CONNOR RHODES MASTERLIST
âHey, Y/N.â You smiled at Maggie as you walked in and she spotted you immediately, pausing as she glanced at you. âYou okay?â
You smiled back and nodded. âIt must be the weather or something.â
Maggie nodded, even though her eyes watched you for a while longer. âConnorâs not down from surgery yet. You can wait for him in the lounge. Iâll call up to see if I can get an estimate.â
You smiled, nodding. âItâs fine, Maggie. Thanks!â Maggie took you to the lounge, putting a cup of water on the table for you. You thanked her as she headed back out and you put your head on the table, not sure why you were feeling off today.
Barely a minute had passed when a wave of nausea hit you and you closed your eyes, willing it away or pressing it down. Whatever it was.
You glanced down at the insulin pump you carried around and held back a sigh, afraid that you would end up emptying your stomach contents in the middle of the doctorâs lounge.
But it didnât seem to want to die down and after sitting there for a while, you figured youâd better get help.
You got to your feet shakily, and you could feel your heart ramming itself against your ribcage like youâd just run a full marathon. Something was definitely wrong.
Connor tapped his foot impatiently as he watched the numbers on the elevator go down.
The surgery had dragged on for longer than expected since there was an unexpected complication. Heâd managed to get the patientâs condition back under control and ended the surgery successfully, except that he was late.
He knew that you wouldnât get mad or impatient but he didnât like to keep you waiting. Especially since you should eat on time so you could take your medication. Besides, heâd missed you when he left early that morning so part of this impatience was that he was looking forward to seeing you.
The lift door opened, Connor spotting you almost immediately as he stepped into the ED. You were standing at the nurses' station just outside the doctor's lounge, but Connor paused.
Something was wrong.
You looked like you were propping yourself up against the nursesâ station and Connor frowned, taking another step towards you, your name hanging almost off his tongue before he saw you crumple towards the ground.
âY/N!â
As Connor headed towards you, Maggie and Will were already getting you onto a stretcher and into a treatment room, with only a silent reassuring nod at Connor.
Connor could feel the thoughts racing a mile a minute in his head, running through all the possibilities of why youâd have collapsed. Youâd both been really careful about managing your diabetes but even so, nothing had been this serious.
It felt like the minutes were crawling by as he waited outside, before Will finally opened the door.
âSheâs awake.â
The two words made Connor feel like he could finally breathe again.
âDo we know what happened?â Connor asked, half afraid Will would say something more serious.
Will glanced up from the iPad in his hands. âListen, it looks like her pump gave out on her. Iâve put in the tests to confirm butâŚâ
Connor frowned. âWeâre careful about that.â
Will shook his head. âThis is not on either of you, alright? For whatever reason, I think the alarm failed to go off.â He paused, studying Connorâs face. âWeâre giving her fluids right now, and if the test confirms what we think then sheâll get electrolytes and insulin as well. Iâll order a new pump for her too. Why donât you go in and be with her, alright? I'll take care of everything else.â
Connor nodded. âThanks, Will.â
Will smiled and just patted Connor reassuringly on the shoulder.
The tests had indeed confirmed Willâs suspicions but with the insulin, electrolytes and fluids in your system, you were feeling much better.
Connor had been pretty quiet and you glanced up at him, from where you were sitting up in bed.
He looked up almost immediately, like heâd felt your eyes on him. Giving you a small smile, Connor got up, scooting to the side of your bed.
âYou okay?â He asked quietly, the way he did when you were feeling under the weather.
You reached out for his hand. âSorry.â
He frowned. âFor what?â
You exhaled. âJustâŚâ
Connor put a gentle finger to your lips, effectively stopping you from saying anything more and shook your head. âThis isnât your fault. And Will reminded me it isnât mine, either.â
You blinked back up at him.
âLook, for better or for worse. In sickness, or in health.â Connor paused, even as you felt the tears well up in your eyes. âThatâs what I promised. And I intend to live up to those vows, Y/N.â
Connor put one arm around your shoulders, the other reaching for your hand. âAnd for the record, in sickness doesnât mean for worse. I mean, I think we do great.â
âYou do great.â You whispered, Connor smiling and reaching up to catch the tear that had streaked down the side of your face.
âWe.â Connor corrected.
You smiled. âHow did I ever luck into you?â You asked quietly.
Connor smiled. âGoes both ways, baby. Both ways.â
You lay your head against Connorâs shoulders, knowing that no matter what he would always be your rock.

CONNOR RHODES MASTERLIST
It had been a long day. A long draining day and Connor was just looking forward to seeing you and having a quiet night together.
Figuring heâd check if you were ready, Connor left the doctorâs lounge still in his white coat, taking the lift right up to the ICU.
As he stepped in, he caught sight of you immediately, running towards one of the rooms where there was an obvious code blue, a rush of staff heading towards the room.
Connor stood to the side against an empty side of the station, quietly watching as you worked quickly to assist the doctor standing next to you.
It must have been a tough day for you too, Connor caught himself thinking as his eyes followed you. Anyone else would have missed it - the slight droop in your shoulders, or the way you stood telling him you had that persistent ache at that one point on your shoulders that kept coming back to haunt you.
Connor looked down as he picked up on the sounds of âClear!â from the doctor that was working on the patient. But Connor also knew well enough the chancesâŚ
He held back an audible sigh as the faint sound of a flat line made its way out to him. Now, the look in your eyes told him he really needed to get you out of there.
You looked up, catching sight of your husband now. Even just seeing him from afar made you want to cry, so you gave him a small smile and he nodded, telling you not to worry and that heâd be right there waiting.
If anyone asked how youâd gotten from the hospital back home, youâd have to ask them to ask Connor.
You were drained, both physically and mentally. The knotted ache in your shoulder that was consistently giving you issues was acting up again, you felt dead on your feet and the ICU had lost three patients today.
You werenât exactly emotionally attached. You were an experienced enough nurse to handle that well, but even so losing patients was draining no matter what.
âHere.â
Connor handed you a plate and you smiled up at your husband from where you were seated with your legs crossed on the couch.
Like a model husband, Connor had insisted on preparing dinner while you took a hot shower which had definitely made you feel a lot better even though the knot in your shoulder was still there.
âThanks, babe.â You answered, not realizing how hungry you were until the smell of pasta reached you as you took the plate in your hands.
The both of you ate in mostly silence, but Connor sat close by and that in itself made you feel better and you glanced at your husband, who returned you a smile.
Connor took the empty plate out of your hands and you frowned.
âYou already cooked.â
Connor shook his head. âJust fulfilling my husband duties.â
âI knew I married you for a reason.â You announced in a sort of teasing fashion that would have been more convincing if you werenât so exhausted.
Connor just smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of your head before you heard him patter off to the kitchen, flipping on the stereo on his way.
Music was now playing softly in the apartment and you closed your eyes for a while, the faint sound of running water from the kitchen mixing together with the soft music tones. This was the kind of evening you needed, especially today.
You opened your eyes again when you felt Connorâs hands touch your shoulder from behind you and you glanced up at him.
âWhatâs going on?â You asked with a smile. âIs today a special day I donât know about?â
The words were barely out of your mouth before your brain started working, trying to figure out if you had forgotten a date or something.
Connor shook his head. âRelax. The acheâs been bothering you today, hasnât it?â
You felt his thumb press firmly against the knot, and you exhaled, the stress seeming to leave your body almost instantaneously.
You closed your eyes, feeling Connorâs fingers seemingly press out all the negative feelings and stress from the day.
Angling your head upwards again, you reached up for his hand. âYou must be tired too, come here.â
âYou sure?â
You smiled, tugging gently so that Connor would make his way back around to the front of the couch and next to you.
âThis is the best way you can help me recharge.â You said, fitting yourself right into his arms , both of you sprawled on the couch.
Connor smiled, his arms looping around your body. âMe too.â
You chuckled, resting the back of your head against his chest, feeling the edges of Connorâs stubble against your temple and knowing this was the perfect way to end a stressful day.

MATT CASEY MASTERLIST
Matt glanced at his phone, the lack of response to his message concerning him just a little. "Get a grip, Matt, maybe sheâs driving.â He muttered at himself, just as the bells went off.
All units, Multi-vehicle accident.
With no other time to let his mind wander, Matt hurried towards the truck, nodding at Stella as the sirens sounded and the trucks hurried towards the address that dispatch had given them. But it wasnât until Stella pulled the truck over at a distance away from the crash that Matt felt an irrational bad feeling blossom in his chest.
