Thinking about aesthetics and wondering if that makes me sophisticated or just shallow.

yeaaaah it's crazy because they really did NOT interact at all and kikyo downright never acknowledged sesshomaru or looked at him twice, wasn't that aware of his existence the way at least HE seemed aware of hers (he'd at least turn around to look at her and he wasn't indifferent to her death).

but even if their stories are very different, rumiko always made it seem as if their ways to wander through life were fairly similar, that with how they'd wander alone and let others tag along (if they wished), and consciously or not rumiko would ALWAYS have them mirroring each other when it comes to their stances in manga panels. their shared composure, calm and sharpness in the face of danger will never not be funny ↓

but in my opinion - or my possible explanation for their similarities could be that it all stems from their condition as strong individuals.

this is more regarded with sesshomaru in the inuyasha profiles book and more theorized when it comes to kikyo, but with sesshomaru it is stated that his solitude is directly related to his strength. for a being like sesshomaru, isolation is a natural condition for those that are strong or powerful, and he seemed to be okay with this (he obviously isn't in the end if rumiko points out he felt he needed "something" and his constant wandering has to do with that, his need to understand his father's actions and find what was lacking to make sense of life). for him it was a solitude he accepted and favoured bcs it's the path of the "strong".

with kikyo there's also a case of strength/power becoming something that othered her or isolated her from normal individuals, but it was clearly something she struggled with, bcs this solitude was sort of imposed on her by duty. her power was meant to be yielded to protect others. unlike sesshomaru, she doesn't need to be taught the "value of life" bcs she's conditioned probably from birth to care for others and put their safety about everything.

so their mirrored calm and confident behaviour stems from their power and personal acknowledgement of their strength and skills. this gets criticized by several characters in the story when it comes to kikyo, her "arrogance", and she's unabashedly confident in times where most characters are more prompt to flinch or panic.

for sesshomaru in the profile book it's literally stated: "cooperation is proof of weakness and being alone is the condition of the strong" and this is also true for kikyo (rumiko stated she never gets to show weakness) but it's a reality she didn't want for herself and wished to rid of her loneliness.

so there comes their many differences. bcs they're shown to react in the same similar fashion and kikyo is fairly confident in her power, but she doesn't need a whole journey to become a "better person" (like sesshomaru's father was expecting from him, lol), bcs she had already been a good person while alive and that was the core of her nature even if she'd briefly deviate from that path.

so yeah, very different individuals but similar in behaviour bcs they were also the most powerful among their respective kind (youkai and humans). kikyo's power could be distinguished through the entire story by others and sesshomaru was so strong (physically and mentally) he wasn't even remotely swayed by the shikon jewel, lol. so i'd say this is what makes them act and move similarly through life.
