So in the beginning, this piece was narrated in parts. Wyatt got Part I and Ben got Part II. I wanted the reader to get to know NJ with a transplant before we went into the mind of a born-and-bred local.

Problem is, my husband (my biggest fan and inspiration) was so invested in this book that I was reading him updates as I wrote them, and he started to get curious.

"Well what's Ben thinking in this scene?"

"Wow what did Wyatt think of that?"

His burning curiosity turned into a companion piece where Ben narrated Part I and Wyatt narrated Part II that was originally only going to be for his benefit. Until tons of new scenes were born, and I started to feel like the original manuscript only held half the story.

Which is how the Frankensteining began. I pieced together both versions of the book with patchwork limbs and organs until some semblance of a humanoid form lumbered out of my psyche and declared: THIS IS THE ONE YOU WILL PUBLISH, MORTAL.

And when the cryptid spoke, I listened.