Matt pushed the feeling aside as he got out of the truck, wondering what the hell was wrong with him today. But he didnât have long to be distracted as they immediately got to work.
Heâd just sent most of them off in pairs when he spotted it - the flash of color, the partial license plate that sent his heart down to his stomach, the realization that the bad feeling was no longer irrational, while there was a crashing in his ears.
Stella spotted the car almost at the same time that Matt did, her head swiveling back to look at her Captain, but Matt was already on the move, gripping the tool he had in his hand tighter as he avoided people and vehicles alike, before he got there.
âY/N!â
The car was lying on its side and Matt got on his knees to peer in, his heart thumping hard against his chest even though heâd done this a million times before.
âAlex?â
His four year old blinked back at him, looking alert and Mattâs eyes left Alex just for a second to glance at where you were motionless in the driver's seat up front.
âHey buddy, you okay?â Matt said, peering in at his son.
âDaddy?â
Matt nodded back at Alex. âListen, I need you to stay still alright?â
âYou get me?â Alex asked, although he didnât move as his father had instructed, continuing to lie on his stomach.
âYes, Iâm coming to get you, alright? Does anything hurt?"
Alex shook his head slowly and Matt nodded again. âWill you be a brave boy?â
He nodded quietly and Matt turned his attention towards you with a nod at Kelly.
Matt could hear Kelly talking to Alex, so he headed towards the front of the car. âY/N, can you hear me?â
Matt glanced at Sylvie when you didnât respond, the unease written all over his face.
âCasey, we got this.â Stella assured him, as the rest of the team worked even faster now, the loud sounds of their tools seeming to overwhelm the sounds of the other truck sirens that were coming to help.
As Cruz pulled off the back door, Kelly reached in for Alex, who was more than happy to wriggle his way towards his favorite uncle.
Kelly pulled Alex into his arms, his eyes raking the little boy for any sign of injuries before Violet reached them to check him out, Violet then bringing Alex straight to Matt.
âHey buddy.â Matt said, keeping his voice low even as his eyes darted towards where Stella and Mouch were working on getting you out.
Matt felt the fear spread throughout his body even as he propped Alex into his arms. âHe just has a few scratches and heâs fine but we should still go to Med.â Violet told Matt, as if she knew he needed a distraction.
Matt smiled. âThanks, Violet.â
He offered Alex a reassuring smile, turning his body at an angle so that Alex couldnât see them lift you out of the car.
Stella looked up with a small shake of her head.
You still werenât responsive.
âMatt, you can come with us. We should get Alex checked out too.â Sylvie said. With a silent nod from Boden, Matt climbed in after you, reaching forward for your hand quietly, Alex sitting in his lap.
The hardest part for Matt was juggling a toddler and being worried for you, like Matt had to choose between being a father or a husband, when he was both.
Youâd been wheeled straight into a treatment room with Connor and Ethan assuring that you were in good hands, while Maggie directed him into a room with Dylan.
âHey. Iâm Dylan. You must be Alex.â
Alex glanced up at Matt who gave him an encouraging nod and Alex smiled back at Dylan.
As Dylan spoke to Alex and checked him out, Matt found his eyes wandering towards the treatment you were in, the hurried movements from across the ED not comforting at all. But he couldnât leave his son here to go check on you.
âCase.â
Matt heard his best friendâs voice first before he registered his presence.
âWhy donât you go check on her?â Kelly said, reading his thoughts immediately, recalling the time Stella had been brought in. âAlex and I can hang out. What do you say?â
âYeah!â Alexâs excitement when it came to Kelly had never come more in handy.
âThanks, Sev.â Matt said, Kelly patting him on the shoulder.
Before he left, Matt pressed a quick kiss on his son's head. "I'll be right back." But Alex didn't seem too bothered, distracted by Kelly and Dylan.
Matt hurried across the ED, just as Connor came out from the treatment room. âCasey, good. I need to bring her up to surgery, alright? Thereâs some broken bones and sheâs bleeding internally. I need to go in and stop the bleeding. Can I do that?â
Matt nodded quickly. âWhatever you have to do, Connor. IâŚâ
Connor nodded back. âCasey, I got her.â
Matt leaned over to give your hand a squeeze, even though you still didnât seem to be conscious. âAlex and I will be right here, baby.â He whispered, before they quickly wheeled you off.
When you become conscious of your surroundings once again, you were confused at first. Your vision swam for a bit before the ceiling became clearer and your brain registered the smell that could mean you were only in one place - the hospital.
âY/N?â
You blinked, angling your head to the side as Matt shot out of the chair he was in. You could feel the warmth of his hand and you smiled, your fingers closing around his until the memory of how you got here hit you like it had just happened.
You exhaled sharply and Matt stiffened, frowning.
âAlex. Matt, Alex he⌠he was in the backseat. HeâŚâ
âShh.â Matt squeezed your hand tighter. âItâs okay. Alex is fine, alright? Kelly just brought him out to get a snack. But heâs fine. Dr Scott looked him over. He had a few scratches but that was it. Breathe.â
Relief flooded your system now as your body relaxed, only the pain left throbbing through your system.
But at least Alex was safe. That was something.
Matt sighed, his hand going to the top of your head as he leaned in and pressed a kiss to your forehead. âThank god.â He whispered.
The whisper brought with it the unease and fear heâd been holding on to ever since heâd spotted your car lying on its side in the middle of the road.
âSorry.â You whispered back, as Matt looked back down at you, as if he was afraid to take his eyes off you.
Matt shook his head with a small smile. âIâm just glad youâre okay.â
He looked like he wanted to say something more before he was interrupted by Kelly and Alex coming back in. âMama!â
You smiled, as Matt took Alex from Kellyâs arms.
âHey you.â Kelly said, leaning in for a gentle hug.
âThanks Uncle Kelly.â You answered, smiling as Kelly gave you an affectionate tap.
Matt lowered Alex onto your bed where he gently cuddled into your side and Matt just smiled, before he leaned in to put the both of you into his embrace.

HALSTEAD!SISTER MASTERLIST
You climbed out of the car, not forgetting to turn back around to give Matt a goodbye kiss. âThanks for the detour.â
âAlways.â Matt smiled back at you.
âStay safe.â You whispered back before you closed the door and turned around to the sight of both your brothers staring back at you.
Will was clearly much calmer, just blinking back at you with his eyebrows raised. Meanwhile, Jay had his arms crossed, looking like he was about to kill someone.
Damn it.
You straightened your expression as you headed towards them, turning to Jay first. âWhat are you doing here?â
Jay ignored your question. âSomething you want to tell us?â
You exhaled loudly, glancing between your brothers. âMatt and I are seeing each other.â
âY/N, are you sure about this? A firefighter?â
You rolled your eyes. âHow is that different from you getting guns waved in your face every other day? Weâre not even spared from violence in the ED when we haveâŚâ
âDo not jinx it.â Will warned you and you shut your mouth mid-sentence.
âYou should have told us so that I could have a word with him. If he even dares toâŚâ Jay paused as he spotted the look on your face.
You glared up at him. âThis is exactly why I didnât tell you.â
Jay froze and you sighed. âLook, I love you guys alright? And I appreciate you looking out for me but Iâm an adult. I know what Iâm doing. Can you trust me?â
âI trust you.â Jay said. âItâs him that I donâtâŚâ
Will elbowed Jay in the ribs to get him to stop talking but it was a little too late.
You stared back incredulously at Jay. âWe are talking about the same Matt Casey, arenât we? You know, Matthew Casey, Lieutenant of Truck 81? The Matt Casey who always has to do the right thing? The Matt Casey you happen to know?â
Jay scrunched his face up as Will stepped in. âWeâre going to be late. Weâll talk about this later, alright?â Will directed the last question at his younger brother.
Jay glanced at Will but nodded, reaching out to put a hand on your head. âSee you later?â
You gave him an exasperated look but smiled. âYeah, okay. Stay safe.â
Jay smiled back at you before he patted Will on his shoulder and headed back out.
You knew Will had been trying hard to steer clear of asking you questions all day but you could practically hear the tension in his brain.
âWhat?â You asked him, spinning around from the computer in the lounge to look at him.
Will shrugged then looked up. âHow long have you been seeing each other?â
You sighed and smiled. âA few months. I wasnât trying to keep it from you and Jay, I just⌠we wanted things to kind of stabilize a little first, you know?â
Will nodded. âYeah, I know but you canât make us stop worrying about you.â
You gave a small laugh. âI know, I justâŚâ
You were interrupted by the sound that meant there were emergent patients coming in, so both you and Will sprang to your feet and headed out the door and back into the ED.
