All the romance of Harry and Ginny’s first kiss just vanishes when you realize it occurs - out of all chapters - at the end of the very same chapter as Sectumsempra, at a moment when Harry is feeling so mortified and overwhelmed with guilt that he is suddenly desperate to not think about Draco, after spending the whole rest of the book obsessed with him. Poor Ginny is canonically a total rebound.

thinking about the sectumsempra scene in hbp from draco's pov. we see him pressured for months trying to fix the cabinet, the mark, voldemorts task which basically is a suicide mission because if he killed dumbledore, voldemort would know he's the master of elder wand and kill him, and if not his family and him are under pressure of being killed. he’s crying in the mirror because moaning myrtle is literally the only being who has spoken to him without contempt or fear in ages. then Harry barges in, the one person draco has always measured himself against, the one person whose life he’s supposed to end, indirectly or directly, to save his own.

And harry uses sectumsempra, which we see slashes his "face and chest."

we also see draco just taking it. not trying to block it when the curse hits him. (he did try to crucio harry moments before the curse). no counter. no scream. no fight. he just falls and lies there bleeding out on the wet tiles while harry looks at him with shock.

and maybe in that moment draco believes, truly believes, that harry hates him enough to murder him. And the worst part? some part of him accepts it. he doesn’t beg. He doesn’t curse harry out. he just… lies there. because maybe at this point death probably feels like relief. die by potter’s hand and the task is off his shoulders. die and his parents might be spared (or so he can hope). die and he doesn’t have to fix the stupid cabinet or face voldemort or keep pretending he’s still the proud prince of slytherin when he’s just a terrified sixteen-year-old who wants his mum.
