I am going to be vulnerable for a moment. I am about to feel hideous asking what I'm about to ask.
On Sunday, when we realized Saber wasn't doing well, I panicked. I paid upfront for her checkup, and I was - until the moment the vet suggested it wouldn't work - fully prepared to put the rest of my funding into paying for a blood transfusion and whatever else.
At the time, all I could think of was: I want to save this cat.
And now I'm on the other side of this having spent money I didn't have on something that didn't work, and I do not have it left in me right now to be precious about asking what I have to ask.
I am going to link a fundraiser for helping pay for private cremation so we can hold onto a part of her, and to recover some of the costs I put into the vet visit. I am going to ask you look at it. I need you to know before I get any DMs about it that I assure you I am angrier with myself for needing the help than you are annoyed at seeing the post, or thinking I'm being mercenary about this. ]

Nan collapses onto Niamh. She's wounded and bleeding and muddy and gross, but more importantly, she's being a dramatic baby about how she needs healing.
Niamh had sat down for one moment, just so she could dig a potion out of her pack, when Nan ungracefully plopped herself across her lap.
If the wounds had been life threatening, she would have fretted and worried, but she knew they weren't, and so she just let out a long, heavy sigh.
"You're stinky." Still, she held her glowing hands over the tiefling so that she could heal her. "We are definitely taking a bath later."
I love autumn so I am going to say November, because where I live that's when it (sometimes) starts to get crisp and chilly. And I can start wearing SWEATERS. Which is v important.

A low chuckle stirred in Halsin's chest at her teasing. The sound of his amusement showed how the strain of pain had eased, leaving the severity of battle behind.
"Normally I charge patients extra for a meal, but I think after the day you've had, you should get it for free."
"Free, you say?" he asked, one dark brow lifting as he looked down at her with a glint of quiet amusement. "I would be a fool to refuse such generosity."
When she reached up to untie the kerchief from his arm, his gaze followed the careful movement of her hands. Gentle. Deliberate. Now that the urgency of his injuries had passed, he found himself noticing even the smallest of her gestures with sharper attention. With the last soft pulse of her magic, the lingering ache faded like a memory already slipping away.
Halsin flexed his hand once, then his arm. Strength returned to him in full, settling once more into the broad, trunk-like muscles that carried the quiet might of the bear. A soft smile touched his mouth as he looked to his caretaker.
"You have done fine work, Niamh. Better than fine."
The druid’s gaze settled on her face as he leaned forward and eased himself from the bed. His hands braced at his sides for only a moment before he stood tall once more, his height making her seem all the smaller in his shadow. The nearness of him brought with it a steady warmth, threaded with the faint, earthy sweetness of elderberries.
The archdruid took a moment to stretch, testing for any hidden pain she might have missed. None answered. He rolled one shoulder, flexed his arm again, and pressed a broad palm over the healed muscle with the practiced care of one long accustomed to knowing the limits of his own body. Only then did he seem satisfied.
"You have my deepest thanks."
He turned to face the lass with a smile as warm as sunlight. A few loose strands of hair had fallen across his face, and he swept them back into place, restoring some measure of order to his otherwise rugged appearance. Yet his attention soon drifted toward her kitchen. One large hand settled over his stomach just as it gave a low, insistent growl.
Now that he thought on it, nearly half a day had passed since he had last taken any sustenance. Lunch had been interrupted by goblins, and with the pain now gone, hunger had risen to make its claim in earnest.
"Hrmm. I think a proper meal might serve as both repayment and remedy," he said, warmth lingering in his voice.
Halsin moved forward with quiet certainty, his keen senses guiding him toward what he might make use of in her pantry. After a glance back at Niamh, he inclined his head with the easy familiarity of a husband beckoning to his wife.
"Fetch my pouch, dear. At the bottom left, there is a small sewn compartment. You should find a slice of lemon and a little bottle of honey there."
As he spoke, he gathered pale mint and a few small salt rocks, crushing the latter between his palms with little apparent effort.
"I will make us a sweet-herb blend from Calimshan. The zest should give our tired bodies a welcome spark."
Rest might have been the wiser course, but Halsin had never been a man to let idleness claim him for long.
As he got to his feet, Niamh opened her mouth to argue. Even though she had healed his injuries, he had been through quite a bit, and needed to rest. The head injury had worried her, but he was steady on his feet. A good sign.
He was awfully comfortable with rooting through her kitchen. Her eyebrows rose. She wasn't sure how she felt about it. Outside of treating their ailments, Niamh didn't have guests. And with the goblins and bandits strengthening their numbers, even less people had come to her home for healing services over the past few months.
She didn't like to admit that she was lonely.
"Don't push yourself too hard. If you start feeling tired you should sit down." She found his pouch among his armor that he'd deposited on the floor. Taking out the lemon and honey, she set them on the counter where he was setting up the ingredients.
It was odd, letting someone take over her kitchen, even if it was temporary. "I can make tea while you cook. I have some freshly baked bread, too, if you'd like some." She moved to this opposite side to pick up her kettle from where it hung over the hearth.
On top of everything else, she was still sternly telling herself do not stare. He was still shirtless. As attractive as he was, Niamh told herself she did have self control, thank you very much, and would not ogle his muscles.
Much.
Only a little.
Just a small peek.
She filled the kettle and hung it back on its hook, then set about starting the hearth's fire. "What sort of tea would you like?"
Truly, she should have, considering how tall his father was. She herself hadn't gotten much taller as an adult - only an inch or two more. Her curves had filled out considerably and her hair was much longer. Crow's feet had begun to form at the corners of her eyes.
It seemed like only yesterday that Sidon had been a child and she herself had been a teenager.
Now, a hundred years later, she stood in front of her childhood friend, feeling a bit awkward. What did someone say after being gone for such a long time? It wasn't as if she had meant to disappear. Still. She didn't even know where to start.
Absentmindedly she reached up to fidget with the small jade hoop that hung from her necklace.