You glanced at the patientâs chart before you looked back at him.
It didnât make sense. Based on all the tests and vital signs, he should already have regained consciousness and yet your patient hadnât. You were just turning away to leave when you heard a sound behind you and turned back towards him.
One second you were turning behind you, the next he was already lunging at you, never mind the wires he was dragging along behind him.
You barely heard the sound of crashing equipment before you were on the ground yourself, the back of your head making an impact with the floor of the ED but you didnât have time for anything else as his large hands went around your neck, practically blocking off your airway.
You could feel the air being sucked out of your lungs, thinking that the last thing you were going to see was this guyâs face. Just as the white spots appeared across your vision, the air rushed back into your lungs and you heard Willâs frantic voice.
âY/N, are you with me? Y/N!â
You coughed, trying to get up but Will pressed your shoulders back down gently. âDonât move, let me check you out.â
âIâm⌠Iâm fine.â You panted. âI just⌠I just need a minute.â
You glanced up at Will and nodded when you thought you were steady enough to stand.
âCome on, letâs get you out of here.â Will muttered, leaning down to pull you up, his arm still tightly around you before he led you towards the doctorâs lounge.
Will glanced down at you as he helped you into a chair in the lounge. Save for your body still shaking a little, you felt pretty okay but Will squatted next to you. âWe should get you checked out.â
You shook your head but stopped as your head gave a light throb. âIâm fine.â
If Will hadnât been so worried he would have rolled his eyes. Instead, he looked back into your eyes, his fingers touching your head gently to make sure you werenât more injured than youâd let on.
âWhat the hell happened?â You asked.
Will sighed. âWe think he might have been in a dissociative state. I donât think he knew what he was doing.â
You gritted your teeth gently. You couldnât even be mad at him.
âYouâre really not going to let me check you out properly? You might have a concussion.â Will said, his voice gentle but still firm.
You were about to answer when the door opened and Matt came flying through it.
âHey, you okay?â
You frowned, glancing up. âMatt? What are youâŚâ
âI was just stopping by and Maggie told me.â Matt explained, his eyes grazing across yours worriedly as he leaned towards you. âAre you okay?â
You gave him a small nod. âJust a bit shaken andâŚâ
âHave you gotten checked out?â
You gave him a look, which Matt returned you. âCome on, Y/N. Just get a workup in case.â
âFine.â You exhaled, not missing Willâs eye roll behind Matt. âI saw that.â You shot at your brother.
Will glanced at you. âIâve been telling you the same thing for over fifteen minutes.â
You made a face before you let both Will and Matt take you to a treatment room.
Jay came bursting in a short while later. âIâm fine.â You groaned.
Jay didnât comment about Matt being in the room, just glanced at Will and then back at you. âWho did this?â He growled.
Will didnât answer the question. âItâs a mild concussion so sheâs okay. But off work for the next few days.â
You narrowed your eyes at him but all it did was make your head hurt and you sighed. âFine.â
âTheyâre pulling in a lieutenant to cover me for the rest of the shift so Iâll take you home.â Matt said, before he realized that in the chaos of making sure you were okay, heâd forgotten that your brothers hadnât exactly been told about the nature of your relationship.
Matt glanced down at you and you gave a small chuckle. âOh right. So⌠my brothers caught you dropping me off this morning. So I guess everything just came together like this.â
Will just gave Matt a small smile. The way Matt had been with you on a day like today seemed to have made it clear for your oldest brother.
You glanced hopefully at Jay, who seemed to be having his own internal struggle before he stuck his hand out towards Matt and you knew reason had finally won. Not that youâd doubted him. Jay just needed time getting there, especially when it came to you. âYou take care of her.â Jay said, his voice low.
âAlways.â Matt answered, shaking Jayâs hand and you were sure Jayâs grip was stronger than it usually was.
âThatâs more like it.â You answered, grinning back at Jay, who made a face but reached forward to take your hand and squeeze it anyway and you knew that things would only look up from here.
All in a dayâs work.

STELLARIDE MASTERLIST
You looked up from where youâd been playing with the food on your plate, only to catch Stella smile at your father who was sitting next to you.
Resisting the urge to make a face, you turned to look at him. âCan I be excused?â
Kelly gave a small sigh and turned to look at you, looking like he wanted to say something and then deciding against it, merely nodding. âYeah, go on.â
You gave his girlfriend a last withering look before you took your plate back into the kitchen.
Kelly suppressed an audible sigh before he looked back at Stella. âSorry.â
Stella smiled and shook her head. âShe just needs some time.â
You rolled your eyes and headed back to your room, plopping yourself down on your bed and staring up at your ceiling.
It wasnât really that you didnât like Stella. Hell, youâd been okay with her before you found out she was dating your father.
As far as daughters went, you were sure that you were at least three times more protective over your father than your classmates were about their own parents.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that you only ever had Kelly growing up. Youâd overheard countless discussions about people telling him that it was hard being a single parent especially with his job but whatever anyone said, and however Kelly had felt from the first time heâd found out heâd had a daughter and come to get you, Kelly had stuck it out with you.
Over the years, especially once you were older, youâd seen many girlfriends come and go - some didnât want commitment, some ran the moment they found out about you, some just⌠didnât make it. It didnât matter that Kelly had seemed fine with everything. You were not, so all that had done was make you even more protective over him.
So when youâd found out about Stella, youâd felt your hackles raise.
Logically, you knew Stella had done nothing to deserve this but your 15 year old brain couldnât seem to override the emotion with logic.
You lay there for a while more until there was a knock on your door and Kelly poked his head in.
âHey kiddo. Can we talk?â
You sat up but didnât give him an answer because you knew very well what he wanted to talk about and you werenât sure you wanted to hear it.
Kelly came in anyway, pulling out the chair at your desk and sitting across from you.
âWill you give Stella a break?â
You looked up with a look of protest and Kelly held up a hand.
âI know.â Kelly said in a low voice, giving you a small smile to show you he wasnât mad. âJust lighten up a little and give her a chance. Thatâs all Iâm asking.â
You didnât say anything but Kelly let out a chuckle as you pursed your lips. âGo easy.â
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head before patting your hair affectionately and leaving the room.
You pulled your jacket tighter around you, glancing behind you.
You hadnât meant to let it get so late but youâd gotten a little too immersed in your notes and lost track of time. Other than the wind blowing against your back and making you shiver, you hadnât realized how quiet the road from your friendâs house was.
You kind of regretted not calling Kelly to come and get you, but you also didnât relish the idea of waiting here so youâd forged on, telling yourself youâd walked this street thousands of times.
But now, you were pretty sure someone was following you, hearing the echoing footsteps behind you.
Damn it.
Your hands that were jammed into your pockets closed around your phone but you were also worried things would escalate so you picked up your pace instead.
You heard the footsteps behind you match the increase in your speed and just as you thought you should break into a run, you were yanked backwards and unable to maintain your balance, you tumbled onto the concrete pavement, feeling the concrete scrape against your skin.
Your head snapped upwards, feeling your heart fall straight into your gut when you looked back into the face of the man that now towered over you.
It was a stranger, not a face you remembered seeing, but his lips ticked upwards in a smile that flipped your stomach over and your gut feeling as well as every nerve in your body was screaming at you to get up and run.
Flight.
You scrambled to your feet, slowly moving backwards as he now stepped towards you. His movements had slowed, like a predator that had just cornered his prey.
He took another step towards you and with well chosen timing, you brought your knee up swiftly, just like how Kelly had taught you.
Winded, the man bent over but not before letting out a growl.
You didnât stick around long enough to find out what he had to say, your legs already moving before your brain realized you were running.
The wind blowing against you was painful but you didnât dare stop because you werenât sure if he was on your heels.
You turned the corner, sparing a glance back and collided straight into someone.
âSorry.â You panted, glancing up.
âY/N?â Stella looked surprised to see you before her expression switched to one of concern. âWhatâs wrong?â
Stella glanced up at the empty street behind you and then looked back at you. âYou okay?â
You really didnât have the energy for anything else. You just really needed an adult. You glanced up at her without talking and Stella reached for your hand.
When you didnât pull away, Stella squeezed. âDo you want me to take you home?â
You shook your head quickly. âNo. Wait. I just⌠I donât want Dad to see me like this.â
Stella studied you for just a second more before she nodded. âMy apartmentâs just around the corner. Why donât you come and have something at my place and we can talk? If you want to.â
You hesitated for just a second but you were still kind of spooked so you nodded, letting her lead you back down from where she came from, not even realizing your hand was still in hers.
