SXSW IS FOR FAKES...HERE'S PROOF!
About the only party bigger than SXSW is Coachella, and guess what? They both suck.
Hailing from Texas it is easy to see how the once innovative and necessary music festival has turned into nothing but a media blitz and an excuse for folks to party like it is Saint Patrick's Day gone wild. SXSW has long become too big for its britches, and each year suffers a little bit more under the burden of its own weight, this year is no different. The music is secondary, the glad-handing and partying is what counts during festival time.
JImmy Kimmel sent a camera crew to Austin to talk to "fans" on the street about the hippest bands appearing at the annual festival. The only problem is, these bands are all made up! There is no DJ Costco or DJ Cornmeal from Canada. There is no Willie Nelson Mandela, none of the bands mentioned exist but yet avid partiers and ever present scenesters are quick to brag about how great these non-existing artists are.
Yes! People are so worried about discovering the next hot band to tweet/blog about that they will say "yes" to anything-just as the video below proves.
Watch and cringe.
