The Feudal Era: Adventures in BabySitting
The morning summer sun warmed his skin, alerting Inuyasha that today would be another hot one and he was more than ready to begin their journey to the beach. Unsure of why his wife wanted to go in the middle of the hottest time of the year was beyond him, but he was never one to tell her no. Even more after she returned from the future. However, they were traveling a long distance today and he really didnât want to have to carry her and their bags in the blistering heat.
âKagome, youâve gone over the bratsâ schedule with her five times already. I think sheâs got it. Isnât that right, Sango?â He arched his brow at the demon slayer, their gazes meeting and the only answer he received in response was her shrug. Sango knew all too well about keeping kids overnight, and so did they, he might add. He couldnât keep track of how many times they watched her kids while she went on a trip with his brother.
âFine, fine.â His wife gave him one of her award winning smiles and all his irritation disappeared, her brown eyes sparkling as the rising sun hit them just right. He would never admit it, but he couldnât imagine ever falling in love with another color for the rest of his life. âWhere is Sesshomaru?â
âOh, heâs giving his farewell to Rin and Kohaku before they leave to head north on another demon hunt.â
âSheâs really enjoying learning all about it and Iâm a little shocked to see His Royal Fluffiness be so calm about it.â Kagome winked, leaning in close, so if the daiyoukai were to suddenly appear, he wouldnât hear her.
âOh, at first he was anything but calm about it. You know how when heâs especially irritated, his mokomoko gets all fuzzy, like a catâs tail? It wouldnât settle for days the first time Rin left the village. I had to force him to stay in the village so he wouldnât go after them.â Sango loudly whispered back, their grins wide on their faces.
âIs Sango whispering stories again?â Said man appeared next to Inuyasha, his face stoic despite the teasing mood in the air.
âYeah, sheâs telling Sango about the first time Rin went demon slaying.âÂ
âHn.â
Rolling his eyes, Inuyasha ignored the weird bond between one of his closest friends and his brother, still not used to the affectionate way Sesshomaru acted towards her. Rin was one thing and even Kagome was another. They were simply family. Sango was a new battleground he had yet to figure out about Sesshomaru. Stepping towards the chittering women, he snatched their overstuffed bag and swung it over his shoulder, slipping his wifeâs hand into his.
âAlright love, time to go. See ya both in three days. If we pass Miroku on our travels, Iâll remind him about being back in time for the twins' birthdays at the end of the summer.â
âThanks Inuyasha, have fun now you two!â Sango waved them off without another word and headed towards her hut, the sound of six children getting up for the day filling the air.
Despite the day being warmer than he initially expected, they made it to the beach in record time, the sun falling beneath the horizon as his toes sank into the sand. Their campsite was hidden behind some trees, so if any other travelers were to pass by, they wouldnât be able to spot them unless they actively searched for them. Holding onto Kagomeâs hand a little tighter than normal, so she didnât slip as they walked towards the ocean, Inuyasha couldnât stop the smile from forming.
âHappy that we made it?â Kagome hummed, her cheeks flushed from being out in the sun all day.
âYeah, it was a quick trip, but I always forget just how insane this view is. Why donât we come more often?â
âBecause we have three kids, all under the age of 6 and getting time away from them is hard enough.â She laughed, the sound drifting across his ears and easing any unspoken worries. He wondered how after six years, she was still able to calm him with such a simple action. âBesides, while I think the kids would have fun here, I would very much like to keep this a place for just the two of us.â
He nodded, the two of them stopping to watch the remainder of the sunset in silence, the waters flowing past their ankles. Arms wrapped around his life, Inuyasha couldnât help but send a silent prayer up to the heavens, giving his thanks for bringing Kagome back into his life once more.Â
Once the moon lit up the night sky, he simply scooped up wife in his arms, sealed his mouth to hers and made his way back to their makeshift bed to show her just how much he appreciated her.
Three days had passed and soon the couple were ready to return to the chaos that was their life, the summer day turning into a cool, rainy one the closer they journeyed home. Inuyasha could only imagine having six kids cooped up in a house all day on one like this was probably not the greatest, especially if the way the scent of rain permeated the air, alerting him that it wasnât going to stop anytime soon.