Stella wasnât exaggerating when she said her apartment was around the corner.
Within five minutes, you were seated on Stellaâs couch, a cup of hot tea in your hands while you found yourself telling her what happened.
It was weird - youâd expected Stella to maybe pat your shoulders a little to reassure you that things would be fine before trying to convince you to call Kelly so he could come and get you. She wouldn't be the first girlfriend to hand you back over to your father as soon as she could.
But the emotions on Stellaâs face as you told her were new to you - looks of concern, before outrage and then⌠if you didnât know any better, youâd think she was upset.
You fell quiet after a while and Stella scooted a little closer to you.
âAlright, Y/N, listen.â Stella said and you looked up at her. âWe have to report this.â
You looked back down again, your index fingers twirling together even though you were still holding the mug.
âIâll come with you.â Stella paused. âIf youâll let me.â
You looked up again and nodded quietly. "You⌠Youâd do that?â
You registered a look of surprise on Stellaâs face before she next spoke. âOf course, Y/N.â
âCan we not call my dad yet?â
There was a small silence and you held back a sigh. You knew what would happen if your father found out about this. Other than the fact that you hated making him worry and that you knew things might get blown up out of proportion with practically everyone getting involved, it was kind of awkward talking to him about some stuff.
Stella glanced at you. âHow about we take things one step at a time?â
You bit your lip and Stella nodded encouragingly at you. âLetâs go to the district and then when youâre ready, we can call Kelly alright?â
You nodded quietly, taking another sip of tea before Stella smiled. âReady?â
You got up and Stella grabbed an extra coat off her coat hanger, draping it around your shoulders.
Stella had been told to wait outside while you gave your statement to the uniformed police officer sitting across from you but you were regretting this with each question the officer asked you.
âWhat were you doing out so late?â
âIs this what you normally wear to school?
You were done with the insinuations in his voice and tone. You were 15, not an idiot. You knew exactly where this was going and youâd been around your fatherâs friends long enough to pick some stuff up.
You stood all of a sudden, the nails digging into your palms in an effort not to let the angry tears out. âIâm not answering any more questions.â
âWhat do youâŚâ
You didnât let him finish his sentence, opening the door and stalking out.
As promised, Stella was right outside, glancing up as you walked out, reading the expression on your face instantly.
âYou okay?â
You pulled Stellaâs jacket tighter around yourself. âI just want to go home.â
Stella frowned, glancing up at the officer that was now outside the room as well. âYou still have to answer a few questions. You canât justâŚâ
You didnât move and Stella looked back down at you. âY/N?â
âHe hasnât asked me a single question about what happened.â You said in a low voice, focusing only on Stella now. âNo questions about how the man looked, what street this took place on, how he sounded.â
Stella frowned. Those were enough for her to put together a few pieces of the puzzle.
âThose are necessary questions. We need to know ifâŚâ
âKidd. Y/N.â
You glanced up at a familiar face and Stella patted your back. âTold you I got you.â She whispered in a low voice so only you could hear.
Stella nodded with a smile at Hailey.
Telling the officer sheâd take over, Hailey led you back into the room and smiled encouragingly at you.
âStella called me. Will you tell me what happened?â
It was easier than youâd expected to talk to Hailey but even as you told her what happen, you found yourself internally steeling yourself for a lecture of some sort and you suddenly just really wished Kelly was here.
But Hailey offered no lecture or talking-to. Instead, she treated you like an adult, taking down the information you offered, her questions only revolving around important information she obviously needed, before she closed the book.
âThank you, Y/N. Here.â Hailey handed you a small bottle and a small device. âPepper spray and a small panic button.â
You looked up a little surprised and Hailey smiled. âIf nothing, maybe itâll help you feel safer.â
You nodded, keeping the things she handed you and Hailey came around and squeezed your shoulder before taking you out of the room again where Stella was waiting.
âDad must be worried, IâŚâ
Stella shook her head with a smile. âI told him youâre with me so he wouldnât. I can call him if youâre ready.â
You felt involuntary tears well up in your eyes before you nodded. "Can you? I... I think I really need him."
Kelly was here in record time, running up the steps of the district as if heâd been waiting nearby in the first place but you didnât care. The rush of relief and safety when you saw him made you wonder why you hadnât gone to him immediately anyway.
âY/N!â
You didnât say anything, merely shooting off your seat to dive into your fatherâs arms like you were a child once again.
âYou okay? Let me see.â Kelly pulled away just a little to look at you but other than remnants of the startled look in your eyes and new tears ready to spill over, you werenât really hurt.
Kelly gently pulled you back into his arms and exhaled. âThank god.â
He was never one for long verbal communications of how much he loved you but you didnât really need him to tell you. This was even more apparent now as you were huddled in your fatherâs arms in the middle of a police district.
âYou must be starving.â Kelly said after a while, looking down at you to wipe a stray tear off your face. âWhy donât we go get something to eat, hmm?â
You gave a small crooked smile and Kelly looked up, meeting Stellaâs eyes.
âIâll call you tomorrow.â Kelly said with a small apologetic smile at Stella. âThank you.â
Stella nodded, but you interrupted them. âYouâre not coming to eat with us?â
Kelly raised his eyebrows.
âThought Iâd give you two some private time.â Stella said, although she seemed to be weighing the look in your eyes now.
You shrugged. âYou can come eat with us, too.â
Kelly glanced between his girlfriend and daughter. âDid something happen?â
You shrugged, lowering your voice. âSheâs alright I guess.â
Kelly chuckled, swinging an arm around your shoulders as he led you out of the district. Stella fell into step on your other side and you smiled up at her. âThank you.â You whispered, fully aware your father could hear you.
Stella smiled. âThank you, too.â
Kelly just smiled at both his girls as the three of you walked down the empty streets. Together.

DEAN WINCHESTER MASTERLIST
This was new.
Youâd made pie for Dean thousands of times, even when the both of you used to hunt together. But youâd never wanted to eat it as much as you did now.
You glanced down at your belly that was already showing and shook your head. âThis is all you, isnât it?â You asked quietly as you closed the oven door again to keep the pie warm.
You felt a kick within your belly, as if he was answering you and you smiled. Deanâs son, through and through.
Right on cue, you heard the door open, the familiar sounds of Deanâs footsteps as he trod through the hall and into the kitchen.
âHey.â Dean said, a smile spreading across his face as he saw you and he leaned in for a kiss. âIs thatâŚâ
You grinned back at him. âMaybe?â
Dean chuckled. âYou are the best." He announced pressed another kiss on your cheek. "Sammy said heâs coming over with Eileen so let me wash up and I'll take the steaks out.â
âI can do it.â You told him, to which Dean shook his head.
âNuh-uh. Leave me some stuff to do, seriously.â Dean said with a wink. âIâll wash off the grease and be down in a bit.â
You smiled as you watched Dean head back out and up the stairs.
Dean had somehow created a miraculous life for the both of you, almost as if there was nothing out there in the dark of the night anymore, even though you knew everything was stored in the Impala that was parked in the garage.
Dean and Sam still went on hunts, especially when they hit a little too close to home, but Dean had had a close call in what all of you jokingly called the last hunt. It was the day that youâd almost lost Dean and thinking about it now still caused the pooling of tears in your eyes and sent your heart racing.
But after that, Dean had made a life for you both here. Something even he had thought impossible before. Yet here you were now, a ring sitting on your finger, awaiting the arrival of your son.
You were brought out of your thoughts by the sound of Dean reentering the kitchen, putting a gentle hand on your belly now that heâd taken a shower as he hummed and started to prepare the food.
Youâd had an extremely normal and nice dinner with Sam and Eileen, until the pie came out.
Dean was already about two mouthfuls in when he noticed you were watching him. âWhat?â
âNothing.â You said, a little too quickly.
Dean narrowed his eyes and Sam let out a short laugh, his arm draped over the back of Eileenâs chair. âY/N, you have never wanted his pie more.â
Dean looked up at you and frowned. âWait, seriously?â
You didnât answer him.
âYou donât even eat pie. Youâve neverâŚâ
âI know.â You answered, narrowing your eyes at Dean.
Sam watched, his eyes almost sparkling with amusement, ready to see Dean narrow his eyes like what he did with literally everyone. Dean put the piece of pie that was already sitting on his fork into his mouth, reaching forward to dig his fork into the pie again without saying anything.
As if heâd expected it, Sam smiled but then paused when Dean reached forward to feed you.
Sam raised his eyebrows but didnât say anything and you burst into a fit of giggles, Dean laughing as he put another piece of pie into his mouth, even though Sam had opened his mouth.
