Scheduling Blog Post 03/05/2017
Are you on Schedule? Yes, I am currently on schedule at this time.
How have you managed your time so well? I have made sure to do things such as research at home, as well as other easier tasks, since it then saves time and gives me more time to work on more important things in college, such as create sprites. I have also made sure that I keep to my gantt chart; before I start anything, I make sure what I’m supposed to be doing correlates with my gantt chart - that way, I can then work on certain things at the right time so that I know I’m on schedule.
I know I am on schedule, and aspire to be throughout the project because I will be able to make sure I complete my project when the deadline is due.

Advanced Maintenance, Planning, Schedulling, Auditing, Benchmarking & Improvement
DESCRIPTION
The maintenance of physical assets can no longer be treated as an ‘engineering problem’. The competitive environment in which business operates requires an approach that integrates the operational objectives of the business and the life-cycle objectives of the physical assets. Leading industrial organizations are evolving away from reactive (“fix-it-when-it-breaks”) management into…

Planning & Scheduling_Week03_Blog02
Before starting the planning document (Week 2), I did some research into project planning, scheduling, entrepreneurship and general organization in order to refresh my memory and get a better idea as to how I should go about things. This is some of what I found:
Luke (2010) says that you can help yourself not to over-plan by timing tasks in advance, so that you have a better idea of how long they are going to take. She also suggests building margins into a schedule so that there is a 'buffer' between each task planned. This is to allow for interruptions and hold-ups that would inevitably come up, as well as give people a chance to mentally task-switch and prepare for the next task. Luke (2010) writes that a task should be completed at least a day before it's really due so that there is time to deal with last minute problems.
Epstein (2014), the founder of an agency: 'Fifteen Media', suggests to: "Embrace mornings, nights or weekends" (Epstein, 2014) - times when people don't usually work - to focus in on something that requires quite a bit of concentration. She also says to "schedule everything in one spot or organizational device" (Epstein, 2014) in order to save time and so that you don't accidentally make plans that conflict with one another.
While making the planning document (Week 2), I had created a list of assets separate to the Gantt chart inside Microsoft Word and researched how to add check boxes. I found a tutorial on YouTube (Worlds Best Integrated Help, 2009), but a tab called 'Developer' was missing in my version of Word so I couldn't follow it. I researched into why the tab would be missing and how to get it to show up (Microsoft, n.d.). It ended up being a lot easier than I originally assumed. I found that there was one disadvantage with the check boxes. This being that you have to enable 'Protect Document' in order for the check boxes to work, which limited some of the editing features not only in the pages chosen, but in some of the other pages that weren't. (E.g.: not being able to edit headers).
After asking for feedback on my planning document (Week 3), it was brought to my attention that having check boxes for modelling, texturing, and completion of the assets was too vague and could even be inconvenient (E.g.: Having to go back and uncheck check boxes if changes needed to be made at certain stages before approval).
I will be taking away the check boxes and replacing them with a colour code system where group members can simply fill in a box a certain colour to indicate where they are with each asset. (White being 'haven't started', yellow being 'started/in progress', and 'green' being 'finalized and approved'). This system is more practical. It also means that there's no need to use 'Protect Document' anymore. I will be adding due dates for specific assets - as advised - so that members don't spend too much time adding details to any one asset. (Especially the assets that aren't as important).
