Hi! I'm really sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if I could maybe ask you a couple of things? I'm sort of new to all of this, and I've done a few spells, blessed my journal, and even tried to contact some deities. I just... I don't know what I'm doing. I don't have any guidance and I'm trying to stay positive but how do I know for sure that it's working? Or if I'm powerful enough? Or what to do next. I'm sorry this is a bit of a ramble. I'm just a little lost. Thank you so much ❤
Eeee, another baby witch! Hello and welcome! :)
First off, sweetie don’t worry about whether you’re powerful enough to make a spell work. Good clear intent will carry you a lot further than raw power, and it will make your spells much more likely to work the way you want them to. To paraphrase Tina Belcher, you ARE powerful forces.
Second, it’s really hard to know when and if spells work sometimes, unless they have a really clear effect that is immediately noticeable. I’ve cast dozens of spells with no idea, even to this day, whether they worked or not, but I’m confident enough in my own ability to believe that they did. (And if they didn’t, either they just flat fizzled out or the effect was so slight that I didn’t recognize it.)
This is where that clear intent I mentioned really helps. If you’re specific on what you want to happen, or at least on the indication that will appear to signify your spell has worked, that increases the chances of success and of you being able to tell that something has happened.
Starting small is a good move, and it sounds like you’re doing that already. Try some spells that will have a noticeable effect, like luck-changing or barrier spells. Simple money-draws were a big part of how I got my start, and closing the loopholes on those spells was instrumental in my early understanding of magical mechanics (aka How Stuff Works).
Third, staying positive is hard sometimes, especially when there’s a lack of guidance, but keep at it! If you feel like what you’re doing isn’t working, hit the books and study some more, or try something else. There’s a whole world of possibilities out there. A decade on, and I STILL haven’t explored even a tenth of it. You’ll find your niche eventually.
If it helps, I maintain a website with advice and simple information for beginner witches, and I recently published a book with all the information I wish I’d had when I was a baby witch myself.
Hope this helps! if you have any more questions, please feel free to message me! :)
