while I do agree that Selekta is a period-accurate banger, I did do a sort of shocked pikachu face at the period-accurate homophobia at the end. like, as a brit I feel represented but as a gay I feel jarred man

I think Selekta lives up to the hype even more than Planet of the Bass did, to me. The thing about Planet of the Bass was that the best parts were the parts used to sort of promo it before the full song released, and then from there it kinda deviated in places far away from the vibe. So, while I enjoyed listening to it a few times, I never felt like, "you know what I want to hear the entire version of again? Planet of the Bass." Meanwhile Selekta keeps up the energy it has had in the parts released before today, and the other parts are interesting enough but also consistent enough that it feels worth it to listen to the whole thing.
