car. âKel. Thanks.â
Kelly frowned at you. âWhat?â
âEverything. Being here for me and Lil, for being protective even though you drive me crazy when you treat me like a ten year old.â You smiled, teasing him gently before you continued. âHe said heâd make our lives a living hell and I justâŠâ
âFat chance. Not while Iâm around.â Kelly assured you, ruffling your hair gently.
You smiled.
âCome on, letâs go get Lil. Iâll even buy you an ice cream.â Kelly teased.
You rolled your eyes as you climbed into the back seat, Stella shooting you a smile from where she was already seated up front. âShut up.â You growled playfully back at your brother.
THANK YOU FOR READING!! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF THIS!!
As little girls, we all dream of our happily ever after. Corporations like Disney drive those thoughts and feelings home with their stories of princesses that find their true love. We dream of big weddings, our prince coming to our rescue at our lowest times. When we are young, the possibilities and dreams seem endless. Now, as an adult, I see the world from a much different perspective. Maybe I always have, given that Benny Severide is my father, so happily ever afters always seem to be a pipe dream, but maybe there is some truth to it after-all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I walk up to Kellyâs door and give a quick knock, attempting to keep Louie on my hip and juggle the food with the other. Kelly insisted on having dinner, claiming he had something he wanted to talk to me about. Even though I insisted that this wasnât a good time given that I have Louie while Matt is busy with an alderman event, Kelly had also insisted that this was important and couldnât wait.
When Kelly opened the door and saw my struggles, he immediately took Louie from my arms. âHey little man! Are you being good for Y/n?â Kelly asks Louie, stepping aside and turning him upside down while tickling his tummy.
Louis laughed loudly, bringing a smile to both Severide siblingâs faces. âYes!â He squeals, wiggling around in Kellyâs grip.
You smile, leaning against the door frame and letting the two bond for a moment. âAlright. Alright. Put him down. He needs to breathe.â You chuckle, smiling fondly at the pair as you walk past, making a beeline for the kitchen. âFoods gonna get cold. Go wash up!â You call, not bothering to turn back and honestly praying Kelly listened to you.
You hear the door shut and Kelly mutter âYes mom.â To you before both boys chuckle and Kelly proposes a race to the bathroom. You shake your head fondly and wash your own hands in the kitchen sink before grabbing some plates and silverware to set out on the table.
By the time you have everything situated, Kelly and Louie walk back into the room, Louie bumping into Kelly and giggling loudly as Kelly fake stumbles. Once they finally make it back to the table, you prepare Louieâs plate and hand it to him before preparing your own.
âSo, is this a dinner table conversation or an after dinner conversation?â You ask as you finish plating your food and watch as Kelly plates his.
Kelly shrugs, but doesnât look up as he speaks. âWell, I have news.â Kelly says. He hears how you shift and put your fork down, so heâs quick to reassure you. âItâs not bad. Calm down sis.â Kelly placates, placing a hand over one of yours briefly. âIâm gonna be donating my bone marrow to someone who needs it.â Kelly says, continuing to make his plate.
You sit in stunned silence. You werenât expecting that, but you did realize it could be worse. âOkay.â You draw out, sitting back in your chair. âThatâs awesome and all, but how did this even come up? When is this happening? I have so many questions.â You say, shaking your head and chuckling at the amusement on Kellyâs face.
âWell, Clarke said someone needed help and Iâm a match. I think itâs time I did something useful with my life.â Kelly says, shrugging and taking a bite of his dinner.
You shake your head, disbelief on your face. âKelly. You fight fires for a living. You run in and save people when they are at their lowest. When others would run away, you run toward. Youâre already doing something useful.â
âBut Iâve done a lot of really crappy things in my life.â Kelly says, placing his fork down and turning to look at you. âI donât want to be like dad.â
Kelly quickly interrupted you. âHold up. He finally asked?â Kelly says, grinning at you like the Cheshire Cat.
You pause, quickly realizing your slip up. âYeah. He did. Uh, we are considering getting married and adopting Louie.â You say, smiling at the small boy who is blissfully oblivious to the conversation happening in front of him as he eats his dinner and watches a show on your phone.
âFinally!â Kelly laughs, standing to pull you into a hug. âIt took him long enough!â
The rest of the evening turns from Kellyâs announcement to yours. All talk of Benny Severide pushed to the side as you and your brother talk about the future.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you get home, you hurry to get out of the car and meet Matt next to Louieâs door, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him in for a kiss.
Matt smiles as you pull away. âWell, hello beautiful.â Matt whispers, pecking your forehead.
