Jacob believes in God in the traditional Christian way, yes. But he also believes that God has abandoned him so he doesn’t give a shit about God (or so he pretends). That humans have weak minds and seek guidance and comfort in a creature bigger than them. Believing in a God makes them feel better about life, it sets a system of value that would otherwise not be there. The only way to make people behave good is to make them fear punishment and hope for an afterlife. Milton is rather pragmatic in this regard. He believes the invention of God was a necessity to build a society, to establish morals,to make people function in the omnipresence of death and suffering. Their minds are too weak to live on without foolish hopes. 

Poor bb didn’t have any chance to figure his sexuality out. He’s curious about boobs and girls, but being compelled by sex in general and mostly by himself, being as awkward and socially clumsy as he can be at times, he never made a move towards a girl.
