First, the whole “she’s secretly rich and faking a poor background” thing. From what’s publicly known, she grew up in Missouri with parents who ran a veterinary clinic. That’s likely middle-class or upper-middle-class, not poverty. But she never marketed herself as a “trailer park girl” either, her branding has always been “Midwest Princess.” Having piano lessons or going to music camps as a kid is also extremely normal for musicians. That’s not some scandal.

The criticism that she only developed her queer/drag aesthetic after getting industry support also misunderstands how pop careers work. Most artists refine their visuals, sound, and persona once they start working with producers and labels. That’s literally how the industry functions.

Then there’s the claim that she’s hypocritical because she’s said it’s hard to stay fully informed on global politics while touring. Some people interpret that as laziness, but the alternative is celebrities speaking confidently about complicated geopolitical issues they barely understand. Saying “I’m not an expert” is actually a more honest position than pretending to be one.

The stuff about her uncle being a Republican politician is also a huge stretch. Lots of queer people come from conservative families, myself included. Expecting someone to publicly denounce every relative with bad politics is a standard almost no public figure could meet.

There are also rumors floating around about unpaid services from a nail technician, but those appear to come from a single social media allegation and haven’t been confirmed by any reporting. Until something like that is verified, it’s just an internet rumor.

And the complaints about canceled shows? That’s unfortunate for fans, but it’s also extremely common in touring. It happens to huge artists all the time.

What’s interesting to me is the bigger pattern. When lesbian or queer women artists get big, they often face this weird expectation to be perfect activists, flawless representatives of an entire community, and morally spotless individuals , all while also being criticized if they succeed commercially. Straight pop stars rarely get their entire family tree, childhood finances, and political knowledge interrogated like this.

None of this means someone has to like her music or personality. Disliking an artist on vibes is normal. But a lot of these viral “receipts threads” aren’t really about facts... they’re about building a narrative.

-Female nipples should not be censored

-No one person should be allowed to own more than 2 properties

-No one person should have more than 10 million dollars

-All congress people should have to be paid the minimum wage of their state

-No life terms for anyone, especially judges

-All police officers should have at least an associate's degree in law studies. Preferably a bachelor's.

-Age limits on serving in government

-Everyone should have to re-take their driver's test every 10 years

-All rents in a given city for standard apartments should never exceed 2x the median household income. And yes, when I say no one should own more than 2 properties, this applies to landlords and real estate sharks as well.

-No loan or credit line should have interest that exceeds the original loan amount

-Your local grocery store should not have goods that require international flights, local agriculture and seasonal items should be prioritized whenever possible (because why am I able to get a mango in Rhode Island in the middle of winter?)

-Schools should not be funded on property taxes of their own town. All property tax should go into a big pool and then be distributed equitably throughout the entire state based on the need of a particular district.

-A car should not be subject to sales tax more than once in its lifetime.

-Recycling should be provided to all tenants of every apartment by law

-The stock market should be abolished completely

-Streaming services should not be able to tier subscriptions. Free version has ads, paid version does not. No more plans than that.

-Everyone should be able to cancel any utility, subscription, or account via their online profile without having to contact or speak to a representative.

-Customer service should not be powered by AI.

-Dynamic pricing should be immediately outlawed.

-People should have to take and pass a pet care certification course before being allowed to adopt an animal.

-Bacon packaging needs to be resealable effective immediately.

-Roads must be maintained and repaired at least every 10 years in states that experience snow. They should not be allowed to deteriorate into potholes.

-All sidewalks should be accessible to disabled people and repairs should be made promptly.

-Disabled people should not have a cap on their income or assets to continue receiving benefits.

-Disabled people's spouses or family's incomes and assets should not account for their eligibility for benefits.

-The amount for cash benefits for disabled people should be 3x the median rent of the area in which they reside, minimum.
