In my au, I really leaned into how their relationship was built off of everyone’s perfect romance dynamic, the beautiful lady singer and the young gifted musician. And while they were somewhat in love with each other it wasn’t as much as they were in love with that idea of them together, especially for Susie. (Sammy was dealing with internal homophobia). Although both of them turned out to be different people to what each other and themselves thought they were. Sadly, they never got to find that out for themselves, instead they got driven mad by the ink where their ‘worst’ traits were only perpetuated, pushing them further than what even their own body’s could take. But the ink is fed on sorrow, so they got at least a bit of power in the cycle.
