Today marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year and the start of summer. Observed around the world for centuries in celebrations such as the Midsummer festivals of Europe and the Latin Jāņi festival, sailors now have their very own way to celebrate.
In 2001, John Arndt started the Summer Sailstice to "bring sailors all over the globe together on the longest sailing day of the year to celebrate why we all love to get out on the water." More than 1,600 sailors from all over the world get out on the water to celebrate their love of sailing.
This year's sailstice is on Saturday June 23rd, and here at Sail Montauk we'll be on the water all day, sails up.
Hope to see you out there!
