"Wh-... Hey. Release me!-"

"Nope. You looked stressed."

"...Ridiculous. I don't get stressed."

"Mm-hm. You're not trying very hard to push me away."

"My intellect is occupied with important matters, you overly-affectionate nuisance!"

"Said important matters is me, right?"

"YOU-!"

Imagine being at your boyfriend's—Subspace's—lab late at night.

All of his "coworkers"—he refuses to call those expendables that—have left, leaving just you and him since you refuse to go until he does. He's spent plenty of nights in his lab, for he would work on his inventions until his body slumped against the lab table from exhaustion. You've found him asleep on that table many times, and you could only hear him say "I'M BETTER THAN EVER!! MY INVENTION IS GOING TO WORK!!" before you decided enough was enough.

So, you spend your time in his lab with him.

At first, he didn't budge. He continued to work as he usually did—even with your presence and you constantly telling him to go to bed. He had formed a hypothesis that if he ignored your instructions enough, you would eventually give up, and he put that hypothesis into multiple tests.

Each time, though, his hypothesis was wrong. You didn't budge, either—you were persistent.

And your persistence led to the nights you had with him.

The lab would be dim aside from the lamp on his desk, and papers and machine parts would be scattered in front of him.

A metal mask would be over his mouth to prevent any gas from affecting you, and instead of Gamma assisting Subspace, the Biograft would be gathering up his medicine.
