​Why and how should you Re-Key your locks?

Because you want all locks to work with one key.

To do this all your locks need to be made by the same brand and they need to use same keyway.

Just because brand is the same it does not mean it can be done.

For example: Kwikset Smart Key ( smart key does not use pins) is not the same as Kwikset Titan

Brand is the same - Kwikset - but two different systems - two different keyways

​If brand of the lock and keyway are the same, than it can be done, but there are also other things to consider.

Like, do you only want to rekey your locks to work with one key or you also want to make those locks more secure by using security pins. (to be more lock pick resistant)

Also using security pins have other options like how many - which ones - not every security pin works the same way.

Serrated pins, Mushroom pins, T pins, Spool pins… All of them are very good, but which one to choose?

​You can even make your lock cylinder serrated, for even more protection, this can be done for bottom and top pins (this system works together with security pins)
