Yo I’m gonna be in Scotland for my fall semester what do you think I gotta see?
hmm, depends where you’re going to be based - im guessing glasgow or edinburgh. glasgow is a good summer city, great food and music scenes. edinburgh is a good winter city, pretty and historical and tourist friendly. don’t bother with the other cities (aberdeen, dundee, perth, inverness) unless there’s something you really must see.
some of my personal recommendations would be:
go to oban and do the three isles tour which takes you to mull, staffa and iona. mull isn’t anything special but staffa is cool as hell and iona is honestly a really special place (plus oban is kinda cute i guess)
simply spending the day on the train can be a great way to see some of the best of the countryside without having a car, i particularly like the train that goes from glasgow to inverness via aviemore
the cairn gorms are famous for the autumnal colours at that time of year
skye, especially the quiraing and fairy pools
double decker tour bus rides - cheesy and yes very cold and wet if it’s autumn but genuinely quite interesting
as many glens as you can get your hands on - glens etive, coe, rosa are some of my favourite
as many castles as you can get your hands on - eilean donan, culzean, dunnotar are all popular, but really there’s a castle on every hill and copse in this bloody country so take your pick
our museums and art galleries are f r e e so go wild, i like the kelvingrove museum in glasgow the most

see now i used to do the ol’ scuttle’n’hide when i still believed in shame as a personal concept but now i’m like. i am the master of my own domain, i’m going to stand here in full view of the frosted glass, bumping nelly furtado on spotify (folk lore is the most slept on album of all time, quote me on that), naked from the waist down, im heating up some tomato soup, and this person is going to leave a note if its important and go away. because its the year 2012+5 and if there was anything in the world worth putting pants on at my front door, it would have called me to make an appointment first.
