Over the last several decades my body has brought me through birthing two amazing young black kings, surviving a stroke, heart surgery and surviving covid. I am tremendously grateful for whatever form it takes for me to get through in a given moment. A part self care and love is being ok with the moments of time where we may have felt we were not our full selves but we were totally full enough to survive. I am looking forward to the next several years and decades that my body and art will take me. Feeling stressed? Here are three quick, easy, FREE ways to give yourself a break! 1. Take a micro-memory-vacation. 🏖️ Think of a recent fun or happy experience. It doesn't have to be HUGE, it just has to be positive. Fill in the details,too. Write it down or make a recording of yourself describing as much as you can recall. What was the weather like? Were there people with you? What sounds do you remember hearing? The more you remember, the better you're going to feel! 2. Air it out. 🌬️ Take three slow, deep breaths. Try square breathing. Inhale-2-3-4, hold-2-3-4, exhale-2-3-4, pause-2-3-4. Do this at least three times...or more! You're going to be breathing anyway, might as well squeeze some extra benefit out of it! Feel your body and mind relax. (Bonus tip: try adding a short affirmation when you exhale!) 3. Laugh! 😂🤣😂🤣And not the polite chuckle that you use at work, either. Pull up a video of babies laughing and let yourself belly laugh with them! Laughter is contagious, and it's one of our best, easiest stress reduction tools! We're literally wired for this!