âIâll carry him up. Get inside before you freeze.â Matt says, kissing you once more and smacking your butt as you turn to do as he says.
You stop just inside the doorway and watch Matt. He carefully unbuckles Louie and lifts him into his arms. The child stirs, but Matt is quick to shush him and bounce him, placing a soft kiss to Louieâs forehead. You marvel at the exchange, knowing Matt was terrified of the thought of being a parent for Louie at first, but now they have such a strong bond.
You smile as Matt carefully walks up the steps and through the door. You help him take off Louieâs coat and jacket, leaving the items by the door with your own. You then follow Matt further into the apartment and watch as he lays Louie down in his bed, tucking the boy under his blanket and laying his favorite stuffy in his arms before Matt steps out, making sure to leave a night light on.
âYou are such a great dad.â You muse, wrapping your arms around Matt again, pulling him down onto the couch. âI canât wait to marry you and adopt Louie.â
Matt smiles and shifts so that you are on his lap. âI canât wait either. To spend forever with you and him. Our little family.â
You kiss him once more before laying your head on his chest. You listen as he talks about the aldermen event, enjoying the way his chest vibrates. He knows your falling asleep, but he keeps talking until you go limp in his arms, and then Matt carries you to bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day, you are on shift with Matt and Kelly. Normally Cindy Hermann watched Louie for you, but most of the household has come down with the flu, so you have no choice but to bring Louie with you. Louie loves the attention heâs getting. His aunts and uncles at the firehouse spoil him rotten. The chief has noise cancelling headphones for when Louie goes to sleep and already has a plan for calls.
During the evening, the whole house is eating dinner, besides Truck since they are out on a call. Gallo has made Louieâs favorite, so the room is pretty low energy as the child quietly eats his dinner. That is until Benny Severide walks into the room.
Kelly is the first to spot your father and he stands, immediately coming to stand between you, Louie, and your father. âWhat the hell are you doing here?â Kelly asks, causing you to turn around and look to see who he could possibly be speaking to.
âDad?â You ask, standing next to Kelly and also blocking Louie. You hear Slyvie talking to Louie, trying to get him to leave the room, but they hate pretty far from any exit as Louie was sitting in the middle of the table.
âIs that the boy your fostering?â Benny asks, trying to get a look at Louie, but having a hard time as you and Kelly block his line of sight and Sylvie has him tucked into her side.
âWhat do you want dad?â Kelly asks, stepping closer to your father and putting an arm out to shield you. Benny doesnât look to be in his right mind.
âI heard that my daughter is getting married and adopting a kid. I think I have every right to hear it from her.â Benny says, practically yelling as he stumbles forward toward you and Kelly.
âI think itâs time for you to go.â Boden says from behind you, coming around you and Kelly and putting a hand on Bennyâs shoulder.
âGet your hands off me Wallace!â Benny yells, pushing at Boden, causing the chief to stumble back slightly, but Kelly rights him.
Now, you are furious. âSylvie. Get Louie out of here.â You mutter, turning and looking at your partner who nods and does as sheâs asked. Stella following close behind. Once Louie is out of the room, you turn on your father. âYou deserve nothing! You may be my biological father, but you will never be my dad. You lost that privilege a long time ago. Kelly may still try with you, but Iâm done. Iâm happy and you canât either accept it or not, but thatâs your problem, not mine.â You say, shaking as Kelly puts an arm around your shoulders. You have angry tears streaming down your face. âNow leave and never come back! I donât want you here and I donât want you around Louie!â You say, shaking your head and marching toward him, shoving him toward the door.
âYou canât talk to your father like that!â Benny roars, raring back to smack you, but Boden catches his hand first.
âLeave my firehouse. You are disturbing my medics and my firefighters and I wonât tolerate it. Donât make me call PD and have them throw you in the drunk tank.â Boden says, turning Bennyâs arm around his back as he pushes him toward the door.
You shake, nearly collapsing onto the floor in a panic at the events that just occurred. Benny never laid a hand on you or Kelly, but an ex of your had physically abused you and you just shut down. Kelly caught you as you went down, picking you up and bringing you into his quarters.
âHey hey hey. Shhh. Look at me. Open your eyes.â Kelly whispered, clutching your upper arms lightly in his hands. âYour safe. I have you. Nobody is going to hurt you or Louie, I promise.â Kelly soothed, rubbing his hands up and down your arms.
You nodded, showing your understanding, and tried to take some calming breaths. âI-I need M-Matt.â You whispered, rocking slightly back and forth. âCan you pplease check on Louie. Heâs safe, r-right?â You asked, looking your brother in the eyes and practically pleading with him.
