Word Count:Â 1080
âY/N⌠what in Godâs name is that?â
Oh⌠oh shit. Adam was home early. He wasnât supposed to get there until eight⌠what the hell, Sarif!? Throwing you under the bus like that! You knew you shouldnât have called him and asked him about possible augmentations for⌠non-human creatures. You shouldâve know that he would talk to Adam.
      âY/N, seriously. What is that?â
You shrugged your shoulders, adjusting a blanket so that it would cover the animalâs head. âJust a couple blankets,â you answered, âWhy are you home so early? You usually donât get off until eight, and itâs only like⌠four-thirty. Three and a half hours early? Thatâs crazy. I wish my boss would do that sometimes, thatâd be pretty neat. I mean, our boss, I guess. The guy we work for. Good old Sarif-the-Sherriff, man, heâs a riot. Remember that time we had a celebratory party and he got us all pizza and drinks and he ran into his own glass door? Wait⌠or was it me that ran into the door? It gets fuzzy sometimes, you know. Iâm such a lightweight, I donât even get the chance to drink a single glass of â well â anything, before Iâm even tipsy. Speaking of alcohol, thereâs some in the kitchen, like usual. You want some? Iâll just take these blankets in there and bring us some. Iâm sure youâve had a day at work and could really use a break, ya know? Yeah, of course youâd know, it was your damn work day. Hah. Wow. Anyway, Iâll be right-â
Dammit, You thought, I rambled again. Heâs gonna know what Iâm doing. Shit. Why canât I just keep my mouth shut for once?
Just as you turned and started toward the kitchen, you ran into what felt like a brick wall. You heard a quiet yelp of surprise as you fell to the ground. As soon as your grip lessened, the creature wrapped in the blankets managed to jump free and landed â rather clumsily â onto its four â no, no, three â feet. Its fourâŚfurryâŚfeet. Hesitantly, you looked up to see the brick wall. Adam. You grinned sheepishly under his accusing gaze, and swept the small animal back up into your arms.
âUh⌠would you believe me if I told you that itâs a stuffed animal?â
Adam rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, giving you the certified Jensen-look-of-Disapprovalâ˘. His lips were drawn in a thin line, and he looked far from happy with you. Seriously. His silence even proved it. Adam was fairly pissed at the moment.
After a few moments of awkward silence, you bit your bottom lip and glanced up at Adam. You cleared your throat, and mentally prepared yourself for the shit-storm that was about to explode in your shared apartment.
âSoooooâŚâ You gulped, slowly standing up. You covered the dog back up again, and held it with one arm. You held your other hand up in the air defensively. âI can totally explain, Adam.â
âWhere did it come from, Y/N?â
You span around and walked back toward the couch before plopping down on it. You sighed and hugged the puppy to your chest. âOh, Adam, it was so sad! I came from the grocery store, right? And I heard something behind me. Detroit is honestly going to shit, man. I seriously thought it was a mugger or a murderer or something, you know? So I panicked; turned around and swung my shopping bag at the bastard. Well, what would have been the bastard. He wasnât there! So at first I thought that he had managed to hide, or that maybe he had a cloaking augmentation or something. I ran back here and closed and locked the door as soon as I was outside. But⌠a couple minutes later, I heard something scratching at the door. And then I heard yelping and whining. I opened the door, and I found this little guy outside. Then I remembered a track of paw prints around where I thought I was being attacked, and it clicked. Bucky here had followed me home from there! And then I noticed that he was injured and hungry and Adam. He only has three legs! It made me so sad, and I just know that if I have to take him back out there, heâll die. Heâll either freeze to death in the winter weather, or heâll starve. Or, maybe worse, heâll be hit by a car because he wasnât fast enough or heâll be eaten by some wild animal. I couldnât just let that happen, Adam!â
Adam quietly shooshed you, gesturing for you to lower your volume. You blushed, having not realized that you had grown fairly loud during your story, especially toward the end. He groaned, and placed his head in his hands. âAnd what are you planning on doing with the puppyâŚ?â
âI want to keep him! Please, Adam? I know you lost your dog not too long ago⌠and I know that this one may not be able to fill in that gap but⌠I mean⌠I feel like itâd be good for you.â
      âY/N-â
âI mean, you already have things in common! Like⌠like⌠heâs missing a leg! I was hoping that I could find somewhere that makes augmentations for animals- Prosthetics at least! I just- Please, Adam!? Please?â You gave him your best puppy dog eyes, and held the dog up in front of his face.
Adam sighed, and sat on the couch beside you. âI donât know, Y/N. A puppy is a lot of work, and weâre rarely homeâŚâ
Suddenly the puppy barked and started struggling to escape your arms in an attempt to run toward Adam. You smirked, and let the dog free. The puppy hobbled toward Adam, its tail wagging wildly behind it. It barked, and the leapt into Adamâs lap. Before he could react, the puppy had crawled up Adamâs arms and began viciously licking his face. Adan let out a gasp of surprise, and then struggled to get the puppy off of him.
âY/N, get it off of me! If I move my arms, itâll fall in the floor.â
You shook your head defiantly, and pulled your legs onto the couch. âLook, Adam,â you cooed, âLook! He already loves you! Can we keep him? Please?â
Adam groaned, and barely managed to move his head in time to keep the puppy from licking his mouth. âUgh, fine, fine! Get it off of me though!â
