Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, but moving to a new home is a big step, and all three boys seem to really appreciate the supportive presence of Ithumba Head Keeper Benjamin as they become acclimated to life in Tsavo. At the Nursery, they ran the show, but now they seem rather star struck by older orphans like Lemoyian and Tusuja — and it’s easy to understand why, as they’re putting on an impressive display of their size and strength! In typical Sattao style, he immediately settled into his new big boy room, but the transition wasn’t so seamless for the other orphans who moved: Musiara tried to sneak back to his old stable, while Kiasa kept everyone up half the night with her very vocal protests about the new sleeping arrangements! She is currently at the Ithumba Reintegration Unit in Tsavo East NP, Kenya. 🐘 To the left of Malkia is Sattao who is a two year old male. Reason for being orphaned is suspected poaching. Sattao is still at the Nairobi Nursery. 🐘 Last but not least on the right is Jotto. This orphan was trapped in a well in Samburu. Jotto is a 3 year old male and resides at Ithumba Reintegration Unit in Tsavo East NP. 🐘 You can adopt one or all three of these magnificent elephants. The little bulls are great friends, enjoying the attention and coddling that comes with being some of the youngest members of our Nursery herd. The only complicating factor in their friendship is Mbegu: Both are particularly smitten with the mini matriarch, and while easygoing Sattao is happy to share her attentions, Musiara gets very jealous and will chase away anyone (usually Sattao) that he thinks is getting too much of Mbegu’s time! • Sattao is this week’s #DSWTFosterFriday. He was just three months old (and alone, emaciated, and covered in bite marks) when we rescued him from Tsavo East. Now 15 months old, he is the picture of health and happiness at the Nursery.