Kelly nodded. âYeah, Stella and Sylvie have him. Heâs right outside in the bunk room. You wanna see him?â Kelly offers, smiling slightly as you start to wind down.
You nod and stand, looking through the blinds. Your met with Stella and Sylvie playing with Louie on one of the bunks. His trucks and cars are scattered all over the bed, the two women racing their cars along the bed and around Louie, making the young boy giggle.
âSee. Heâs safe. You are safe. Matt should be on his way back. Everything is okay.â Kelly says, hugging you from behind when you lean into his chest.
You nod, watching your future son with his aunts. âThanks Kel.â You whisper, turning and burying your face into Kellyâs chest.
Kelly kisses the top of your head and hugs you back tightly. âAnytime Y/n. You know Iâm always here for you.â
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
You spotted him the moment you entered Mollyâs and quickly turned, ducking behind a crowd of guys that were just leaving the bar. When you reached the bar, Stella looked as if she had been waiting for you all along.
âHey.â You greeted, frowning a little when you noticed the way she was looking at you. âWhat?â
Stella pushed a drink towards you. âYou hiding from someone?â
You hadnât really planned on telling Stella but you really needed a girlfriend now.
âJay asked me out.â You said, adjusting yourself on the high stool to make yourself more comfortable.
Stella was leaning against the bar now, leaning in towards you. âAnd?â
You shrugged. âI donât know.â
Stella looked up as Jay walked past, his eyes very obviously lingering on you as if he was deciding whether to approach, before he tore his eyes away and slipped out of Mollyâs. Stella smiled, turning her attention back to you.
âWhat is it?â She probed.
You sighed. âI donât know, donât you think Iâm a bit⊠young for him?â You gnawed lightly on your lower lip, a habit youâd had since forever when you had a lot on your mind.
Before Stella could respond, you heard Kellyâs voice near the door and the both of you turned.
âPlease donât tell Kelly about this.â You pleaded.
Stella smiled. âThis conversation is not over.â
âStellaâŠâ You whined.
âGirlâs honour.â Stella whispered, crossing her heart with two fingers just as Kelly reached the bar. He reached out to ruffle your hair, an annoying habit he had never gotten rid of, before he leaned across the bar to kiss Stella.
âKelly, how many times do I have to tell you to quit doing that?â You growled, straightening your hair again.
Kelly chuckled. âAs many times as I have to tell you that I donât care how old you are, you will always be my baby sister.â
Kelly looked from Stella to you. âSomething I should know?â
Stella smiled and shook her head. âNot if you know whatâs good for you.â
Thankfully, Kelly hadnât probed further and true to her word Stella hadnât said anything to Kelly, instead coming by your place the next night armed with girlsâ night snacks.
The both of you now sat on the couch as Stella studied you. âYou like him, donât you?â
You shrugged.
âWhat are you worried about?â Stella pushed a little and you looked up.
âIâm just not sure he really likes me.â You paused. âI know we donât have like a huge controversial age gap or anything, itâs just⊠Iâm just not sure if he really likes me or he just likes the idea of you know⊠dating someone⊠younger?â
Stella smiled. âDo you think heâs a good guy?â
You looked up. âYeah, I think heâs the best.â
Stella didnât answer, just continued smiling at you. âNow, I canât tell you what to do, not really. You have to be ready to take the step forward but will you regret letting him go without trying?â
You bit your lip, the words rolling around in your head.
âYou were supposed to make things easier.â You half complained.
Stella chuckled. âIf you wanted easier, you would have gone to Kelly.â
You laughed. âThatâs true.â
âY/N, you like him, just go. Itâs a first date, go have fun and donât overthink it.â Stella said, looking back at you, smiling.
Not overthinking was easier said than done.
On your fourth day of ânot overthinkingâ, youâd run into Jay at Mollyâs.
âHey.â Jay greeted, his green eyes twinkling like they normally did. You smiled back at him, trying to ignore the sound of your heart trying to leap out of your chest.
Jay hesitated in front of you, almost as if he wanted to ask you something but was afraid to broach the subject first.
You looked up at him. âOkay.â
Jayâs eyes jumped up to yours. âOkay?â
You let a smile creep along your face. âOkay.â
Jayâs face lit up and you felt your gut do a somersault. âTo one date.â You stressed.
Jay put his hands up. âAll Iâm asking for, Y/N. All Iâm asking for. Friday?â
You smiled and nodded. âFriday.â
âIâll come by and pick you up at 7.â Jay said, and you swore you could hear a little triumph in his voice.
