š¹; We Live Like Monsters
The artistās heart RACED as she made her way towards the aquarium.Ā She had been looking for a more stable job than a freelance artist for a while, and had come across a rather interesting advertisement.Ā Apparently, this facility had managed to capture quite an interesting creature, one that had yet to be identified and who could be rather aggressive.Ā The researchers were in search of someone who could masquerade as an aquatic companion in order to soothe them.Ā Included in the advertisement was an image of the most beautiful specimen she had ever seen.Ā They were tall with shimmering freckles that glowed like a myriad of stars across their dark skin.Ā A plethora of tentacles cascaded down from their head, partially hiding their frightened expression.Ā Her heart physically A C H E DĀ at the thought of what could cause such an expression.Ā Scarlet had seen her fair share of monster films, always sympathizing with who was supposed to be feared, as for most of her life she too had been treated like a monster.Ā At least this facility seemed to care at least a tad for this mercreatureās well being if they were looking for someone to act as a companion for them.Ā As quickly as her delicate fingers could type, she applied for the position, and within the week she had been interviewed and hired.Ā They must have been in a desperate search for someone willing to spend time in the creatureās enclosure even with the safety measures they had in place.Ā Ā
Upon entering the aquarium, she immediately made her way to the back in order for costume and makeup, not even taking a moment to look around.Ā It was as though she had blinders on and was purely focused on her goal of getting closer to that magnificent entity before being whisked away to the their enclosure.Ā A few members of staff would remain close by should anything go wrong, she was told as they lowered her onto one of the many rocks that were sprinkled across the man made shore.Ā There she sat, trying her hardest to look as non-threatening as possible.
Given time beforehand to design her character, Scarlet decided on a bit of a battered look, hopefully one that would inspire sympathy rather than fear from the creature, since the scars that littered her back, hands, and arms would be visible.Ā The shape of her tale was inspired by the fins of both beta and lionfish, with tattered fins trailing down the length of her tail and by her hips like ripped lace.Ā For the color scheme, she took inspiration from deep sea fish, with contact lenses that gave her eyes a completely white appearance.Ā The scales on her tail, webbed fingers adorned with nails shaped like claws, as well as the painted on scales scattered across her cheekbones and temples gave off an iridescent s h i m m e r with white shifting to pale pinks and violet in the rippling light reflected by the water.Ā Her top and waist were wrapped in bits of fish nets, although partially hidden by long white locks cascading down her back to her waist, giving the appearance that her character had been captured like her companion.Ā Ā
Whitened eyes scanned the waters for any movement.Ā Her eyesight was already rather poor, but the mesh contacts covering her pupils only further restricted her vision.Ā Then, she saw a shadow move beneath the water, or at least she was almost certain she did.Ā Scarlet fixated on it, her stare unwavering and the grip on her oxygen hose tightening in a blend of anxiety and excitement.Ā Her heart HAMMERED in her rib cage so hard that her chest was visibly palpitating.Ā Any fear she felt for her safety was largely overshadowed by pure A N T I C I P A T I O N as she was oh so eager to finally see the one that captivated her so quickly in those advertisements.
