Wig styling
I washed and straightened my new girl’s wig last night until it was pin straight, then once it finished drying today I fully curled it with my flat iron, into something more organized than how it came Of course, Uneeda Jennifer served as my mannequin as usual:
I’m actually very pleased with how the curls turned out, especially since I very rarely curl kanekalon so I haven’t had much practice, but it turned out nicely! And here it is, back on the head it belongs to:
It actually looks really, really pretty on her, the shape is exactly what I wanted and it frames her face beautifully, but sadly I might have to get another wig for her lol. It does look beautiful, but this Monique wig was layered in such a way that, even in a slightly straighter form, the short short layers on top tend to stick out in an ugly kind of way and the only plausible way to fix this would be to curl it so tightly that the layers blend together, which isn’t what I want. The wig itself is also pretty thin so it requires some strategic brushing to conceal the wig cap or prevent it from looking stringy. This photo shows what I’m talking about, it just looks really messy and flat:
I also kind of made an oopsy; I curled it to look natural, meaning I curled the hair all in a single direction (which is why it curls away from her face on one side, and toward her face on the other side) and it’s a little more difficult to style the right side because of this, making those little strands even more prominent there. She does, however, look absolutely incredible when I’ve really brushed and shaped her curls:
I just ordered another wig for her in the style “paris’ from Monique; sadly it doesn’t come in this exact shade, but Reddish Blonde is very similar so I’m going to try it out. That wig is super long and blunt cut, meaning I’ll have the freedom to layer it my way and then curl it into exact the shape I want for her. I also tried Mika’s ‘Paris’ wig on her to see how straight hair would look (she makes a decent blonde too):
It looks nice, but it doesn’t compliment her features in the same way as wavy hair. However, this wig comes super long and blunt cut, so I’ll have the freedom to do the layers exactly how I want and then curl it. Idk, I might order a second of her current wig as well to see if I get a better one- Lumi has the exact same wig (but in platinum blonde) which I flat ironed to be pin straight and it’s very thick and luxurious, without all of those annoying little hairs. I really love this style and color for her, so it’s a shame that this wig isn’t up to my standards :(