You watched as he practically skipped back to his table, casting you another backward glance. Stella winked at you from the bar. You headed over to her and leaned over. âThank you.â You whispered.
âFor what?â Kelly asked, eyeing you suspiciously.
You punched Kelly in the arm, not answering his question. âYou better hold on to her, you hear me?â
Kelly raised an eyebrow.
âIâll kick your ass otherwise.â You threatened.
Stella was right â it would be great if things went well but even if it didnât, at least you wouldnât have any regrets.
Hii!!! I love your writing and congrats on 1k!! Can I request Jay x reader where sheâs severides sister and she struggled with drugs a lot growing up after her dad cheated on her mom so can you do prompts 1 and 2 with Jay? Like theyâre together and she finally feels like home?
Pairing: Jay Halstead x SeverideSister!Reader
#1: I love you more than you will ever know
#2: Home is wherever you are
A/N: It's a drabble so I didn't delve too much into the background, still hope you like it!
You hadnât had an easy childhood, the only good thing in your life for the longest time had been your brother, although even Kelly hadnât been able to stop you from turning to drugs.
You shook your head, trying to shake the darkness out.
That had been a long time ago and you were proud of how far youâd come, although you couldnât take all the credit.
Right on cue, as if he knew youâd thought of him, Jay entered the apartment. You headed for him, sticking your face right into his chest.
Jay chuckled. âIâm happy to see you too.â
When you didnât respond, Jay pulled away slightly to look at you. âYou okay?â
You nodded. âI was just thinking how lucky I am to have you.â
Jay arched his eyebrows and you just continued. âYou know, Iâll never understand what prompted you to even look at me in the first place, I was a mess when we first met.â
Jay pushed your chin upward gently so that you were looking at him. âOh, you have no idea. I love you more than you will ever know. Never forget that.â
Your smile widened slowly and Jay bent down to press a kiss to your lips firmly. âItâs great to come home to you.â Jay whispered.
âHome is wherever you are.â You whispered back. âThank you for being my home.â
You snuggled back into Jayâs embrace, ever thankful that you finally felt like you had a place in this world to call your own.
SEVERIDE!SISTER MASTERLIST
âDo you even remember what you guys are fighting about?â Shay asked, her eyebrow ticking upwards.
âYes.â You responded, a little too quickly.
You didnât.
It had been a week since youâd stopped talking to Kelly. Sure, you were on Squad so you had to talk to Kelly on calls so the only time you talked was when it was professional but the moment the call was over and you were all in the truck, it was back to silence.
It had gone on for so long and Shay knew that it was still ongoing just because neither of you knew how to or wanted to back down.
It had reached a point you were wondering if it was even a good idea for you to be working under him when Herrmann approached you. âHey, emergency meeting.â
You frowned. âWhat emergency meeting?â
Hermann shrugged. âJust get in there.â
You sighed and pushed yourself off the seat, quickly heading towards the briefing room. You were only given a second to register the practically empty room⊠except for Kelly. You spun back around but the door was already shut.
Kelly spun around when he heard the click of the lock.
âWhat the hell?â Both of you said in unison.
âShay!â Kelly yelled, glaring at his best friend through the small window on the door.
Shay shook her head. âNeither of you are going anywhere until this is sorted out.â
âOr if we get a call.â You muttered, rolling your eyes.
You turned back to face your older brother. You hadnât admitted it to even yourself but it was weird not talking to him. It was weird that he wasnât the first person you went to when you heard something funny or when you were upset.
Both you and Kelly looked up at the same time, glaring, neither of you making the first move.
âIâm waiting.â You snapped.
Kellyâs eyebrows ticked upwards.
âYouâre the older one, you apologise.â You spoke again.
Kelly rolled his eyes. âDo you ever get tired of using that line?â He snapped back. âYou show me some respect, Iâm your older brother and your officer.â
You continued to look at him.
âFine.â Kelly conceded after a prolonged silence and staring match. âFine, Iâll be the bigger person. Iâm sorry, okay?â
It was as if the two of you were once again below the age of ten. The same thought must have crossed Kellyâs mind because he caught your eye and the both of you burst into laughter, still bickering lightly about whose fault it was that youâd both gotten locked up in here.
Shay was right. It was stupid, stupid enough that neither of you remembered but that was the beauty of having an older brother. He was stuck with you, as you were with him, no matter how stupid your fights ever got and you wouldnât trade being a Severide for the world.