He resisted as long as he could, letting the medicine work, but it was only a minute or two before weapon roughened hands reached for Carys, gently lifting her and cradling her to Bedwyr's chest. Though the babe was still clearly not enjoying the drops, her tongue pushed repeatedly out from between her lips, as if trying to push the liquid out of her mouth, and her little brows were furrowed, but she locked her eyes on Bedwyr's face, and her body was beginning to relax more, the longer she was held.
"Thank you..." the warrior finally said, turning to face Niamh after a moment or two of eye contact with Carys. "I'm sure I seem a fool, worrying so about something so... trivial. This is new for me, as I am sure is obvious. But I'd rather feel foolish than heartbroken, should it have been something worse."
"I don't think worrying about your children is foolish at all."
She smiled warmly at him, getting to her feet as she began to put away her supplies. "If she still feels poorly in a couple of days, bring her back to see me. But I think she'll be all right."
She handed him the small bottle of herbal gripe water. "Keep this, just in case in the future you need it again. It'll keep for a few months. Two drops at a time is enough and no more than once a day."
Wiping her hands on her apron and putting her hands on her hips, she added, "Now. How are you faring? Are you eating well? Sleeping enough?"
"I wonder that too", Merrill said. "There can't be too many ways to make bread, can there?"
Niamh's head dropped onto Merrill's shoulder, and she stiffened a little, though not because she disliked it. She was not used to people being so comfortable around her. Only Mahariel and Tamlen had ever been close enough with her for a friendly touch. To the others, she was the First—and now she was a blood mage.
"I—I am sure they are fine", she said, and suddenly hoped they would be gone a long time. She'd like to stay here for a bit, Niamh's head on her shoulder, even if she didn't dare to move. "Let's give them some more time."
"You're right. I'm sure they're fine. If anything, Hawke will probably have more money than he started with, considering how he haggles..." She giggled and finished off her piece of bread. The rest of the loaf she wrapped back up in its paper for safekeeping.
After a few moments, she lifted her head upright. She tucked the bread loaf into her satchel, but dug around in the bag until she let out a triumphant "ah hah!" and pulled something else out.
It was a delicate bracelet, braided, with a few pretty glass beads. "I found this when shopping. It's too small for my wrist, but I thought it might fit you. Do you want to try it on?"