âSeriously, Dean?â
Dean shrugged. âYou donât even eat pie.â He shot at his brother.
âNeither does Y/N!â Sam argued but you patted your belly as an answer, to which Sam raised his hands in defeat, the laughter from the four of you filling your house, the warmth that filled the place having nothing to do with the thermostat sitting on the wall.
Youâd been in the middle of dinner with Dean when youâd felt the first sign of contractions, backed up by your water breaking and heâd whisked you off to the hospital, staying by your side throughout.
When Sam and Eileen had come by after his first feed, youâd glanced at Dean before you smiled at Sam.
âHey Sam. Get over here.â Youâd said, nodding at Sam. âMeet Jackson Winchester. You know, Jack for short.â
Sam glanced at his brother, who nodded with a small smile.
âWhy donât you take him? Uncle Sammy should carry his godson.â You said quietly.
Sam paused from where he was bent towards you, Jackson now looking tiny in his arms. âYou guys⌠seriously?â
You smiled. âWe were hoping.â
Sam smiled. âNo question. Of course. Iâd be⌠Iâd be really happy to.â
You watched Sam cradle Jackson in his arms, Eileen smiling by his side, with her own belly showing just slightly and you just smiled, feeling safe and warm surrounded by family.
One year old Jackson sat perched on his fatherâs lap, as the oven dinged and you took out a beautifully baked pie.
âJack, why donât you come with Mama, okay? Let DaddyâŚâ The words were barely out of your mouth when Jackson turned into his fatherâs embrace and Dean just chuckled, smiling at you.
âFine, but the plate is hot, so no touching you hear me?â You spoke to your son, who nodded now that he was reassured that he wasnât going to be plucked from his fatherâs lap.
âY/N, seriously, your pies? I love that Iâm the only one who gets to taste this heavâŚâ Dean paused. âYou know what, there literally is no other word. This heavenly goodness. Seriously, I would totally pay for this.â
You laughed, leaning in to press a kiss on Deanâs lips. "And I'm glad I don't have to." Dean finished as you pulled back away.
You could taste the aftermath of your pie still on his lips. âHmm.â You hummed, before you pulled away, putting a gentle hand on Jacksonâs head before you went in to get water for your boys.
It was when you were coming back out from the kitchen that you took in the sight in front of you.
Jackson seated on his fatherâs lap, Dean putting pieces of pie into his mouth, and Jacksonâs eyes following the pie all the way from the plate to his father's mouth.
You burst out laughing, making Dean look up. âWhat?â
âYouâre going to have to share your pie soon.â You commented, pointing towards your son who was still looking at the pie.
Dean laughed. âMy son.â He proclaimed almost proudly.
You laughed. âWatch out, Dean.â
Dean just laughed, taking a chunk small enough that Jackson could eat and you just smiled.
Your boys.
Thank god you were good at baking.

KELLY SEVERIDE MASTERLIST
âYo, Sev.â
Kelly blinked back at his best friend who was now sitting across from him. A look crossed Mattâs face as he turned back to see what or who Kelly had been watching, before a small smile flit across his face.
âYou knowâŚâ Matt started, but Kelly shook his head, cutting him off.
âWe are not doing this again.â Kelly told his best friend.
You glanced over your shoulder, your eyes finding Kelly naturally where he was talking to Matt, before Gabby motioned towards you and you slid off your chair to head towards her and Sylvie, just for a bit.
Matt glanced back one last time, just as Gabby had called you away before he turned back towards Kelly.
You and Kelly had been friends for a long time and Kelly had been carrying feelings for you for a long time. Kelly still remembered Shay nagging him about it as if it was yesterday and he knew if Shay was here now sheâd already be kicking his non-moving ass. But the timing had never seemed right.
Every single time that heâd thought of telling you, something had gotten in the way. So somewhere along the way, Kelly had somehow convinced himself that the universe was telling him not to do it. Besides, it felt stupid to rock a peaceful boat.
Matt was in the middle of his sentence when Kelly frowned, his head swiveling back towards the bar.
âSeriously, Sev, youâŚâ Mattâs voice trailed off as he saw what had caught Kellyâs eye.
A sandy-haired guy was now leaning casually against the bar, where your unattended drink lay as he looked around, before he dropped a pill into your drink, the tablet fizzling in your beer now.
âThat did not justâŚâ Matt glanced at Kelly, speaking in a low voice.
Kelly pushed his chair backwards and swam through the crowd of people that were entering Mollyâs now, reaching you just as youâd returned back to your original seat and put the glass up to your lips, the guy long gone.
Kelly snatched it back out of your hands and away from you, the liquid sloshing around in your glass.
âWhat the hell, Kelly?â You growled, pulling back a little when you noticed the look in his eyes. âWhat?â
Kelly cast a dark look behind him but the guy had been lost in the crowd. Matt came up to him, shaking his head and Kelly looked back down at the drink.
âGet her out of here. Iâll call Antonio.â Matt said, patting Kellyâs shoulder.
You raised your eyebrows, exchanging a confused look with Gabby before Kelly practically shoved you out of Mollyâs, which wasnât easy in the first place since the place was packed.
As the cold outside air hit you, you spun around to look at Kelly. âWill you tell me whatâs going on now?â
You didnât sound as harsh as you had inside because there was a look in his eyes that told you he wasnât trying to be funny.
Kelly glanced down at you. âI told you not to leave your drinks unattended.â His voice was reproachful but you could hear he was worried.
âI⌠wait, what?â
Kelly gave you a pointed look, glancing down at the empty street. âCome on, letâs go.â
Being roommates had its perks, you mused as Kelly fell into step next to you, letting go of your elbow when he realized he was still holding onto you and that you were sober.
You glanced up at Kelly but he was looking straight ahead and you just smiled to yourself, catching yourself wondering why you were still hopelessly in love with your best friend when you knew that he would never see you as anything more than that.
Antonio had called Matt and Kelly to let them know that based on the footage Herrmann had provided them, the limited eyewitness accounts and the MO, this was a guy that Intelligence had been trying to find in connection with a couple of sexual assaults, adding that if they were lucky they could add kidnapping to the existing charges.
But this guy was smart. Heâd made sure to only strike in crowded bars, where women were alone or easily distracted. There were limited eyewitness accounts, and bars made it easy for friends to overlook someone whoâd disappeared since she could easily have gone off willingly with a date.
Kelly glanced at his watch as he headed up to Mollyâs. He was a little later than he would have liked but heâd been held back by a case from OFI.
Mollyâs was packed as usual for a Friday night and he frowned when he didnât spot you immediately so he headed towards the bar. Maybe youâd taken off because he was late.
âDawson, you seen Y/N tonight?â
Gabby looked up from where she was quickly mixing a drink. âYeah, sheâs rightâŚâ Her voice trailed off as her eyes found your empty chair.
Kelly glanced in that direction, noticing your phone lying on the table.
âShe was right there a second ago.â Gabby told him. âKelly, Iâm sorry weâre swamped tonight and IâŚâ
Kelly shook his head. âIâm gonna go look for her. If anyone in Intelligence or Casey comes inâŚâ
Gabby nodded quickly, as Kelly disappeared towards the back.
Heâd barely taken two steps out towards where the dumpsters were when he caught a movement, the same sandy hair he recognized from a week ago, with you slumped against his body as he tried to push you into a car.
Damn it.
âHey!â
Kelly charged towards them as the guy tried his best to remain nonchalant.
âCan I help you? As you can see, I'm trying to take my girl home.â He said, glancing down at you before back at Kelly. "You know how it is."
A low growl escaped Kellyâs lips. âGet your hands off her.â Kelly leaned forward to take your hand, tugging you out of the strangerâs grasp and into his arms, amid your mumbled protests about getting into a car.
Kelly tightened an arm around you as the guy glanced down the street warily and he tugged you further back, away from the stranger.
âI suggest you donât get involved.â He warned Kelly. âJust mind your own business.â
His arm still holding you tightly against him, Kelly growled. âShe is my business. She is my girl, you picked the wrong ass target.â He glanced down at you before sweeping his head back up to look at the guy standing in front of him now, feeling the anger course through his body.
The guy stepped forward and Kelly growled in warning. On any other day, Kelly could take this guy down but now with you in towâŚ
Kelly stiffened, angling his body to try to shield you, before the sirens hit, the truck that Kelly recognized as Jayâs pulling up right at the front of the alley, as shouts of âChicago PD!â came from all sides.
Kelly exhaled, putting another arm around you to steady you, as your head lolled against him.
