Parallel Music Messages from The Bentley
I have written about the word ineffable meaning something which is forbidden to say or impossible to say, but there are plenty of ways to communicate concepts without speaking.
Why not say it with a song? (It’s not as if the show hasn’t been waving a record in our face the whole time.)
Whatever “it” is, the Bentley is apparently sentient in some way, just like the plants, and can both move itself and play music other than Queen when told to.
It’s got opinions, though. When strictly told to play classical music which stays classical, it plays Danse Macabre at Aziraphale. If nothing else, this is a reminder of Crowley. The song is a lively piece about the Devil giving all the dead a chance to rise up (nice foreshadowing of the second coming really) and dance.
Interesting choice for many reasons, including what we know now about Crowley having the power to resurrect not only doves but a shopkeeper who died at the eldritch Ball / Battle.
It’s easy to see this as a “hurry up” message, tempus fugit and other points have been made by by people who know more than I do. However—
Whatever it is, it’s communication without words.
If Aziraphale was chided by the Bentley, the message to Crowley was unspeakably devastating or possibly a bittersweet comfort. There are too many takes on that Tori Amos reprise for me to address.
