seph alexander soft quotes part 2
“she was alive and happy. I couldn’t help but feel like I was being included in something special, like I was with someone special.”
“a woman who was unlike anyone I’d ever met. She’d gotten so fully and completely under my skin, I didn’t know how I’d existed before I met her.”
“Staring at myself in the mirror, I gave myself the best pep talk I could under the circumstances. “Maybe a stray meteor will take you out on the way back out there.”
“I could spend the next fifty years with this girl and I’d still be learning more about her.”
“You played a great game.” She sat on the bed with the violin case between us.
“You watched?” I peered over at her.
“I told you I would. I don’t break promises.” She stared back at me like the question stung. “I tried to read up on as much as I could about the rules and everything, but I think you’re going to have to explain things to me.”
“You really know how to give a guy a complex.” He picked up the juicy patty sandwiched within a potato bun and stared at it like it had betrayed him.
“Next time, I’ll let you win.”
“Inside my pocket, I wrapped my fingers around the gift I’d gotten her. It wasn’t Christmas yet, but there didn’t have to be a reason to get someone something special. She deserved it, and she needed it. There were only so many ways I could tell her she wasn’t like anyone else I’d ever met. She needed to believe that.”
“The wine sprayed all over everything. Reece laughed. “Wild Child strikes again.”
“A thin chain slid out of the death grip I had on what Reece had passed to me. Opening my hand, I stared down at the silver jewelry. A circular pendant lay in the middle of the tangle of the chain. Flipping it over, I sucked in a shuddering breath and read the words: You are enough.”
“It’s hard to believe it when you’ve never been enough, when no matter how hard you try, you’re always lacking.” I tipped her head up and gazed into her eyes. “You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve read up on this a bunch.”
“Happy Birthday, Wild Child.”
“But it’s not my birthday,” I whispered over my shoulder.
“It doesn’t matter. You deserve a party.”
“Her legs bounced on the bed, her toes dancing with joy as she scooped up the last of the chocolate ice cream in the bottom of the bowl.
I grabbed hold of her and lifted her shirt, blowing raspberries on her stomach. She yelped and shoved at me, spilling some of her ice cream on my shoulder.
“Stop it, you’re making a mess.”
She twitched and tried to push my hands away. “You’re going to make me pee—stop tickling me!”
“This story of love lost was real now. Before they’d been finger positions on my strings; now they were notes on my soul. I poured myself into the rhythm and melody, trying to keep myself together. I was fraying more and more every day, but it was showing me that I could stand up to the pressure.”
“What the hell happened to your shoes?”
“After the game, I couldn’t find mine, so I stole Berk’s.”
“If you’d have led with that, we wouldn’t even have needed your whole speech.”
“Here’s the deal.”
“I’m listening.”
“Whoever gets to my study room first gets to decide what we do once we get there.”
“You want to race me.”
“Deal?”
“Deal, Wild Child.”
“But I don’t know where your study room is!”
“I know!”
“You’re more than enough. You’re perfect.”