âYou guys okay?â Antonio turned to glance at Kelly as Adam shoved the guy against his own car and cuffed him.
Kelly glanced down at you. âY/N, you with me?â
You mumbled something and Kelly shook his head. âThat son of a bitch gave her something.â
Antonio nodded at Jay to take the both of you to Med straight away and Kelly swept you easily into his arms and into Jayâs truck, before Jay pressed down on the accelerator heading straight for the hospital.
Kelly glanced at you, lying in bed, your eyes still closed.
Will had already been by to explain that the dosage hadnât been high but that theyâd flushed out the residual drugs in your system.
âWeâre getting fluids into her system. Her vitals are strong, she should be fine.â
Kelly looked up when there was a knock at the door and Jay slipped in.
There was silence for a beat before Kelly spoke. âSo what happened, Jay? Did Dawson call?â
âWe'd already narrowed him down as a suspect, but we couldnât arrest him with nothing. So weâd been tracking him.â
Kelly glanced at Jay now. âSo what, Y/N was bait?â
Jay put his hands up. âWoah, Kelly. Not by a long shot.â He paused. âWe didnât expect him to hit the same bar, or the same girl. We already had a tracker on him, so when we noticed him heading for Mollyâs, we hightailed it there. As far as I know, Gabby called while we were already on the way.â
Kelly glanced down at you before he glanced up and nodded. âSorry.â He paused. âAnd thanks. I wasnât sure how I was going to handle it with her unconscious and this guyâŚâ
Jay patted Kelly on the shoulder, just as you stirred.
âY/N?â Kellyâs head snapped up and Jay nodded, quietly leaving the room to give the both of you some privacy.
Your eyes fluttered open, before you sat up with a shock. âWait, what⌠Kelly?â
âShhh, itâs okay. Weâre at Med, alright?â
You felt your heart rate slow, conscious of the fact that your hand was held tightly in Kellyâs. âIâŚâ
Kelly gave you a look. âI thought we agreed to be careful with our drinks.â
âI was.â You argued, though your voice was still soft as your head pounded. âI swear, I didnât leave my drink unattended. I donât even⌠wait.â
Kelly raised an eyebrow, moving closer towards you. âThere was this guyâŚâ You said, looking up at Kelly. âHe was hovering around me, maybe I took my eyes off for like a second, I⌠Iâm sorry, Kelly.â
Kelly couldnât even find it in himself to be mad at you like he normally would be, his features softening as he sighed. âIâm glad youâre alright.â
You gave him a small smile, pausing before you glanced at him. âDid you mean it?â
âHmm? What?â Kelly asked a little absentmindedly, turning to see if he could spot Will.
âWhat you said to that creep.â
Kelly froze, realizing that you hadnât been totally out of it.
You hadnât. In fact, youâd been awake for most of it, just lightheaded, lethargic, and feeling like you couldnât control your own body.
Kelly exhaled, realizing he was screwed. He didnât have much of a choice right now. So even with the irrational worry that something was going to go wrong, or the fear that this would change things between the both of you forever, he took a deep breath and glanced back down at you, right into your eyes.
âEvery word, Y/N. Every word.â
You felt your stomach tumble inside you, and heard your heart rate increase from the machine sitting right next to you that was totally betraying you right now.
âKellyâŚâ
Kelly shook his head. âLook, I donât want you to feel burdened by my feelings. Nothing has to change, we justâŚâ
âKelly Severide.â You interrupted him.
Kelly blinked back at you.
âFor once, will you let me finish before you jump like twenty steps ahead?â You nagged, although a small smile appeared on your face. âIâve always wanted to be that person.â
âWhat?â Kelly frowned, confused.
âYour person.â You clarified. âAlways. Shay wouldnât leave me alone about it.â
A look crossed over Kellyâs face that told you he finally got what you were saying and he smiled, closing the distance between you and pressing his lips firmly on yours, one hand cupping the side of your face.
âFinally.â You could almost hear Shayâs voice ring out in your ears.
You smiled against Kellyâs touch, as he pulled away and you looked back into his green eyes before he leaned down for a hug. âI love you.â He whispered, pressing his lips onto your temple now.
âI love you too, Kelly Severide. Always have." You whispered, as you saw Kelly smile.

HALSTEAD!SISTER MASTERLIST
âY/N?â
An incredulous look crossed Jayâs face, like he couldnât believe what he was seeing - you, standing right in front of his door.
Before you knew it, Jay was right in front of you, pulling you into his arms and lifting you off the ground as if you were a small child once again yet you couldnât help the laugh that burst out of you. A genuine laugh that you felt hadnât left your lips in months.
âWhat are you doing here?âÂ
You gave him a look. âSeriously? Weâre doing this out here? With my luggage?â
Jay smiled. âGive it here.â He took your carrier before he opened his door, pushing it open with his foot so you could step into his apartment.
Jayâs apartment was almost like how you remembered it, as if almost no time had passed since youâd gone off to study and decided to stay in Europe for some experience. You knew your brothers would have preferred for you to at least return to America but they also agreed that you needed to do what you felt was right.Â
But it really was nice to be home.Â
âDoes Will know youâre back?â Jay asked, handing you a glass of water. When you didnât answer immediately, he narrowed his eyes. âYou went to his place first, didnât you?â
You let out a small guilty laugh at his accusatory tone and shrugged. âI figured he was the one with more regulated hours. But I couldnât find a Halstead there. He moved?â
Jay nodded. âYeah, you know things happen.âÂ
You nodded absentmindedly. âAt least you didnât.â
âThatâs kind of the reason I didnât.â Jay said with a smile.
You looked up. âWhat if our baby sister couldnât find either of us?â
âIâm not a baby.â You shot back.
Jay let out a chortle. âYou will always be a baby.â He teased gently.
You didnât let on the exact reason why you were back and although Jay knew something was a little off, he didnât push. Instead, he called Will, with a vague phone call so that you could surprise your oldest brother as well.
âJay, Iâm coming in!â Will said, his strained voice from the other side of the door telling you that he was a little worried.
The door opened, Will freezing in the door frame for a second before a look of surprise with a happy smile. âY/N!â
You allowed the oldest Halstead to give you a tight hug, enveloping you in his arms and you felt another wave of security as well as ease wash over you, reaffirming your decision to come home.
Jay ordered in, so the three of you could spend some quiet time together, Jayâs apartment resounding with laughter like it usually did when the three of you were together.
âHow long are you back for?â Will asked, taking a sip of beer.
You shrugged. âI might be staying.â
You didnât miss the sparkle of hope in both their eyes as they glanced at each other.
âI mean if I can crash here.â You said, a slightly cheeky tone slipping into your voice.Â
Jay rolled his eyes. âYou can have the whole freaking apartment if you want.â
You laughed. âYeah, I just⌠well I missed you and I thought it was time. But I came here with no plan so youâll have to feed me until I find a job.â
Will smiled. âI think the ED has a spot.âÂ
You raised an eyebrow. âAs long as you promise to not breathe down my neck.â
Youâd taken the job.
Thereâd been a bit of a turnover lately and Maggie needed an experienced nurse, which was just as well. You were sure being a Halstead also helped.
âRemember what you promised me.â You said through gritted teeth on your first day.
But working at Med had turned out much better than youâd expected. Other than the fact that Will had kept his promise and tried his best to keep out of your way, the people you worked with were really great. Even the paramedics and firefighters that came in were a hoot, and youâd quickly become friendly with almost everyone.Â
So things seemed really good.
Until it started up again.
It had seemed mostly innocent enough, getting a few missed calls from unknown numbers while you were on shift. Youâd barely put any thought into it, letting the phone ring as you moved quickly through the ED, from room to room, just another day in the ED.
The mistake you made was picking up one day after your shift.
âHello?â
When you were met with silence, you paused and repeated the greeting. âHello?â
Now, there was a slight crackling. You frowned, pulling your phone away from your ear to make sure the call was still connected, before you took a quick screenshot and tried one more time. When there was no response still, you disconnected the call, slipping your phone back into your pocket.
You didnât give the call much thought, especially since there were plenty of scam calls going around and you figured this was just one of those calls.Â
But the calls didnât stop and youâd even asked Jay if there was anything that could be done but the numbers kept changing and based on what Jay could do at this point of time, considering there was no apparent threat, it didnât lead to anything much.
Of course, youâd kept the frequency of the calls from Jay, which was why he wasnât as worried as he probably should have been. Youâd even kept the weird âI see youâ texts from Jay since you figured it was probably some prank or a wrong number.
It only hit you one day when you were heading out of Med, alongside Will, when you thought you saw a familiar figure standing a distance away.
