when I first watched and heard cavalliera rusticana I was not quite into it but something about being slightly feverish and a bit isolated made me really invested in this opera. I am in no way dissing cavalliera rusticana, there's just something about sad operas with distressed female characters that especially speak to me when I lie in bed with a fever. but whatever case it might be, I am now equally invested into cavalliera rusticana as I am in pagliacci. I need to know the lore! I will read the short story it is inspired by eventually and I must see it performed again! also this duet is now permanently stuck in my head.