Careful to not step in mud, he rounded the bend in the path with his wife at his side, Sangoâs home coming into his view. From where they stood, all seemed normal and he couldnât hear anything happening in the house, but he was sure that it was pure hectic chaos inside. He briefly wondered if Sesshomaru stayed to help or go hide in a tree somewhere, trying to stay dry. The image of a soaking wet daiyoukai made him snicker quietly.
As they neared the home, he could hear the echoes of childrenâs laughter, still unable to make out any definite sounds with the heavy pouring rain. Pulling aside the mat, he and Kagome froze, mouthsâ gaping at the chaotic scene before them.
To his left, his oldest Moroha, currently had Hisui pinned down on the mat, her cackle causing him to wince just a bit. She had managed to get a small garden snake into the hut and was practically shoving it down the poor kidâs throat, calling him a âfraidy catâ. To his right, the older twins had backed Shippo into a corner, the kit hiding his tail protectively because Inuyasha knew all too well how much the girls love to pull it.
A soft hissed caught his attention and glancing over Kagome's still shocked face, he noticed the large pot boiling over into the fire pit, effectively burning whatever Sango had decided to make for lunch. To be truthfully honest, he couldnât really tell what it was. In the far corner, near the back door he had helped Miroku install so it was easier to get to the stream behind their hut, his youngest lay in a pile of blankets, happily snoozing away. The only thing that seemed really out of place, well more like into full on tantrum mode, was his middle child wailing in Sangoâs arms as she glared at them.
It took him a full minute to realize she was actually giving the dirty look to the full blooded youkai sitting in the corner of rafters overhead, Sesshomaruâs face in a full on pout. Unable to hold back his laughter, he roared, doubling over, catching the sweetest of giggles his wife made beside him.
âWhat the he-â, Inuyasha paused, wary of little brats repeating his words, before wiping away the tears from his eyes, âWhy are you up there, Sesshomaru?â
âYour pup has sticky fingers.â
âSheâs three! Of course her fingers are probably sticky.â Kagome laughed once more before turning to console their child, Sango joining them and placing her hands on her hips.
âLord Fluffy up there decided he didnât like sticky fingers when Izayoi wanted to play with his hair. Before I could soothe her, Haruto picked the perfect time to spit up the milk you left for him and it just so happened to distract Sesshomaru enough that Izayoi sank her fingers into his mokomoko. Iâve never seen him so offended, except for a few times battling Naraku.â She sighed, shaking her head, and called out, âHow long are you planning on staying up there?â
âEither until all of the childrenâs hands are clean or the rain stops.â
âGood luck with that.â Inuyasha snorted, turning to rescue the poor snake and Hisui from his daughter.
A/N: Well I just forget in the spam of time, that it was @serial-doubters-club birthday! (Thanks IRL matters), I just want to say a huge thank you Serial for floating me upon a very shaky raft which is 'Midokirin', allowing me to fulfil the biggest fic "I want you" and now being excited for my novel "What is a God to a Mountain".
This drabble, I thought would fit you, knowing your background in teaching, without the glamourous parts which is admin work and constant meetings (I have a sibling who is a teacher too). And I hope this will be relatable to you, and given it is SessSan, I hope you enjoy it, despite it is rough as lately I am trying to get back to writing again
Sango slumped her shoulders a little at the staff room, looking through the reports that she has to collate to her department head Mr Higashi.
It feels like it will never endâŚ
Maybe it will neverâŚ
Mountains of reports formed on the tables, that one step that she would take, it would flutter along the floor, little pings in her laptop reminding her of the never ending meeting with other teachers collaberating on plans on what to do with that kid, what is the status of the next semester.
At that moment Sango realized through the sticky note of a little calico cat curled up, that she was reminded that she needed to send Ms Takaya- presentation notes involving telling international teachers about the usage of technology in their school.
It seems to never end.
And it is Wednesday.
Not just Wednesday, it is Wednesday afternoon- which she has to unfortunately stay back for the track and field club.