Your head whipped around and you felt that familiar feeling of dread, a feeling you hadnât felt for months since youâd been back in Chicago, surrounded by friends and your brothers.Â
âY/N?âÂ
Will looked slightly concerned as he glanced over your head from where he towered over you, trying to see what had caused your reaction.Â
You looked back at him, before glancing over your shoulder again, where there was no one.Â
Maybe you were just imagining things. Maybe it was just one of those empty deja vu feelings.Â
You shook your head at Will with a smile. âI just thought I sawâŚâ
Will looked like he was waiting for you to finish your sentence but you shook your head with a smile. âCome on, letâs go. Jayâs gonna complain if weâre late again.â
Will looked slightly unconvinced but smiled. âI bet heâs not even there yet.â
You didnât respond, pulling your brother to his car, once again unaware of the pair of eyes that were watching you from afar.
Jay glanced up at the clock with a sigh. The bullpen was already empty and heâd wanted to be home slightly earlier today so he could have a meal with you. But looking at the time, youâd probably be at least half asleep by the time he got home.Â
His phone buzzed just as he pushed his chair back, stretching as he did. With a small smile, he leaned over to answer the call on speaker, sure you were just going to whine over the phone about him being late and probably asking for some late night snack.
âIâm leaving, I swear. What can I get you?â Jay spoke with an amused smile, grabbing his jacket.
But the words that bounced back at him made him freeze in his tracks.
âWhat are you doing here?â
Your voice shook slightly with an emotion that sounded a lot like fear.Â
Jay frowned, quickly shrugging on his jacket, grabbing his phone and rushing down the steps. He couldnât hear much of what the other person was saying, so he just pushed himself faster, speeding past the front desk his phone still pressed against his ear, barely hearing Trudyâs âWhereâs the fire, Halstead?â comment before he was out the doors.
What was at most a 15 minute drive felt like forever, as Jay sped through the streets, finally pulling up outside his apartment building, not even bothering to wait for the elevator.
The door to his apartment wasnât even shut properly, the door merely resting on the frame. Jay pulled his gun out as heâd done so many times at other places, except that he could feel the bad feeling turn his stomach over.
Jay nudged the door open with his foot, pulling his focus forward and using trained eyes to glance around his apartment.Â
Stuff was strewn all over the floor, pieces of broken glass from a shattered cup, leaflets spread across the floor. He knew what he was seeing - a struggle. Most definitely.
âY/N?â He called, even though he knew it was useless. This wasnât a random robbery or attack. Youâd known the person whoâd come in. You had been the target.Â
Even so, Jay cleared each and every corner and room, before he called Will to get him to come over before he called Voight.
It was only after heâd finished calling everyone he needed to call that the information heâd already known finally clicked into place, settling into a dark place in his chest.Â
Someone had taken you.
Jay could hear people talking but he wasnât processing anything, his mind trying to sift through the few months since youâd been back, trying to figure out what it was that heâd missed or what you hadnât told them.Â
âJay.â
Kim touched his elbow gently and he glanced up now, realizing he was supposed to provide some sort of response.Â
âWhat?â
Kim exhaled gently before she repeated herself. âAdamâs taking Willâs statement. Iâll try to make this quick, alright?â
âIâm working this.â Jay responded, looking Kim straight in the eye.
Kim nodded. âI donât think Voightâs taking you off. Just talk to me, so we can work this together. Thatâs the fastest way weâve got to find her. Because we will.â
Jay exhaled before he nodded, letting Kim ask the questions, swallowing down the annoyance of feeling like a victimâs family.
âShe didnât tell us anything. But she was jumpy, everytime her phone rang. She stuck a little close to us when we were out, even at Mollyâs, as if she was five all over again. Damn it, I should have wrangled it out of her.â
Kim glanced up at her friend. âJay, letâs focus, alright?â She paused and he nodded. âSo she didnât say anything?â
Jay shook his head. âShe didnât even really tell us why she was back. I bought the whole ânew environmentâ excuse for a bit, but things were a little different.â
Kim nodded. âOkay, tell me about the phone call.â
Jay exhaled slowly. âShe knew this guy, Iâm sure of it. But I couldnât make out what he was sayingâŚâ
Jay looked back almost helplessly at his friend and Kim nodded. âListen, weâll find her.â
Jay nodded again, glancing back at the bullpen now where Will had just emerged from Voightâs office. He turned to glance at Kim again. âLetâs do this.â
You glanced up now, feeling the defiance in you rise to almost the same level as your fear, the figure pacing in front of you now a familiar one. Your hands were fastened securely behind your back, the cable ties so tight they were cutting into your skin.Â
This was the reason you felt the need to return home standing right in front of you.
âYou followed me here?â You asked, doing your best to keep your voice steady, not to betray even a sliver of the actual fear that you felt.Â
You were pretty sure that your frantic call to Jay had gone through, even though your phone was now probably still stuffed in the corner of the couch, where you hoped Jay or someone would find it. Which gave you a sliver of hope that was only present because of the fact that youâd returned home. At least you were in Chicago. Jay and Will would find you. You just needed to hang on until then.
âYou wanted me to find you.âÂ
You exhaled slowly, not really succeeding in blocking out his voice, the memory of the first time youâd met Tobias Mills still clear in your mind.
Heâd come in after an accident in a lot of pain, so youâd done what you did best. As you assisted the doctor on call in the ED, you connected with the patient. Except that this time, it had backfired. Mills had become totally obsessed with you, so much so that youâd been forced to get a restraining order. But even that hadnât stopped him. Heâd watch you from across the street, or send you messages. To this day, you still had no idea how heâd even gotten your number. So as a last resort, before you lost your last shred of sanity, youâd left, packing your bags almost overnight and taking the first available flight straight to Chicago.
But now he was here.
What was worse was that heâd somehow managed to follow you all the way to Jayâs apartment, picked a night Jay was late and practically taken you by force.Â
âI should have known.â He muttered as he paced in front of you, as if heâd forgotten you were there. âThis was why you turned me down. But two of them?âÂ
His voice raised at the last question and he looked furiously at you.
âTwo?!âÂ
You flinched, even though you were trying hard not to. Even so, your brain was already putting all the pieces together. Heâd stalked you, seen you with your brothers and put everything together into his own narrative. Again.
Jay put down the phone a little harder than heâd meant to, but the rest of the bullpen barely flinched, like they hadnât heard it, the sound of furious typing and vague telephone conversations not pausing.
Jay could feel his anxiety mounting as each second ticked past but he glanced towards the pantry where Will was sitting, looking down at his hands and reminded himself that at least he was able to do something and that the both of you were counting on him.
He closed his eyes for just a second, even though he knew Kim had looked up and was watching him now.
There was something missing and he knew it. There was something he was not seeing and he just needed one piece to put it all together. At least thatâs how he felt.Â
With not much to go on, seeing as they werenât able to find much prints, the team had tried to backtrace your steps but even finding your phone was futile because the burner phones were practically untraceable. After exhausting all possibilities in Chicago, Jay was pretty sure it was something that had followed you home from Europe. Or someone. So Intelligence had put in more efforts to try to connect with the contacts you had had there.
But there was still nothing. Jay had no idea why someone had taken you, what they wanted. He couldnât think of anyone who wanted to hurt you, but if it was someone who wanted to hurt him, there would have been a ransom call, a message, something. The silence, the lack of knowledge, it was killing him.
Jay heard the door click open, Will motioning towards him with a flick of his head. Sighing, he pushed back his chair, knowing that nothing good would come out of going to his brother with little to no answers.
âJay, you have to tell me something.â Will said, before the door was even fully closed. âIâm climbing the walls here.â
Jay exhaled, before he looked up at his brother. âWe donât have a lot to go on.â
There was a pause before Will spoke again. âYouâre telling me you have nothing.â
Jay didnât answer.
âJay, you have nothing? Nothing that could help us find her? Sheâs out there, somewhere, scared out of her mind and thereâs nothing?â
Jay couldnât even blame Will for raising his voice. Frustration, that was all the emotion behind Willâs voice, frustration that Jay himself couldnât even express since he was in no position to at this moment. He couldnât, he had to focus.Â
Jay exhaled gently. âWeâre working on it, Will.â
Will knew that, heâd just let his frustration get the better of him. He hadnât meant to make Jay feel worse but just as he opened his mouth to tell his younger brother so, the door opened.Â
âJay. I think you need to take this call.âÂ
Without another word, Jay gave his brother a look before he headed back for the bullpen and Kim led the conversation. âHey, Stacie. Itâs Kim. Can you repeat what you just told me?â
Jay listened with quiet building anger as the girl on the line talked, explaining that she had been your roommate and had also worked alongside you at the hospital. Then she talked about the patient whoâd come in and formed an unhealthy attachment to you, how he waited in front of the apartment building, how he came to the hospital, but she didnât have a conclusion for the team.
