“My family was actually really close, growing up. My mom was worried about not only the blended family thing, but also the being married to a woman thing, but my sister and I were friends, like, instantly, and I love my mama, so. It all worked out.”

What does your name mean?

“Well, according to behindthename.com, Matilda means strength in battle. Which is incredibly accurate because I don’t know this, but I am fierce in battle.”

What is your favorite childhood memory?

“Honestly, that’s... fuck, that’s a hard one because growing up with my family was amazing. But I guess if you held a gun to my head and made me pick a favorite it’d be the first Halloween after Sean and Zay joined the family. They had no idea how intense our dads were at holidays and were not prepared for the family costume that year... which was the Wizard of Oz themed. The looks on their faces when those scarecrow and tin man costumes came out... priceless. We ate so much candy that night and watched The Lost Boys. Still one of my favorite movies. I know it sounds lame but whenever we were all together it was a good time. Still is.”

Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances?

“Go in or near the ocean and anything sexual involving feet. Creeps me the fuck out.”

Where was the most embarrassing place you’ve farted?

Laughing at the memory as it came to her, Tilly answered, “During a very poignant pause in Les Mis at the Apollo Victoria Theater in London. It would have been fine but then I couldn’t help but to start laughing... I’d had a few too many glasses of wine. I’m pretty sure the entire theater turned and looked at me. I had to get up and walk out. I only figured out what happened after I left when the movie came out... oops?”

8. Which of your parents or guardians are you more like?

❝ My father. My mother was always so patient and so kind hearted. I love my father, but I think we could’ve learned a little something about letting go of grudges and to let go of our need to always be right, but — what can you do? ❞

“Those mall Santa Claus, or the ones on the street corner taking donations, are creepy. A solid majority of them reek of alcohol. I don’t know why people flock to them come the winter holidays, get in line for their kid to sit in a stranger’s lap. Who started all that nonsense?”