To be honest, there is nothing to look forward. Sango sighed to herself, as she grabbed that another round of instant coffee, that she bought from the discount store in Japan which sadly is running out, like her social battery.
That is until, Sesshomaru a new teacher came in, confidently finishing his reports for the day, all neatly labelled, passing it to the literature headâ Hitomiko Sango twitched an eyebrow. Huh he looks so fucking famillar. Sango frowned a little.Â
âHeyâŚ.Mr TaishoâŚ.â
Sesshomaru blinked a little, seeing Sangoâs exhausted expression, he could not tell if she drank too much coffee or the mountain of reports swalllowing her like a levanthian who swam too many miles- desperate to grab anything in his grasp. âMs MurakamiâŚ..â Sesshomaru need not to add more. âI have passed your desk too many times. You seem overwhelmedâŚ..â
A little cold. Sango thought to herself. And perhaps a little too blunt.
Sesshomaru gave a small smile. âHey, you know whatâŚ.â, Sango chewed her lip a little. âWhat time is your Track and Field club startingâŚ.â Sango look through her phoneâs calander. âI think 2pmâŚ..â, before she could continue, Sesshomaru held her hand tightly, causing her heart to race a little. âMaybe we should get some fresh air, away from kids would be a good changeâŚ.â
Maybe I should? Sango thought to herself, as she took a small bag with her esstenials, gazing over the mountain of reports. If I keep staring at these, I would go madâŚâŚ
Sango begrudgingly changed her chat status from online to away.Â
Maybe it will do me good, to actually get away from the many meetings, instead of me staring like it was in the scene from âThe Officeâ
////
At Cafe Tuki.
Sango heave a sense of relief, drinking the sea-salt honey latte, and Sesshomaru meanwhile took himself a herbal cold brew.Â
That place seems nice, no annoying teenagers doing dances upon a certain platform, no calls or texts from parents demanding why their child is punshined. For that moment, she is just a regular young adult enjoying normal things.Â
That seems nice.
Sesshomaru did not give his opinions on how Sango would manage the mountain of admin tasks, but glad she could take a breather. âFor that moment, I do not feel like a secretary pulling my hair outâŚ.â Sango is surprised that, despite joining the school a few weeks back, he seems like a good companion to confide in. âI dunno if I am doing enough, or if the kids like meâŚ.â
Amidst the chill lofi music playing softly in the background- Sesshomaru broke his completaive slience. âI am only at Hokusei High school for a few months, only teaching the class of bright minds, but I see that you-Ms Murakami work day in and out, trying to raise a bunch of youth that are waywardâŚ.â Sesshomaru smiled a little. âI was too used to teach in a prviate school, where they have the sliver spoon in their mouths, but this enviroment feels so different but yet I want to make it the best like you did with these kids, I see you at afternoons making sure they have clean clothes, and you give Javier a space to draw and fidget during class- knowing that he has ADHDâŚ..â
âHuhâŚâ Sango chuckled to herself. âSomeone like me, well I am just nobodyâŚ.Mr TaishoâŚI donât even know what I am doingâŚ.â
âHey drop thatâŚ.â Sesshomaru stopped Sangoâs self-doubt. âI think Sesshomaru is fine, I am not a student after all, to be honestâŚâÂ
Sesshomaru shook his head.
âAnyway, just do not over-think itâŚ..Ms MurakamiâŚ.âSango felt her cheeks burning a little, which she looked over the watch again, it read now as â1.40âÂ
âOh, hey you know what SessshoâŚ.â Sango tried her best not to say âMr Taishoâ again. âI gotta runâŚ.oh you can stop calling me Ms Murakmi, call me Sangoâ, Sesshomaru observed Sango having the slight skip in her step, as if refreshed by the words of Sesshomaru. âSee ya soonâŚ.â
âWell you are welcomeâŚ.â
Sesshomaru, now able to have a breather, took that alone time to take his ipad to jot down a plan to discuss âTo Kill a Mockingbirdâ themes in a fun manner.Â
Hope that Ms Murakami, no Sango is feeling better right now, and perhaps able to tackle what is to come.