âI donât know what happened after that. I tried to convince her to continue staying with me so that I could look out for her but she said she didnât want to create trouble for me. She was worried that heâd do something to me too, soâŚâ
Kimâs eyes flicked to where Jay was gripping the edge of the table so hard, his knuckles were turning white. That sounded just like you, and that really tore at Jay. He didnât know why you didnât tell him, or Will. Why didnât you call to say you were having a tough time, or tell them when youâd come home?
But Jay spoke anyway, keeping his voice so steady, a stranger wouldnât have realized they were talking about his sister. âDo you have a name?â
Tobias Mills.
Jay was now staring at the records that theyâd barely managed to wrangle out of the European authorities.Â
Stalking. Threatening behavior. But nothing that could get him convicted.
âI got him.â Adam broke the silence, finally looking up from where he had been studying the airport footage for almost an hour.
âFacial recognition missed him because of what heâs wearing but Iâm pretty sure thatâs him. Right?â Adam asked, playing the footage again.
Jay gave a grunt of acknowledgement before he studied the footage playing. Tobias had reached Chicago slightly two weeks after you had and someone had met him at the airport.
âIâm on it.â Kim said, before anyone else could say anything, already running facial recognition on Millsâ acquaintance as the rest of the video played out.Â
Ben Mason.
Facial recognition popped quickly with a record that didnât make Jay feel any better. Multiple counts of assault, misconduct, illegal firearm possession, the list went on.
âThe money trail. Mills must have paid him for his help.â Kevin said quietly, glancing at Jay.
Jay growled, the worry blooming in his chest. What exactly had Mills paid for?
But thankfully he didnât have much longer to blindly worry. âMasonâs uncle owned a factory thatâs now out of business. As far as we can tell, itâs been abandoned for at least a year. Itâs under his motherâs maiden name soâŚâ
Kevin didnât finish his sentence before Voight nodded. âGear up.â
You could feel your heart pumping in your chest, feel the adrenaline working through your veins as you now lay on your side, unsure where the pain was coming from, other than the cable ties cutting into your skin. Maybe the roots of your hair were still smarting from when heâd pulled your head back roughly to look at him, or maybe it was when heâd raised his leg to kick you in the chest in his frustration, making your entire body topple backwards. Or maybe it was just the ache from having your arms pulled backwards for such a prolonged time.
âIf I canât have you, no one can.âÂ
The words echoed in the empty area, bouncing off the walls as if to intimidate you further, even though heâd left a while ago.
Mills had been prepared. That, you knew. Maybe heâd hidden you somewhere no one else would find you. Maybe thatâs why Jay hadnât come for you yet, because you had no doubt that Jay would be here if he knew where you were.Â
There was a slam, which signalled his return and you felt your breath pick up. You were sure that if Jay didnât come soon, things were going to get ugly soon. He was either going to do whatever he wanted with you or kill you in a fit of rage - you didnât know which was worse.
You tried to breathe slower, reminding yourself you werenât going to show him fear no matter what. You didnât raise your head as the footsteps got closer, and you wondered what he was up to. If you didnât know any better, the footsteps sounded⌠tentative.
âY/N!â
The voice youâd been waiting for, the sound of safety youâd known your entire life and you raised your head now, slightly worried that you were imagining things.
His name felt like it was stuck in your throat, the energy suddenly sucked out of you as you felt the adrenaline drop all of a sudden.
âOh my god.â His voice swept past you, landing on you gently, just as he reached you. You heard his knees hit the ground as he bent over you. âAre you hurt?â
You still didnât answer him, the fog in your brain worried that it wasnât true, that when you looked up it would be Mills again.Â
But the pressure on your wrists lifted as Jay sliced through the cable ties. âAre you hurt?â He asked again, pulling you up against him, his eyes scanning you up and down.
âJay?â
Jay nodded now, a small frown forming on his face. âYeah, itâs me. Youâre okay. Weâre here. Willâs right outside.â
You didnât answer but your body now slumped against your brotherâs.
Jay turned and nodded at Kevin so that he could bring Will in. Jay knew it would be better to take you outside but he was a little worried about any injuries you might have and if moving you would make things worse. You couldnât even seem to articulate if you had any injuries.
âJay? Y/N!â Willâs voice reached you now, as he got to his knees next to Jay, his fingers going straight to feel your pulse, peering at your pupils now.Â
âY/N, does anything hurt? Look at me, Y/N.â
You raised your eyes now to meet Willâs before you shook your head, the fog finally pushing back down again. âWill.â
Will let out a breath that sounded like relief, before he nodded. âOkay, if youâre not hurt we should get you out of here first. Come on.âÂ
Jay nodded, as Will put an arm around you as well, helping you up. Jay let Will take over as he repositioned his hold on the gun in his hand, getting to his feet as well.
But what threw a wrench in their plans was the back door opening.
Both you and Will looked up at the sound of a door opening and you saw the look on Millsâ face change, the absolute wrath that crossed his face as he saw you pressed against Willâs side. Will felt your hand close around the shirt he had on, the material crumpling in your hand. Jay pressed down his confusion that Mills had gotten past the patrol cars that were supposed to be stationed out there, raising his gun.
âI told you. Youâre mine.â
His sentence was cut off by a simultaneous growl from both Jay and Will as you coiled backwards.
Willâs eyes caught the flash of metal first as Mills raised the gun in his hand.
Instinctively, Will pulled you against him and turned, as if heâd done this a thousand times. You let out a sharp inhale, confused for a moment if it was really Will who was now standing between you and Mills, before the gunshot rang out.Â
You could feel the fear that gripped at you so hard that it felt like it was hard to breathe. You were afraid to even turn, afraid to know if Will was hurt because of you.Â
âY/N, you okay?â Willâs voice in your ear.
âWill, youâŚâ
You felt Will shake his head. âIâm okay, are youâŚâ
Thatâs when you felt the energy leave your legs, your body only supported by your oldest brotherâs arms around you.Â
You turned but Jay stepped behind Will now to block your vision. âItâs over, letâs get you out of here.â
Your brothers took you to the hospital to get checked out. But other than some bruises, pain that would last a few days and some dehydration, you werenât badly hurt.Â
No one had told you much details, but you were sure that the gunshot you thought was Mills shooting Will was from Jay. And if it was between Mills and Will, you were glad Jay had shot the bastard, even if it made you feel dirty inside for even thinking it when someone had died.
You could hear Jayâs voice behind the closed door, raised as he questioned someone on the line.
âWhat the hell do you mean? My brother and sister could have died! Any one of my team members could have been shot!â
Will turned to look at you now, giving you a small smile. He looked like he was about to say something when the door slid open, Jay stepping in and closing the door behind him.
Your brothers exchanged a look like theyâd already had a discussion among themselves without you.
So you knew they wanted to talk, wanted to ask you something. It didnât take a genius to figure that out.Â
âWhy didnât you tell us?â Jay broke the silence first, unable to keep the sadness out of his voice.
You glanced up, surprised. You thought heâd be pissed, like really pissed. Maybe just slightly less than the anger heâd shown while he was on the phone outside.
When both of them didnât say anything, you let out a short breath. âThe whole point of a new environment was for me to grow up. I was supposed to grow outside the shelter the both of you had created for me since I was a baby.â You paused glancing up at them. âI didnât want to worry you. I thought I could handle it, I didnât think he wouldâŚâ
Will moved first, heading towards your side and pulling you tightly against him before he sat on the side of your bed facing you.Â
âYouâre our younger sister. Worrying us is part of your make up. Jay worries me all the freaking time.â Will said gently, earning him an annoyed puff from the younger Halstead.Â
âYeah, says Dr Halstead who got beaten up within a day since he returned to Chicago.â Jay slightly mocked, moving closer as well.
You laughed, the chuckle bursting forth and making your side ache a little.Â
Jay smiled at you. âPromise me something.â
You glanced up at your older brother.
âDonât keep such serious things from us. Once it starts feeling funky, you tell one of us. Tell Kim. Tell Sylvie. I donât care who, just tell someone.â
You were quiet for a second, before you nodded. âI promise.â
They both leaned in at the same time, Will putting a hand on the back of our head gently as they squashed you between them, the three of you emanating the same feelings, glad that you were all here together.
Home.
