Hello!! First ever post on here. I'm gonna try to have what would usually be personal studies be posted on here so I can keep track of my cool "factoids" and stuff.
Today is a study of sleep hours. Why? Well I had a class with my science teacher and she said something about how "Kids your age should be jumping around with 6 hours of sleep. While I feel tired with 8 hours."
My first thought is, "Don't kids need more hours than adults? And don't women need at least 9-10 hours of sleep?" But let's be real that is a hypothesis, and I don't have evidence at hand. So my solution? Go get it!
Hypothesis: That women need 9-10 hours and teens an x amount but more than adults.
𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽:
Hypothesis: That women sleep more than men/more than 7 hours.
Data Collection/Analysis:
Women are 40 percent more likely to have insomnia than men. And twice as much to have restless leg sindrome.
On average, women sleep 11 minutes more than men, yet their sleep is more interrupted and less efficient. Therefore, sleeping but not actually letting their brain rest.
Irregular work schedules can also put strain on family and social life, which can lead to stress and other emotional problems that worsen sleep.
For example, one large study found that female night shift workers have a significantly greater risk of developing breast cancer and cardiovascular disease
^*need to find a source for that information*
In conclusion: Women need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep due to the fluctuations of our hormones and cycles.
Teens actually need 9-10 hours because of the fact that when teens sleep it is not all together. They wake up intermediately throughout their sleep. Being unable to have a deep sleep for 8 hours they have a intermediate one for 10.
However, you may be asking, "Well, my daughter sleeps 8 hours, and she's fine!" Well, actually, she's trying to juggle, school works, social life, and most likely a job too. Meaning that these external aspects are affecting teenagers development.
Considering the school system doesn't help since teenagers naturally get tired at 11pm making it even more difficult to fall asleep before then.
Therefore, the conclusion I have come up with is that teenagers need 9-10 hours of sleep. However, due to external factors they for the most part, do not. Making them be tired, have brain fog, and have worse memory.

i had one of my grad interviews when i was reeeaally not in a good place, like trying not to cry the whole time, and i flipped out on the interviewer a little bit about how i hadn’t gotten replies to my (single, and sent from a non-.edu professional address) emails to professors/administration in reasonable amounts of time or at all
and like, the frustration is legitimate but i soooo regret saying anything to her face because now profs are writing me and apologizing and i feel like a biiiiig asshole, like i don’t even.... want all that strongly to go to this school and now i’m making a big stink in a bunch of people’s lives about it
anyway i’m gonna go answer those emails now, hoo ray
